Anyone file their taxes yet?

My best friend is also an accountant, and does my taxes every year.
This year she said we are waiting until after Feb 15 because of some type of tax cut being debated in Congress with Prez-elect Obama that would be retroactive for last year.
I don't know if that is still on the table, but I am in no hurry at this point. I would love to have it, obviously, because we always get a rather large refund, but I can wait.
And please don't tell me we are having too much withheld - I will give you my husband's cell number and you can try to convince him.
(This is how we get to Disney every spring, so I have stopped complaining!)

We are getting back a sizable figure, ok NOT really huge but enough to pay off WDW and some bills, and do some shopping etc. So I am hoping that it does get Direct Deposited by the 30th, that would be soo sweet!:cool1:

I have a friend who is a tax accountant and she also suggested waiting, because of laws that could be changing and credits that could be added.

Even if I had all the info (which we don't), we pay so I won't be mailing them until April 15 via snail mail. I will send them to my acct as soon as I get it all, though, so I know how bad the sting is this year.

Hmm, I just signed on and the child tax credit was done....yay. My adoption tax credit form is still pending though, plus we'll be waiting on that 1099R, so it'll be mid February before we get it filed.

Didn't file yet, but mine are done. I have no W-2's on hand yet. So, I will not file until I'm positive. Though in the past it's always been correct. (I do them from our last paystub of the year).

We are getting back just under $2200 but thats federal and state combined. I'm putting 1/3 in savings, 1/3 will be used to purchase a new TV. Our's is on it's way out, we don't need anything fancy. The other 1/3 will be used to pay for 1/2 I need for a trip in the late spring.

We are almost there. All I need is my W-2 and a 1099 and we are good to go. We usually have to wait on DH unemployment stuff (he gets laid off every winter) but low and behold it came today. Two items down, two to go!!

If new deductions come into effect after you file, you can always to an amended return. Yes, it's a little more work, but it can be done to get back any extra money you are due (or if you have to pay).

We're waiting on a 1099R too, but the company sent us a notice saying that the forms they send out don't have to be sent out till Feb 17th or something like that....so we may be waiting for a while. We're also waiting on the child tax credit and adoption tax credit forms to be available....wonder why the child tax credit form on my turbo tax isn't showing available yet? Anyone else?

I am so impatient that I made my DH call State Farm and ask when they were mailing our 1099r. They said they were currently processing them all and mailing them as they go! So I hope that means it will be here soon! Knowing my luck they will go alphabetical and we are a W so we will be in the last batch! :rolleyes2 I have never heard that about Feb; I thought it was postmarked by Jan 31?:crazy2:

I'm pretty sure I've read that all forms relating to taxes (W-2, 1099, interest statements, etc) must be postmarked by the end of the month.

We filed ours this past Monday, but it said that they do not open until Jan. 16. For some reason it said that when we file that we will be getting extra back since something changed in our situation since last year. We have no idea what it is, but it said it was for a little over $300. I think it will be separate from the tax refund on 1/30 since it was not added in. Guess we have to wait and see what happens.

I am all ready to file - just need DH's military W2 - hoping it comes before he leaves for Iraq.....

That sounds like the amount for a child dependent on the rebates that were sent out.

wow i would love to do our taxes . Hubbie soesnt usually get his T4's till end of jan or sometime in Feb. Last year it was end of Feb and it took about 6 weeks to get the refund.

Can't you go onto DFAS mypay and print it? I printed DH's W2 from MyPay last week for his military W2. I have always printed it, and never gotten a copy in the mail.

Yep, went in the 15th to file and they put it through on the 16th. Should be getting my refund by the end of the month.

did mine today. used direct deposit for the first time using Turbo Tax. I usually use H and R Block but I didn't want to pay $500 bucks when I could do it myself for free. I used the tax calculator on H and R Block's website and knew what I was going to get. When I finished Turbo it was 40 less than what the calculator said. Only bad thing is I have to pay $216 to the state of Ga :sad1:. I am going to pay off my trip to Disney :cheer2:

I just filed yesterday online. My refund is expected on the 30th. So excited to be paying off some CC bills!! :cool1:

I did mine too! I used TT and waiting for the IRS to accept the returns. It seems that you had them accept your quickly.
It take 48hrs. to get them accepted. I am chopping at the bit!
I can't wait for January 30th that when I will get my tax return direct deposited. :cool1:

I was told that is the law. All information pertaining to your taxes must be postmarked no later than January 30th.

Woo Hoo!
I sent mine on the 15th at night and now I am just waiting for a confirmation from the IRS that everything is all set!
I hope that I hear something today.

You know what! I just logged in and mine hasn't been accepted by the IRS yet either, oops!! Hopefully today! I filed on Friday. I know it says it must be accepted by the 22nd for the 30th deposit date, so I think we're good.

Nope, not necessarily so. Here is the wording on the notice we got from our retirement account regarding the 1099.

"IRS Forms 1099 mailing deadline change. The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 changed the deadline for when financial institutions are required to mail certain Forms 1099 from January 31 to February 17."

It goes on to say that when practicable they will mail forms 1099 by January 31 to certain accounts but some will not go out until later. It also has a note saying that the 1099R should be on time....so here's hoping :) Still, we don't plan on hitting that 'submit' button until the middle of February just in case certain forms show up or change.
