using DVC pts for a Disney Cruise? How to calculate the number of pts needed. Example 1bdr Deluxe stateroom w/verandah 11/12 - 11/16. Appreciate any help you can give.

The points vary by itinerary, cabin, number of adults & children as well as by date. The charts for the various cruise options are on the members' website and in the DVC Planner. They can and have changed every year (the points for cruising increase have increased every year - with very few exceptions).

If you are not a member, then you don't have access to the charts for anything except the DVC resorts - links for those are posted at the top of the page. If you post more specific details about the cruise, someone can look up the actual points required for your situation.

Assuming your example is for the 4 night Bahamas cruise on the Wonder departing 11/12/06, there are four cabin categories that have verandahs. (None on the chart say 1 bedroom so I don't know which one you specifically mean). The points required for that range from 171 to 220 per person. That amount is for the first two people in the cabin. (At least one person per cabin must be paying with points to book this way. You can pay cash for the rest, but the cash prices iare those negotiated by DVC and may be more or less than DCL or a TA is currently charging). Additional passengers in the same cabin range from 18 to 91 each, depending on the age. 18 points is for those 2 and under and the 91 is for anyone 13 or older.

Best wishes -

If you are not a member, renting points to cruise will not save you any money.

If you are currently a member, you should do with what you want with your points. Some people prefer to rent the points they would have used and pocket some "profit." Some use their points to cruise. Some pay cash and go to Disney anyway.

If you are looking to become a member and basing this on the availability of cruising, you should know cruising is not the "best use" of points. Often it isn't a break even proposition. While points for a DVC vacation are stable from year to year (i.e. the same week in the same unit will (barring some technicalities - calandar switches, the rare points reallocation) cost the same number of points). Points to cruise DCL will go up from year to year. Crusing on points is a nice flexible option for DVC members - but if its a major portion of how you plan to use points, you won't be happy.

using points to go on dcl are pretty resonable
example7 night cruise to the eastern caribean value season category 9, 149 points per person= 298 points the price i got from disney 3,132 dollars=
10.51 dollars a point pretty good if u ask me
same cruise category 8, 176 points per person=352 points per a couple
the price 3,332 = 9.46 a point

another example 7 night western cruise peak season category 9, 496 points per couple i got 2 prices per differnt times one price 3,954 = 7.97 per point
another price 4,434= 8.93 per point not too bad if you ask me i havent figure it up per differnt categories some might be higher dollar per point some might be lower.
the points could go up in the future they are not set like the dvc resorts but the price of the cruise is only to go up
sorry i forgot to add teh 75 dollars fee.

Try getting a quote from an agency other than Disney. Often prices can be much cheaper. This would give you another comparison. I've found that cruising on points is generally wasteful as cash prices can be much cheaper.

I agree mickeysgal. Our Christmas cruise this Dec (4 night) cost $1850 through a travel agent. It would have cost 296 points plus the $75 fee.

Plus there are more negatives to using points besides just the $$$ conversions.
