Anyone familiar with the guitar? Wolf Marshall Method?

My son has been wanting to learn the guitar for over a year now, so we got him a guitar and signed him up for lessons. He has not had a lesson yet, but seems to be picking up the whole "play by ear" thing pretty quickly.

He has his first lesson on Monday, and the teacher uses the Wolf Marshall Method of teaching.

Anyone familiar with that style of teaching?

I looked it up on Google, out of curiosity, since I'm not familiar with it but it does sound like a different approach than what I was taught years ago.

It seems like there's much more emphasis on learning chords and string manipulation that I barely scratched the surface of even after a few years of lessons. Instead, I learned note by note before progressing to basic chords. Beyond that, though, I don't know since I quit lessons...

I guess the idea is to get more encouraging results sooner? Strumming the same note 20 times in a row for familiarization's sake is so boring compared to being able to play an actual song. Had I had that kind of gratification, I may have stuck with it longer.

He is already reading notes by himself somewhat. And can play very basic riffs by sound.

I am glad to hear that it teaches quickly! He is so into learning, that it will really encourage him to play and practice if he can learn a song in a few lessons.

I had my choice of 2 teachers. They wouldn't recommend one over another, but I was told that the teacher we chose was more into the alternative music my son listens to.
