Anyone familiar with a "CHA" error with a memory card?

I recently bought a 4gb memory card for my D50. I saw a post on the Dis about it; it is a Dane-elec, and I got it for 20 bucks through buy.com.

I decided to try it out today since we are leaving next Friday, and I am glad I did, because I get a "CHA" error that pops up when I put the card in- has anyone had this happen? Is it just a bum card (no wonder it was cheap! ), or something else?

It sounds to me like the camera is not recognizing the card. I have a D50 and in the manual it says they have only test compatibility with Sandisk, Toshiba and Panasonic cards and do not guarantee the camera working with any other cards.

You might see if the camera will format the card or if you can format it with a card reader attached to your computer. If your computer can read card but the camera doesn't then its probably an incompatibility issue.

a quick google of the error indicates a communication error between camera and card..

the suggested fix is to format the card via pc formatting to fat, then inserting in camera and formatting with camera..

Thanks you guys for the suggestions; I tried formatting in the camera, but that didn't work. I will have to try it on the computer, but I can't seem to find my card reader at the moment.

I did see in my Staples ad today that they have a 2gb sandisk on sale this week for $19.98, which seems pretty good too. I already have one of these, and have had no problems with that one.

This is my first trip to the world with a d-slr, and I want to make sure I have plenty of card space!
