Anyone experience any GI issues after dining at Disney?

So far we have been lucky - no problems with any of the food in Disneyworld! We've got our fingers crossed for our upcoming trip in December. The only place I know for sure we wont try is Tepenyaki. (After reading Zzub's trip report)

I was there in April, had dinner at California Grill and really overate. The food was so good that I couldn't help it. All that heavy cream and potatoes and beef didn't hit my system well and at about 3am that night I was dying from lower GI issues. It wasn't the restaurant but the overeating that did me in.

I should have known better though, I barely eat red meat at home and the steak at CG was huge!! Ate it all too, seems that I have a sensitivity to red meat, it's happened at home a few times too.

We ate at 1900 Park Fare two of the four years since we have gone to Disney. Both times I felt so sick to my stomach afterwards, the naseua was awful, the worst I have ever had even being pregnant twice! Someone later told me it was probably from MSG though, and I am not used to that since I only eat organic and natural foods at home. All I know is I don't want to ever go back, even though my sister and oldest son loves it!

May 2006 my mom and I ate lunch at Flame Tree BBQ. I had the fruit plate, but she got a pork BBQ sandwich. A couple of hours later we had to leave the park. She spent the rest of that day, all night, and most of the next day vomiting in the room. She's a very brittle diabetic, so must eat regularly. However she went over 24 hours without being able to keep anything down (even dry crackers). I tried to get her to go to the ER, but she refused. To this day, if I even mention Flame Tree BBQ she turns green.

I however, love it and eat there almost every trip.

Bomas made both my wife and I sick to our stomachs...I will never return!

During our 2005 trip my DS got sick after H & V. We really try to avoid buffets. There is just such a high chance of contamination - luke-warm food, sick people coughing or breathing on food, kids touching or tasting and then putting back. I just can't stomach it. Once, at TE, I saw a 7 or 8 year old roll all of the apples around on the floor as his mother watched and then instructed him to put them back. Yuck!

I got sick after eating at Hollywood and Vine as well. I vomited all night and was weak for the last three days of my trip. (OT Then several days after I arrived home I got the chicken pox. Based on chicken pox incubation duration, I picked it up at Disney.) I avoid buffets like the plague now. I saw a woman change a diaper outside of Chef Mickey's. She left it on a bench and then proceeded into the restaurant without washing her hands! And you wonder why people pick up stomach bugs??? Sheesh.

For anyone worried about becoming ill at Disney it is always wise to bring these GI medications:

Pepto Bismol (or other indigestion aids such as Rolaids, Tums, Maalox)

Dramamine or Gravol. (to quell nausea)

The combination of those two types of medication usually soothes a sore tummy.

I also carry Zantac or Pepic AC tablets for acid reduction. Sometimes I take a precautionary dose if I know I am going to eat a rich meal. It truly works wonders.

Trust me, you can't go wrong bringing this stuff!!!:thumbsup2

We sometimes get "vacation belly" whether we're at Disney or elsewhere. The temptation to try all those rich goodies overcomes our good sense. We chow down like we'll never see another french fry in our lives. At home I would never eat chocolate pastries for breakfast, a burger and fries for lunch, a Mickey Bar in the afternoon and finish the day off with a rich, rich French dinner. I don't know why I think I can get away with it at Disney. Somehow I just think I'm made of iron there. Same thing with the kids. At home I ran after them with carrots and unsweetened applesauce. At Disney it was "Sure, have cheesecake and a frozen coke for breakfast! We're on vacation!"

My worst upset came after a big dinner at Chefs de France. We were in a pop-up (no bathroom) at Ft. Wilderness. By 2:00 am I gave up on the bathhouse and just threw up in plastic grocery bags. Fish and some sort of cream sauce, I believe. Nice surprise for the garbage pick up people!

No but stay away from "Cafe Azalea" at Orlando International. Dh & I got sick off of bagels & scary cream cheese:scared1: . Can't blame Disney at all for that one.
