Anyone excited about the DVC resort at Polynesian?

I am very excited about DVC at the Poly! :yay::yay: I love my AKV and WL, but if I want to be on the monorail, then the Poly is my top choice. Not sure I will be in a position to buy in though. We will have to see where the price point is when the time comes. I may end up adding on resale points to our current resorts and hoping to get in at the 7 month mark. :dance3:

I am interested, not excited to see how it looks when finished. I am not interested in staying there. The parking situation will move past BWV as having the worst parking situation.

It is horrible now, will only get worse.

If they really do forego one bedrooms, I'm not interested.

I looked at all the info provided and see no reason to think they will only have studios. I also suspect, as in AKV, they will build the new buildings as phase 2 after securing a DVC holding in the existing structures and the bungalows.

I think since DVC announced the resort, discussing it should be on the DVC boards. If they didn't announce it officially, then it would be rumors and news. No sense splitting up discussing it. I posted the dvcnews link to show where I heard about the studios.

Thanks for the info.

Although this really doesn't matter-- my question on moving the thread was that it was moved from DVC resorts to DVC misc. To me that makes no sense. If it needed to be moved, my comment was that the only reasonable place other than DVC resorts would be rumors and news, since the announcement is news and the room categories is rumor. but it really doesn't matter. I was just curious why it was moved.

We would love to stay there at some point, but we definitely won't buy in. We've just bought in at VGF, so we already own at our favorite monorail resort. I'm mostly excited about because I know several people who love it, so I'm excited for them.

Oh, and it's hard enough convincing my kids to stay anywhere but AKV!

Would love to buy there but just put DS18 in college at 43k so won't be buying DVC, or food, for a few years

Not really unless they add club level which I doubt since gf didn't get it. We love disney world and own dvc. We won't buy anymore points though. I don't mind dvc being built at a resort but it's not how we usually vacation. My grandparents bought in in 1992 (I believe) and the again a few more times. They gifted us points and we get creative with them to use but buy them? No thanks.

Haha! We just started the private school process for kindergarten and at over 20k for high school (luckily we have a few years ) food may be coming off the budget at our house as well ;)

Nope, we may stay there but not buy. With 4 paid off contracts at 3 resorts bought when prices weren't crazy, we're happy with what we have.

I'm excited and cannot wait for more information on the construction. The Poly has always been my "wow" resort and I'm hoping to add on as soon as sales begin :)

Before DVC, we always stayed at the polynesia. It is exotic and tranquil. It was and is still now our favorite disney resort. In fact, we were at the Poly last April for dinner where we asked the DVC sales person if they would have DVC at the poly. He said absolutely never. LOL. We now stay at BCV for DVC. Depending on the timing of the poly sales, their cost, and what's left over from college funding, we may go for enough points to get a studio - maybe every other year. By that time, we will not have any kids at home. Of course, the now grown kids are talking about us giving them the BCV points to use for vacations for the cost of the yearly condo fee. It all depends on timing, cost, and avaliable funds.

I know this sounds a bit cynical but I grow less less excited about more DVC resorts at the World. I would rather see that money invested in the parks or a resort at another location akin to Hilton Head or Hawaii.

It really isn't investment money like in the parks. They build it, sell the points, make a profit. This location will make the most profit the fastest. Hilton Head was a slow sell, not sure how fast Hawaii is selling.

I can't help but feel that the offsite DVC's are really just going to increase the load on the onsite locations. Does anyone still go to hilton head and vero beach? and how many aulani owners spend their points mostly in WDW as compared to the number of on site owners who will use theirs in Aulani? I would like to see a poll.

If the number of points needed per night is as high as many of the newest resort, this will be a very rare destination for me. Though I'd like to try it once.

With AKV available direct, I don't think many people bought Aulani to stay at WDW. The bigger strain on the system is people who bought a WDW resort but not the one they wanted to stay at.

Very true. I usually get a 1 bedroom even when staying with 1 or 2 friends. With the higher points, I usually can't afford more than a studio at the newer resorts. When I originally bought 250 points, I planned 5 or 6 nights in a 1 bedroom twice a year at OKW or BWV. With the newer resorts, I could only go once a year for 5 or 6 nights in a 1 bedroom. I just got a studio at VGF for May, would have loved a 1 bedroom but I can't if I want to do a fall trip. It's disappointing, I always dreamed of a GF DVC but at these prices and point levels, it's just not realistic.

I like that it will give us more options as members, and having another resort on the monorail line is good for all.

However, I doubt if we would add-on at that resort. We own at SSR, and I don't know if we have any plans to ever add-on, but if we did, my mindset would be to get a small contract (25-50) with the same use year at our current resort. That could change, but I wont put much effort into thinking about it unless we decide to add.

We are at a crossroads with our membership (not in a bad way, as we love DVC). We have always taken our DD9 out of school and taken our trips during off peak times. That may not be possible much longer, so we have to see how our vacation patterns change.

I do love the area and theme of the Poly, and I think it is a great addition to the DVC resorts. We got to see the VGF last week, we went to the open house on Tuesday prior to them opening. Beautiful resort. But for me - although I love staying at different locations, we don't have a huge DVC contract, so if I get more value out of staying at AKV, OKW and SSR, so be it.

Hilton Head and Vero have been part of the program for over 15 years now. There was a time when the only three resorts were OKW, HHI and Vero.

The next 7 resorts constructed were all at theme park destinations. So the percentage of all DVC rooms represented by Vero and HHI has been on the decline for more than a decade. A steep decline.

Vero and HHI are also very small resorts--100 villas at Hilton head and 170 at Vero. Combined they are smaller than Bay Lake...about 1/2 the size of Animal Kingdom Villas...about 1/3 the size of Saratoga.

Aulani is a large resort but it will probably take 10 years to add all of its villas to the DVC program. And Hawaii is a very popular vacation destination. In the years since it opened, there have been frequent reports of difficulty booking Aulani at 7 months.

It's important to remember is that not all members are focused on the theme parks. We have been owners for over 10 years now and have found our habits changing over time. Over the first 9 years we used points exclusively for the WDW and DL locations. But earlier this year we stayed at Hilton Head for the first time. We now have a stay at Vero booked and tentative plans to visit Aulani in 2015.

The program's inventory is still HEAVILY weighted toward the theme park destinations, and it seems clear that focus will continue.

While we would love to try them, these newer resorts are just too point intensive for us (unless we were to slip down for a long weekend in "choice" season). They have really priced us out of being able to stay at them when we normally travel (summer or spring break). After studying the points for the VGF I can't figure out if we would ever be able to spend more than a couple of week day nights there without blowing up our plans for the whole year. I am assuming the Poly DVC will be the same absurd amount. We could never afford a direct add-on now either. I don't know how people are affording to buy in direct these days.:faint:
