I have one that really could use a washing, but the tag says spot clean only and doing that really won't get out all the dirt, cat hair and such in the bottom of the bag. I tried turning it inside out and brushing it all off but it really doesn't get it totally cleaned out.

Has anyone tried actually washing one in the washer or soaking in in water to get it cleaned?

I've washed them without any problem (gentle cycle, cold water). I wouldn't suggest drying it in the dryer, though.

That said, I don't advise using bleach. We had one bag that was moldy, or something, and I couldn't get it clean, so I bleached it in that spot, and it looked funky after that.

I washed a canvas beach bag (not LL Bean). It lost the starchiness, so now it's a pretty collapsed bag. But I did treat the stains with Shout, and they came out.

I just washed mine yesterday after a seagull pooped on it! I washed it in warm & then set out to dry. It was fine. I usually wash it 2-3x a year they can get pretty scuzzy.

I washed mine in the machine on delicate with Woolite. I hung it up to dry. It held up it's shape and looked brand new.

I have washed most of ours at least a dozen times......one large one is 20 years old...They will last forever even if they get a little yucky once in a while...I used the big one to go to the beach and loaded up all our stuff in one bag...always had food or drinks leak out of their containers so washing them in the machine was a necessity........

Is it a Boat and Tote (the white with blue, red, green, etc handles?) I have washed them before, but the handle color did bleed a bit into the white. Of course red dye notorious for that anyway.

Still looked better than it had before the wash!

that has been my experience as well. And the red handles did fade a bit.

I have owned many LLBean bags over the years. In fact, I still have most of them because they NEVER wear out and last FOREVER!:)

I have always washed them in the washer (multiple times) and they come out just fine. I don't put them in the dryer. I shape them back to their original shape and stand them up to dry. They do lose some of the stiffness in the fabric, but not enough to affect their appearance or function. None of the colors have ever bled, but then again I don't have any with red on them.
