Hi,
Just wondering whether or not to get some $$ for next year through Crown Currency Exchange.. they are offering $2 to the £, if you order now for next May!
Has anyone used them before, if so, were they ok?? I'm just a little concerned about the 'postal' system.
Any veiws?

Hi Tracy,

I've not used them myself but that is an excellent rate. I'm quite a risk averse person so would be anxious about giving my money to someone when ultimately I have no guarantee I would get it back if something went wrong with the company.

People on here have used them with no problems though and got good rates and been very pleased :thumbsup2

Here is a thread from a few weeks ago wth some views on:

Thanks for that Miffy.
I'm sure I saw a thread last year about them, and they seemed to be ok?!

We have just used them for our currency, and found them to be first rate. The communication with them was very good, and they let me know exactly what was going on at all times.

Currency arrived when it was supposed to (which is nice!) via recorded (or registered or special - one or the other) mail.

I was also a little dubious about using them, but all went ok.

I guess the question about whether it is better to lock yourself into them now, is a trickier one. Will depend on how much cash you are intending to get, and whether that is worth trying to hedge your rate. On £2500, the difference is $375, so don't forget to factor in any interest you may receive in the meantime. Basically, you are just protecting yourself, like having a fixed rate mortgage. Rates may go up or down - to quote every single money related advert on TV.

Thanks BossHogg!
They are quoting $2 to the £ if we buy now! I personally don't think the 'over the counter' rate will go up that far.. but you never know!
I can remember going to the US in the 70's as a kid and it was $2.50 to £1!!
Think thats when I fell into the 'spend, spend, spend' mode!!! Oooops!

Thanks for the reassurance BossHog.

I took the plunge a few weeks ago with Crown Currency when they were offering $1.90 and everyone else was offering $1.80.

Our currency is due to arrive on 8th December for our Christmas trip so to hear of the good service you received is excellent and reassuring news for me!

I ordered from CCE in May for a delivery in Oct. When I called them to order I asked "what happens if you go bust between now and October?". Basically they said I'd lose the money as they are not bonded with ABTA or anyone. But I took the plunge and ordered.

The $$ arrived exactly when expected (in different size notes too, which is good from $5 to £50, no $100 bills which is great!)

I have re-ordered more for delivery on 1st Dec.

I would recommend no problems!

That's exactly the point I'm making, Lorraine - you got your money and you are very happy, and no wonder with such a great rate.

What I'm saying is, there is a risk (not for me to say how small though I'm sure it's probably tiny) and it is good to be aware of it :)
