Hi everyone -

I'm new here but have been reading for a while! Took my first trip to WDW this year and am definitely hooked!! :cool1:

I am going back down to Florida in Feb 2008 and am having difficulty weighing pros and cons on different flight options. I am actually flying into FLL for this trip as we'll be doing a cruise from there.

I live in Northern Ontario, so driving to YYZ is already 3.5 hrs of driving. I have been considering going that extra bit further to Buffalo to get the better flight prices, but with just not knowing the weather at that time of year, I am hesitant :confused3

Right now, the prices out of BUF look to be around $250 CDN for a 1 stop flight with AirTrans to FLL. I'm not really familiar with "typical" rates that time of year so I don't know if that's good.

I love WestJet, but right now their rates from YYZ are over $500. Can't really justify that.

I just found a non-stop Sunwing charter from YYZ for $390, which is a little more like it, price wise! I have never flown with them before... does anyone have any opinions?

Has anyone ever flown into MCO, to squeeze in a day @ Disney before heading down to Fort Lauderdale? How long is the drive and can you get one-way car rentals?

Am I better off just waiting for better flight prices? One of my fellow travellers is worried planes will "fill up" so is urging me to book something now. I tend to want to wait for a sale, but I've never travelled that time of year. It is reading week for my university, and may be for others as well.

We live about 2 hours north-east of Toronto and always fly out of Buffalo now when travelling to Disney. It is always much cheaper to fly out of Buffalo and we find it a lot less hassle, much smaller airport, easier to park, some good hotels within a few minutes that will do the park and fly thing if we are flying out early. If you book on specific airlines (I believe there is a list on the Disney site) and are using the magical express then your luggage goes directly to the resort, and you can check in for your flight at the resort on your return. It saves all the time collecting luggage and going through security at the airports because you have gone through U.S. security when you cross the border.
If you travel to Buffalo the day before you fly out to Disney it gives you a bit of a break and there's lots of shopping, Buffalo Sabres hockey games, etc.. to get you into vacation mode.
A lot of time you have to do the one-stop to get to Florida, but I've only run into bad weather once when travelling through Philadelphia and we were going on a cruise out of Miami. We were really late arriving, 2 a.m. but always fly in the day before a cruise, some people on our flight were getting on a cruise that day at 5 pm and of course missed it.
Not sure on the travel time to Ft. Lauderdale, but is it better to fly in there and then back out of Orlando? We did that on our Miami cruise and it was about a 4 hour drive back to Disney.
Hope this helps, it's worked well for us the last few years.

the prices look great. but one thing i didn't like was the return flight on a Sunday to Thursday trip i thought about booking. the return was a 1 stop flight that went from Orlando to Miami then Toronto. 5+ hrs. No thanks!

Southwest Airlines will likely be charging anywhere from $49 to $69 each way for travel during February. Add another $10 each way for taxes. But that is from Buffalo and Buffalo is famous for that white stuff during winter.

You have to wait for their booking window to open that includes February travel and you have to wait for one of their sales, which ALWAYS happens.
