Has anyone ever used the new kind of luggage locks that have a special logo on them to let screeners and airport security know that they can be opened up with a certain key?

Yes, we used them in August. Ours are shocking pink. I purchased 2 sets (2 locks/keys each). The keys are not interchangeable. I guess they worked - when we checked our bags, they were locked and when we got them off the conveyor belt, they were locked!

Where do you get the locks at, walmart? I was not aware that they could be used anymore, guess I was thinking for security reasons they might not allow it. But since hearing there was no problems for a few of you I think I want to get them.
Thanks

For over 10 years now, we've been using o-rings. Just put the two pulls together and put both through the o-rings. We've been very lucky with this process. No-one will take the time to undo this, and we don't have to lose the key!

Target has the locks: a package of 2 for about $16 in stores; on-line soon. These do not use keys, but have a 3-number combination, and are marked so that TSA personnel know they can open them and relock your luggage for inspection.

I know that QVC has them, you can check on their website, but,I didn't want to spend extra money for them,if they really wouldn't work for the airport security. Thanks for the replys. The checked luggage was what I was most interested in knowing about. Also,my daughter said she saw them at our local Wal-Mart,couldn't remember the price.Does anyone know how much they are at Wal-Mart?

I've just been using zip ties. I bought a big pack of them. If security wants to search the bags, they cut them off and replace them with new zip ties. I also don't put valuables in my checked baggage. I think that if someone really wants in, your average luggage lock is just about as secure as a zip tie. When I get to my resort, I head to the cafeteria to get the ties cut off. The tags on the refillable mugs are attached with exactly the same kind of tie.

We used the new locks on our last trip in May. When we picked up our bags, one of the locks was gone. The bag had been searched. I don't know if the airport screeners in Duluth Mn are to blame, or if the bag was checked in Seattle before we took a cruise. (Screeners in the cruise ship area)
I am not sure if we will lock the bags on our next trip.

We've used our locks several times. In August, our luggage was searched by the TSA; so, apparently, the locks work.

I got our combination locks online from one of the many luggage websites, but they seem to be readily available anywhere that sells luggage. The only problem we ever had was on a trip from Philadelphia to Los Angeles (first trip to Disneyland!), then Santa Ana to Maui, then Maui to Santa Ana again, then LA to Philly -- every leg of that trip the same bag was opened by TSA. Once they put the lock on another piece of our luggage so we arrived with 2 locks on one case and none on the one that had been searched. Three times out of four TSA left a note that the bag had been searched (we found out later it was the hand lotion that caused them to check the contents -- apparently most lotions contain glycerin).

You can get them at your local AAA too! I bought some for our trip in May - but I couldn't find them at the last minute. I just used the twistie ties off of the bread. Our bags were searched - they cut the tie - but they were nice enough to thread it back through and secure the locks again. I didn't try and make the bags inaccessible - I just twisted the ties enough to make sure my luggage wouldn't accidently open.

I used them to fly oversea without a problem, my DH used a lock to fly to Orlando, they searched the suitcase and did not put the lock back on, so here goes $10 down the drain.....

I went to WDW in January and Logan security made me leave the special locks unlocked. Defeats the purpose. On the way home, though, security at MCO said I could keep them on as long as I stood by while the suitcases went through the scanner, just in case they needed me to open them.

Well I just bought 2 sets of them at Walmart. Hopefully they hold up. I am due to get on the plane to Philly tomorrow. I will let you know how they hold up when I get back!!

AAA has them in their store and online. They are about $7 each I believe. I have a friend that works at the airport here and he said there usually isn't a problem with those locks. Said they usually don't search unless they really see something.

Anyone prefer a particular kind? The dial kind or the key kind? I can get 4 key kind on ebags for $9 w/ free ship or I can get 2 dial for $14.
