I've been told it's good for upping your milk supply (for bf baby) just want to know if anyone has had any luck with it or you had any problems with it...

I looked into Brewer's Yeast for the same reason. On the message boards of the LeLechae Web site (I think) the women said they had a problem with being gassy because of it, but that one beer a day would do the trick (it has brewers yeast in it) without the side effect. I talked to my pedi. she agreed that a beer a day works. I tried it and was amazed how well it worked! I hate, hate, hate the taste of beer but for the whole time I was bf I had one a day. If I missed a couple of days my supply would drop. I made sure to have the beer right ofter one feeding during the evening when I knew there would be time to let the alcohol wear off before the next feeding. Talk to your pedi to see what they say. Good luck!

I hadn't heard of brewer's yeast for milk production before. I have heard of feeding it to your dog for a glossier coat of fur. Maybe a side effect will be fuller, shinier, healthier hair? :teeth:

From what I understand, Bfeeding is a supply and demand system - the more your baby "demands" your body will bump up production to keep up with the "supply". Basically - put your baby to nurse more frequently. It generally takes about 2 days for your body to adjust it's supply to meet the demand once baby starts to "ask" for more milk.

I was always worried about having enough for my first baby. I had less than AA sized cups before I got pregnant. I even got rude comments from co-workers about how my poor baby was going to starve. I am now successfully Bfeeding my 2nd child who is 8 months old. My first was Bfed till about 17 months. Both were Bfeed exclusively till I started solids at about 5 months.

Good luck! I'm glad with my Bfeeding choices and that I didn't let the negative comments and my own small breast size get me down. I have two healthy, robust boys and a lot of bonding time.

I use it when making beer, but that knowledge doesn't seem to apply here!

If you are trying to build up your breastmilk supply, you might also want to consider fenugreek. It's an herb that you can by at GNC or any health food store. See www.kellymom.com for proper dosing (btw...kellymom is a great resource for nursing moms).

I used fenugreek on and off while I was bf and it really helped out my supply. I had some supply problems when I went back to work full time and talked to a couple of different lactation consultants and La Leche League. They all gave a thumbs up to fenugreek. It is also one of the main ingredients in "nursing mother's tea" that you will also find at a health food store.

Good luck.

My supply started decreasing when I went back to work, too. I tried fenugreek, which seemed to work for a while. I couldn't stand the smell of my milk when I took it, though, and it seemed like I had to take an awful lot of it for it to do any good.
