Anyone ever try Low Carbing on WW?

I know it can be done because I'm trying it today. Food so far:

4 oz cottage cheese - 2 points
1 ice coffee (made it myself w/1/2 & 1/2) - 1 point

6 oz. chicken - 6 points
veggies - 1 point (I always count lots of veggies as one point)

Dinner will probably be a lot of low fat protein (chicken) or fat free franks

I am convinced this can be done if you stick with low point proteins (chicken, turkey, fish).

Anyone ever try this successfully? Advice?

I have never tried it...but it doesn't make sense...In order for Atkins to work effectively you need a certain amount of fat. If all you are doing is eating low carb/low fat high protein foods...thats not really atkins.

IMHO....I don't see how you could do both of them the way they were intended to be done. I would be curious to see if this works for you. I think it might get very boring...but if it works than great. Let me know how it goes.

I tried it but failed miserably. The foods that I would eat (example: prime rib) would be free food on Atkins, but would be a zillion points on WW!

And, the foods that were low in WW points (example: crackers, or a potato) were a zillion carbs on Atkins!

LOL! Oh well. I went back to Atkins, and I'm feeling much healthier.

Ooops. I didn't realize you had to eat a certain amount of fat. I suppose if I read the Atkins book, I'd be more familiar with it.

I think I'm going back to my original plan of not eating processed "white" carbohydrates. It was closer to a low glycemic diet than Atkins. I must admit, I do feel fuller today with no white carbs than I usually do.

Unless it's a scheduled cheat meal for me, I am not eating potatoes, rice, pasta, bread, etc. after 4:00 pm. :) I am pretending to do low carb/WW *but I know there are carbs in my sugar free pudding and my skinny cows...*

I don't think Donna is trying to do Atkins and WW - just doing WW low carb and I believe you can do that. :) My dinners are always low carb - typically chicken, broccoli, green beans, salad. If carbs are supposed to be bad for us, there is no reason a person on WW can't lower their intake and still be successful.

Here is a link http://groups.msn.com/WWBuddies2003/eatingyourrightmix.msnw that may help as well. Just be sure you are eating enough and staying OP. :)

As long as you stay away from refined carbs, Donna, i think you will do well. You will be following WW just not eating any refined carbs, you aren't required to eat flour, sugar, pasta or bread, are you?

If you confine your carbohydrate intake to low glycemic index fruits and veggies you should do great. Milk is pretty high carb, though, are you required to drink milk?

WW gives you a point value that you must stay within to be successful. While they make *suggestions* of how those points should be spent each day, you could spend them all on potato chips, or all on nothing but fats and proteins. WW also has 0 point veggies which are most of the veggies allowed on Atkins- so you wouldn't even need to count those.

While I personally have never tried it, I see no reason why it can't be done.

In one of the WW books, I think it might be week 6, but don't quote me on it. It talks about doing a lower carb or higher carb option. It depends on how your body reacts to carbs. I like eating more low fat protein on WW. I like the way I feel fuller longer and seem to have more energy.
