Anyone ever surprise your children

Boy, I sure wish someone would surprise me with a trip to Disney. It would be so nice to wake up to work only to find out I was going to my favorite place on earth. :earsboy:

My friend and I are surprising our DDs :earsgirl: :earsgirl: with a 4 day 3 night trip to Disney in October to celebrate their 9th b-days. We have everything booked, and the MNSSHP tickets are hidden away.
We're planning on waking them up at 2 am and putting them in the car and not telling them where were going. (telling them were going to the mountains might work since we live in NC)
I'm making up a cd with sounds :rolleyes1 from Disney rides and from the parks and we'll play that for them when we reach Florida. We're also making up bags with Disney dollars, homemade "Mother and Daughter Disney World Trip 2005" tee shirts, Disney coloring pages and activity books, etc. that we will give them. Then we'll see how long it takes them to figure it out. If they still don't guess we can put the Disney Plannning DVD ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo in the car player and hopefully that will give them a big clue. :earseek:

We can't wait to see the looks on their faces. That's if neither one of us blows the surprise.

We never surprised our kids with Disney trips before but tried it in June. It backfired BIG time!

We wanted to take DS for a quick trip for the Star Wars weekends. (He is and has been a BIG Star Wars fan for years) We picked him up from school on Friday and told him we had a surprise for him. He tried to guess a few things but couldn't. Then he mentioned something happening at school on the Monday. We told him he wouldn't be in school Monday since we were coming home Monday night. He got so upset! So we decided to tell him earlier than we planned about going to Disney and Star Wars Weekends. He started crying and yelling that he didn't want to go to Disney World! THAT's when we realize we go too much :( When a kid would rather go to school than go to Disney World......

He did finally calm down and the next morning as he got on his Anakin costume, he was excited. But we learned no more surprise trips for him, we'll always tell him beforehand so he can prepare himself and get excited.

I surprised my dd for her 8th birthday.

We had gone for the 1st time last year in the summer. I told her it would most likely be quite a while before we would be able to afford it again. Being the angel she is (moslty :) ) she said I know mommy, I'm just happy we were able to go once.
I was already planning to get the money together to go over Thanksgiving vacation (near her birthday). We had to discuss it discreetly with her teacher so she'd be aware that my daughter would be out for 2 days of school following vacation.
The day before we were leaving I told her I had an early bday present for her. I handed her a disney brochure. She kinda looked at it and said thanks...lol. I said don't you like it? She said yea... but she has some like it from the time we went to Disney in the summer. I said yea, but I wanted to remind you so you remember what you wanted to do first when we get there tomorrow. I think it was trying to sink in, but she didn't really believe me. I said, you have to hurry now cause you need to pack cause the plane leaves early tomorrow. Now she believed me and her face lit up and she jumped off the sofa into my arms! She was so happy!

We stayed for 8 days, and as I said in another thread they made it a special birthday for her.

Have fun with your surprise! I'm sure they'll love it!

8 Ears.. food doesn't have to cost that much with some planning. If the hotel/resort I go to doesn't have a refrigerator, I rent one. It saves lots of money! Restaurant . com has coupons for savings in the area, and you can purchase the orlando entertainment book for probably the cost of shipping right now. Don't give up!

You are all good...I can't keep my BIG mouth shut!

It was SO hard!!! I had to keep my big mouth shut for 8 months! No surprises for our next trip in October - I don't think I could do it again! :teeth:

well, I would tell the kids we were changing planes in orlando on the way to the beach, or that we were driving from there, that way, when they saw the signs for Disney and started the usual "why can't we go there instead" begging, we can shock them by saying OK and pulling in. Worked really well for us anyway.

I'm surprising our 2 DD's this December. We are going to Disney in August, but they don't know that we're going again in December. DH is not joining us in August, but he will be there in December.

I'm thinking that I will send them to my Mom's for the evening while I pack the suitcases. I will put them in my van. The next morning we'll tell them we have to pick someone up at the airport. I haven't really thought out if we'll tell them then or let them guess.

I figure since we've been planning this August trip for about a year, and plan on returning in June/July 2006 that they will still get all the benefits of planning and looking forward to a trip. The December trip is just a nice little bonus.

We've never surprised our kids with a trip to WDW until NOW!! DH and I are keeping our September trip a secret from DS9 and DD5 (at trip time). I had to be very careful making my AR so that they wouldn't catch on. So far so good. I'm trying to pack a little at a time. On the day of our trip we will take them to Grandma and Grandpa's for a couple of hours while we load the van. We'll pretend that we are leaving for a one or two day trip and will leave at night. When the kids wake up we will be in FL!!!!

I am trying both tactics this year. We are leaving on Friday for our well-planned 10-day Florida trip. We will be visting my parents in Sarasota, sister in Naples, and then we are all finishing the week off at Disney.

No one but me knows about our upcoming trip in early October. I actually booked the room at the Swan in my wife's name to get the too good to pass up $99 teacher's rate. It is just a long weekend trip and I'm going to try to keep the destination secret.

I usually surprise my wife with 2-3 get-away weekends per year. I usually pick something closer like Charleston, Mytle Beach, Savannah, or Atlanta, but I have dropped a surprise trip to New Orleans on her. This will be our first surprise trip to WDW. I often arrange for our kids to stay with a relative, but given the destination, they will be coming with us on this one. I'm trying to plan to travel at night so that we are pulling up right when DS(5) wakes up. I can't wait to see his excitement.

DH and I are planning a suprise trip for our Godson in November. While we were on our last trip we brought signs that each had one word on them and asked the characters to hold them up.
The signs read: Hey, wanna go to Disney with us?? We are going to show them to him, and tell him when he gets home from school the day before we leave.
He totally wants to go to Disney. He loves hearing about our trips and looking at our pictures. We have told him and his brothers and sisters that when they are old enough (8-9), and if mom and dad say its ok, we will take them.
I am having a hard time not telling him! He is going to be so excited!!

That is the GREATEST way of suprising anyone, I ever heard of! WOW what a great idea!

We surprised our kids in Sept. last year, we picked them up from school with the ruse that we were going to have dinner out with Grandma and Grandpa (Grandma and Grandpa were driving us to the airport) I did a word search puzzle online that held all the clues. It was a great surprise, both dd's would like our next trip to be a surprise but ds(5) said he didn't really like being surprised. When we were in the car we couldn't convince him that we were really going to Disney. He started to cry and said 'this was a really mean trick to play'. When we crossed the border and dh told the customs officer where we were going he perked up and said 'We really are going to Disney! I know Daddy wouldn't lie to that man!' I'll never forget the look on his face when he finally 'got' the surprise!

DISUNC: No she doesn't read these boards. She relies on me to plan our trips. Plus, she doesn't get online without buying something. :confused3 ;)

I am trying a surprise trip for the first time in Oct. My kids are 11 & 6 and we have only been to Disney two other times. I think they will be very excited. They asked about going back and we told them maybe next summer, because they are too old to take time off from school now.

We are just going to wake them up on Saturday morning and give them each a gift box w/ t-shirts, guide books, stickers, etc. If they don't catch on then we'll tell them. I can't wait to see their faces. I am more excited about surprising them than I am about the trip at this point.

It is hard to get on the phone everyday and make my AR's without getting caught.

I am surprising DSis (9yo) with a trip in Nov. She is going with our parents in August and DD and I are tagging along for a few days. She knows that DD and I are going in Nov/Dec, but thinks that it is after Thanksgiving. She also knows that she is going to spend Thanksgiving with DD and me (she's in St. Louis and we live in Boston). Mom is going to repack her suitcase with locale appropriate clothes while she is at school. Then, when Mom picks her up from school to take her to the airport, she is going to give her a bag of gift and I will call the cell phone to fill her in on the surprise. I am certain that she will be really excited because she as disappointed that we were going without DSis (my first trip without her since we first went when she was 5yo). I'm not sure what will be in the bag yet, but probably her Mickey Santa ears, lanyard, and a few new things. I am so excited about it!!!

My parents surprised me when I was in 1st grade. They picked me up at the Back Door and asked me were I would go, if I could go anywhere in the world. At first, I said Chuckie Cheese's. LOL! :rotfl: Then, they suggested Disney World, and I asked them questions like "Did you pack?" and everything. They have it on video tape! :rotfl: I was really surprised. My teacher even knew about it, but it was a wonderful trip!

:cheer2: We had so much fun surprising our 10 year old DD, it was to be her first trip to WDW and we had talked about going for several months but told her we just couldnt this year.

It was in November and we told her to pack for a weekend in Toronto. I had packed all the warm weather stuff when we changed over to fall clothes so she never thought any thing of it.

When we got to the airport I did every thing I could to keep her from hearing or seeing anything Orlando and Disney!

We got on the plane and I kept her busy playing cards and other games and every time the captain came on I started talking louder! She never cought on! :rotfl2:

We got to Orlando and this is the best part...she wanted to know why there were palm trees in Toronto and then it hit her that we were at Disney and she started screaming, laughing and crying all at the same time!!! :cool1:

Too bad mom and dad were too busy watching for her reaction instead of getting the camera out!!!

It has been 4 years and we still talk about it. :earboy2:

So if your kids are as trusting as our DD was then you too can pull it off, just remember one of you get the camera!!!!

My parents surprised my sister and I one christmas. They gift wrapped a large box. And then inside that box was a smaller one and so on.
In the smallest box there were pamphlets to Disneyland. At first we were confused but when my mom confirmed we were really going to Disneyland we went crazy!
It was very exciting. Especially for a young child. They let us open the present on Christmas Eve and we left on Christmas morning.

I surprised my sister (21 yrs. old) with a first time trip. I had created a start of a scrapbook in case she couldn't figure:confused: out by what I had placed in a box. I put a cat toy that was a mouse (Mickey), a golf ball (Epcot), a couple of Disney stickers and Pixie Dust (glitter) in a jar. She couldn't figure it out so I finally gave her the album and the first page said "Pack your bags, Off we go!!!" Well she finally figured it out and was jumping  until I told her we're flying :scared: she said oh well i'll drink before hand!!! :drinking1:
