I was looking at some travel ideas, for the next year or two and want something "beachy". We have 3 boys, 11, 5, 3 and would love to do something to an island or similar.

I want something family friendly and safe and Beaches came to mind. I know the cost is usually pretty high.

Has anyone ever stayed at a Beaches? Was it worth the cost? Any ideas on how to save some money on a trip there? Any alternatives to Beaches that are more cost effective?

Stayed at Beaches Sandy Bay Negril Jamaica. I wasn't there with family (solo). My daughter was getting married at Couples Resort and I wasn't a couple at the time. There were ton's of kids there but you would never know it. They were busy all the time. I could not believe the service at Beaches. I was so amazed when I remarried we honeymooned at Sandals Grande St. Lucia (Sandals is Beaches for couples) I always check but it a bit two steep for my budget so we settle for Disney.

we stayed at the signature resort in negril (more $$$$). the previous poster must not have been there during high season. we went during high season and it was AWFUL! I had two children. my son got bitten in the nursery but no one knew who did it. Poor supervision in there. there were kids - school aged - literally running rampant all over the resort. there was no relaxing because there were screeching kids everywhere. and i have a high tolerance for that.
We needed handicap accomodations because of my mother. there were no elevators at the time - they put her on the third floor! that was after we waited two hours for them to "clean" said room. we arrived at 5PM at night. needless to say that was not going to be acceptable. then, they had to relocate us around 3 days in even after they moved my mom to a lower floor. and - i had booked us a full year in advance. there was no excuse for what we went through. and we were signature guests members through our previous stays at sandals.
service was mediocore at best.
and i paid enough to go there that i could have bought a new car.

my friend, for the price they ask, it isn't worth it. don't do it. basically, everyone that week that we talked to - other families - basically were shocked at the poor value we were receiving for the astronomical prices. many of the families were saying they would go back to "xyz" resort and a few had even tried to check out but couldn't find other accomodations (again - high season for carribean travel).

we won't even go back to sandals - where we had had overall positive experiences - after that. it was just that awful. i'm glad with the adults only resort we have found now (le blanc -its amazing and blows sandals out of the water!) and we stay at barcelo resorts for families when we go other places and we have had great luck with those resorts as well.

We've stayed at 3 Beaches resorts - Sandy Bay, Negril and Turks and Caicos. We had a great experience at all of them, but Turks and Caicos is their signature resort, and it is by far the best. We thought the beach was prettiest at Negril, but the amenities were the best at Turks and Caicos. If I had to pick one to revisit, Turks and Caicos wins hands down - so luxurious!

We went to the one in Negril. We had a great time. The beach was beautiful. Our son was 8 when we went, so the care problems the PP mentioned wasn't a problem for us.

I wouldn't go back to the one in Negril because I have a better feel for the other (cheaper) resorts there, but I'd go to Beaches again in general.

Been to Beaches Turks and Caicos twice, yep cost a smal fortune but totally worth it both times.

We are actually looking to cancel our Disney cruise in April and go to beaches instead.

I highly highly recommend Beaches Turks and Caicos. It is pricey but it is totally worth every penny and when you consider everything that is included in the cost, the price makes more sense. You are not just paying for a hotel room. They have been having some pretty good sales recently (65% off and companion flies free). If you have specific questions, feel free to PM me.

We've been to Beaches T & C 3 times and loved it. There are several pools some are geared towards little kids some more for adults but there is something for everyone. Also there are tons of activities for all ages. You are given a schedule for the week if you want to participate. We also loved the restaurants and food as well as the staff. All very pleasant. Pricewise not too much different that WDW with deluxe hotel, food and tickets. We find the biggest difference is in airfare which is out of the park right now from Milwaukee or Chicago. Last time I checked it was over a $1500 difference than Orlando. I would go again in a minute but the price difference is just too much. :)
