Anyone ever stay in a FW cabin?

I'm thinking about a trip maybe using our points in a FW cabin for something different when our passes expire. I thought the kids would get a kick out of renting a golf cart and maybe using up our old park hopper options for the two water parks - kind of a nonpark trip. Go to the putt putts, Hoop, etc.

Just curious if you thought it was a good value and a fun thing to try. Points during spring break are 36 a night, who knows what they'll be the following year... :confused3

We stayed in a cabin and loved it. You really need to book the golf cart ASAP if you book the cabin. I could be a long walk to the buses if your cabin is at the end of a loop. The pool is large, but not themed. We loved to drive around the campground to the pool, store, etc. It is very peaceful. The cabin has a double and bunk bed in one bedroom and a double bed pulls out of the wall in the living room. Only one bathroom. Full kitchen is nice. I would stay there again in a heart beat!

We stayed in one several years ago. It was very relaxing and peaceful. I really enjoyed it and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. I especially liked the grill on the deck in front of the cabin. We used that a couple different times the week we were there.

We stayed in a cabin in March and LOVED it! The bedroom is good sized and there is a murphy bed in the living room, plus a full kitchen. If renting a golf cart do it now as they sell out fast. We plan to stay there again in the future as it was very relaxing. There are multiple pools although non-themed and play structures for kids. Plus there are plenty of recreational activities such as bikes, kayaks/canoes, fishing, water craft on the bay, campfire sing along and nightly movies, etc.

Not as DVC members, but we rented FW cabins a few times and loved it, and we will do it again, sometime. FW is a perfect place for a bike ride! We always went to the Campfire, s'mores and Chip and Dale and singing camping songs are some of our best memories of those family vacations.

Also stayed there and really enjoyed it there.

We stayed in one a few years ago and loved it...

One nice thing about the cabins is you definately don't feel like you are staying at a resort... With each unit standing on its own, you feel like you are staying at your own place... Kinda hard to describe...

The only downside was that there were no washer/dryers in the cabin... You need to do laundry in the public laundry facilities located around the cabins.. Not a huge deal, but if you are used to throwing a load in here and there and then coming back for it later, you may have to adjust...

We also liked the "cabins" (they are mobile homes that have been made to look like permanent cabins.) The downside though is taking the transporation to get to anyplace takes forever. You have to master the internal bus to get to the bus that will take you to where you want to go on Disney property. Then do the reverse to get home at the end of a long day. Other than transportation not being as quick as we were used to, we loved the cabins.

Don't forget to bring a flashlight. Walks back to your cabin from the bus stop after dark are VERY DARK! I love staying there, and we have great memories from the cabins there.

I've stayed at the FW cabins 5 or 6 times over the years (before DVC) and I love them! Being in the outdoor atmosphere is very relaxing and you really feel a world away from reality! You're reminded that you're in Disney when you can hear the train whistle from the MK.

Just remember that although the cabin can fit 6 people, it is a little more cramped than what we're used to with DVC accomodations. I hope to return there again soon using our points. I definately think it's worth the points!:thumbsup2

I guess that we must be the only ones who did not care for the cabins. :-(

We may have just gone at a bad time (end of Sept.) but we had extremely noisy neighbors and tons of kids running wild that were also very loud. Of course, this can happen at any resort so its not the cabins' fault.

We were a bit crowded for 5 people and the particpular cabin that we were in was in desperate need of refurbishment, worn furniture, etc.. Good news was that it was clean, well stocked if you planned to cook, and the enviroment can be a nice change from the standard resorts.

We might try it again some day as DH would have enjoyed getting to see more of FW.

Thanks for all the replies! I compared spring break to Memorial Day week. Spring break currently is 36, Memorial Day week is 32. Maybe we'll do Memorial Day week instead or would that be a bad move weather wise? This would be a water park trip. Thoughts?
