Anyone ever stay at the Cabins at FW

Okay, one more finally -- someone on the Disboards recommended Loop 2500 to me, so I asked for it. We were assigned to that loop and it was perfect. We were very near the quiet pool that also has a hot tub. Even though it was a busy time of the year, it was like we had our own pool and hot tub.

Have fun!

Was there much foot traffic as you were so near the pool and Hot tubs?

We stayed in the cabins two Februarys ago and plan to go back February 2013, we loved them! It was my husband and I on the murphy bed in the living room and the three kids in the back bedroom and they rotated the top bunk. Love the kitchen and dishwasher! I asked for a centrally located cabin but it was not ready when we got there at 11 a.m. so we opted for one that was ready since we had a car full of groceries, next time I would try to get one closer to the marina we loved taking the boat to MK. Internal bus was great and waiting for the other park buses was never an issue. It is a laid back resort and quiet, we LOVED it!:thumbsup2

We are booked to stay at the Wilderness Lodge from 9/29 to 10/5. I started looking at info for the FW cabins and now I am torn as to where we should stay. We will be taking advantage of the free dining during our stay so we'd use the kitchen sparingly. I like the idea of a little extra space in a cabin.

I priced it out yesterday and it is a little cheaper to stay in a cabin and if I add in a golf cart it is about equal. I was surprised there was not more of a price difference.

So...now I must decide what to do. I appreciate all the info everyone is sharing on these cabins :)

We have stayed in the 2500 and 2700 loops. Both are near the quiet pool and there is little traffic, foot or otherwise.
If you want it real quiet as for a cabin near the back of the loop so that the busses will be less noticable.:thumbsup2

I think the cabins are just OK. The BR has a double bed and bunks, only 1 bath, and the LR has a murphy bed. When the bed is down, you really can't use the LR at all. We liked the convienence of a kitchen.

Frankly, I would try to rent points and stay in a DVC villa. Our experience in the cabins really led us to investigate and buy-in to DVC. That was 10 years ago, and we love the space, convenience, and locations of the villa.

We do like Ft Wilderness, and we have camped there in our RV. The bus service is fine and we also enjoy renting a golf cart to get around.

Good luck with your decision.

Greatness! This sounds like what we were looking for, so we will see if we can get one of those 2 loops.

The Kitchen is what we are interested in.. With 4 children, we are hoping to save some $$$$ by eating breakfast in the cabin. :)

I am curious to see how the kids react to having to bunk up and rotate together.. and the 1 bath.. with 3 girls plus mom.... This should be interesting! :rotfl:

The bathrooms by the pool have showers. You might want to request being close to them.

The quiet pool near the cabins has restrooms but does not have showers. If you want to be close to showers ask for the 2100 loop, it has a path to the showers in the 1100 RV loop, which is really close.

There were people walking around, riding bikes and golf carts, etc., but it wasn't a lot of people. There was a laundry facility near the pool, so there were more people coming to use that than anything else. It didn't interfere with our enjoyment of the cabin or the pool.

We thought that would be true and intended to use the showers by the quiet pool. We were sadly surprised to see that it wasn't a true "comfort station" like at the campground part of the resort. The restrooms by the quiet pool near the 2500 loop did NOT have showers as of April 2011 when we were there.

So how was it sleeping on the Murphy bed? I've seen a few posts that the bed is uncomfortable (is it like sleeping on a hide-a-bed? UGH!) Reason I ask is since it will be me, my DD and my parents, my daughter and I may have to take the bedroom (since I'm sure she doesn't want to share the bedroom with my parents LOL).

Thanks for the info about Garden Grocer, the loops and pool locations and the golf carts it helps tremendously.

does anyone have an actual map of Fort Wilderness that they can send me? PM me and I'll give you my personal email. I really want a copy to look at and show my folks so we can see what will be most comfortable for them.

I'm 56 years old and I sleep on the Murphy bed all the time.. To me they are just like the other beds..
You don't need a golf cart but they are so much fun..

I stayed, for the first time, at the Cabins during Labour day weekend last year. I LOVED the experience. My dad, stepmom and I took the bedroom (dad and I slept in the bunk beds LOL!!) and my grandparents took the murphy bed which they said was comfortable. It has everything for six people (silverwear, dishes). A full kitchen and a HUGE bathroom.
There's a TV in the bedroom and one in the living room with a DVD player. Most of the furnishings are very rustic and made out of wood. And the cabins have a lovely wooden smell inside of them. They all have A/C. Outside there is a porch with a pick-nick table and even a grill.

Transportation: You have an Internal bus system that gets you from the Outpost (Where reception is), past all of the sites, to the Meadow Post (Where the main pool with water slide is, also where they do the backyard BBQ and most of the kids games) and on to the Settlement Post (Where there are two restaurants, shop and the marina.)

To travel INSIDE the Wilderness we always rent a golf cart. Usually, you can leave its battery charging at the Settlement Post if you are going to take one of the boats to Fort Wilderness Lodge (I recommend doing that, I love that little trip), Contemporary or Magic Kingdom.

To get to all parks, EXCEPT Magic Kingdom. Take a bus out to the Outpost and then transfer to another bus that takes you to whatever park you want. To the MK, just use the Marina.

Have fun!! :)

Radiorox, The Backyard BBQ is not at the Meadows, but in the Pavilion behind Pioneer Hall in the Settlement. And although there are a few plug-in spaces at the marina for GC's, if you charge it overnight at your site, it will run for several days unless you run it continuously all day.
