I just want to get a cheepie pair of glasses to watch tv at night. I do wear contacts, so my glasses would have to be perscription, (not the over counter ones you can get for reading and such).

Anyway, I do have a dr. perscription. I know I can get an inexpensive pair of frames, but will they hose me on the lenses?

I have not purchased glasses at WalMart, but I have purchased glasses twice at Costco they were fine. They have a very nice selection, including name brands at a great price, and basic lenses are MUCH less expensive than those at stores such as LensCrafters.

It was more than five years ago but I did get a pair of frames and prescription lenses at Walmart. They were not inexpensive, I bought a designer frame, but they've been excellent glasses. However now that I have AAA, for my next pair of prescription sunglasses I will probably use the 30% discount at Lenscrafters. I'm going to use the Walmart specs though as long as they last, I still like them a lot.

I just got my new glasses from Sam's. The salesman at Sam's told me the Walmart was more expensive on the lenses than Sam's. I have not had any problems with them once I got over the first fittings.

I used to work for an optometrist. He always suggested getting the cheapest lenses possible and then take your new glasses to your optometrist to have them check the prescription, free of charge of course! :)

hey I love America's Best - they have pretty cheap prices. and have never gotten my prescription wrong.

that say - I would go to one of the Dollar stores for reading glasses. you might find one you can use for a dollar....

Is there a For Eyes location near you? Try www.foreyes.com. They often have two pairs of glasses for $99

I don't know about prices, since I haven't bought glasses in several years (Go Lasix!!!) My dad got his last pair at WalMart, and while we were at WDW last spring, he went into an AC'ed building from the wicked heat and humidity, and one of the lens shattered. When he went to WalMart to get it fixed, they couldn't get a new lens for a week, still charged him for it (the glasses weren't even a year old), and were just really nasty about fixing them.

Both my son and I got our glasses at Walmart. I think mine were less than $130, his were about $175 (designer frames). They were very helpful and pleasant.

I'm pretty sure that the eye care places in Walmart are contracted. Which means that they are just an eye care center located in Walmart. My husband has purchased 2 pair (at different times) from Walmart and has been happy with both. Three if you count Rx sunglasses. The most recent was just a change in his Rx. I would shop around, but we have been happy with Walmart.

I just got a pair from walmart - I have gotten my glasses there since I was a kid. The total cost: $130. I really only wear them at night, they work great for me. I can't imagine spending hundreds on a pair of glasses. :3dglasses

I would skip walmart and order from www.39dollarglasses.com. They are only $39.99 and includes everything! I ordered from them and the glasses are great!! I also have a co-worker that ordered and is very happy as well. You can even print out the frames you like and match them up to your current frames or your face to see how they will look.

I am like you, I wear contacts everyday but wanted glasses so I could take them out in the evening, etc. I got mine at Wal Mart. My frames were $52 and the lenses were $70 so $122 total. I would buy from them again in a heartbeat.

My parents (who are both retired and on very limited income) recently bought their glasses at Walmart. They were both very pleased with the low price and the quality. I will probably be getting new ones later this summer, and I'm planning to compare prices between Walmart and Costco.

I have not had good luck with them. They gave me an inaccurate prescription for glasses and then would not correct it. I have bad astigmatisms in both eyes (known before I went to this doctor). He didn't even notice them. I noticed that my vision was fuzzy. Another doctor (at the same store) later examed the prescription and was shocked at how inaccurate it was. They wouldn't correct it either without me paying for it. Great. The same thing happened to a friend of mine. These were at two different Walmarts in different states. It makes me very leery of using them.

I now have good vision insurance and can go to a a good optomestrist. I was amazed at the difference in exams. He usually spends and hour and a half doing just the eye exam and I can see so much better. My friend who doesn't have vision insurance goes to him to get the exam and then orders her glasses through one of the cheaper stores. She still only spends about $150.00 total.

The last time I bought glasses about 3 years ago, I got my regular pair through my optometrist's office since that was covered under my VSP.

I did buy my prescription sunglasses from Wal-Mart though. I think the total cost was something like $100 and that was for polycarbinate lens including the tinting, I haven't had any trouble with the lens scratching, unlike my more expensive regular glasses that have scratched a couple times.

Overall if you want to be able to go in a see what you're getting as far as frames and such and not pay an huge sum, Walmart does pretty good for glasses.

I got a pair at Walmart for 139. which included clip on sunshades. I later found similar item 2/$99. at Four Eyes so I dont think I got the best deal at Wally World. :smokin: :smooth:

When I was without insurance I bought mine from wal mart and had no problems. My sister bought her glasses from wal mart years ago and she still wears them everyday without any problems.

This is good advice. I was in the business for over 20 years... going cheap is okay as long as you get your new glasses checked by your doctor before you wear them. It is customary for your Dr to check them free of charge.

If there is a problem it is customary for them to redo the lenses until they are correct. If you deal with Walmart, Sams, Costco, or America's they will stand behind their work, as will most independent owners.

We have gotten many pair of glasses at Wal-mart. They have all been fine, but not really all that inexpensive. I do get the kid's glasses there because of the breakage policy. You probably can find less expensive glasses - we go becasue of the convenience.

By the way, my Opthamologist actually suggested going to Wal-Mart because they send the glasses out to be made. He said to Never go to Lens Crafters, etc. that make the glasses on the spot. They make way too many errors. Seems like most of the problems folks are having here are in the prescription, not the actual glasses As long as you already have a prescription, you should have no problem with Wal-Mart.
