anyone ever plan large group travel....airfare?

Just curious if anyone else has done this. I am planning a school field trip to Disney World (can you believe it??!!!! My students are dying to go cuz all I do is dream of Disney all day and they want to share it with me!!) and am curious about how much the airfare goes down (if any) towards the end of August. Right now for a group of 20-40 flying from Syracuse to Orlando is $360 per person. They want a $40 non-refundable deposit and the balance paid in July, which I thought was an extremely reasonable request. Just wondering if anyone else has done a large group trip at this time and if the airfare ever decreased as the timeframe drew closer. I decided not to go through a travel agent as I know how to 'do' Disney (the Dis way is better!!) better than they would and they would charge me for the priviledge of telling me less than I already know!! Anyway, any experiences with group airfare. Thank you!!

Group airfare gives you better payment terms. Unlike regular airfare you're usually allowed to change passenger names.

The fare can be more expensive than booking individually, over several flights. Airlines don't generally offer enough of the lowest priced tickets on a given flight to cover an entire group.

THanks. That is sort of what I wanted to know. That is exactly what I'll tell the parents if they question me about lower prices during that timeframe. Thanks for the quick response!
