The fastpass machines do eat tickets frequently but there is a CM that is assigned to that position that is able to open the machine up and get the ticket back out. No worries, it is not gone forever.
If you have an AP or PAP, you can just have it replaced by showing ID. I think the resort front desk could replace a UPH.
If you have a park hopper or park hopper plus, it's good to have a photocopy because they can trace the serial #, cancel it and issue a new one. If you don't have the serial #, you are out of luck if you lose it.
I didn't have a problem with the machine eating the passes, but beware that it is very easy to forget one in the machine . I left a UPH ticket in the machine and fortunately the desk at the hotel was able to run my other passes through and could tell which one was missing, cancel it, and issue me a new one.
We never lost it in a machine, but my son left with six and came basck with five. Didn't know the photostat trick then. I ran back to the FP machine like a crazy woman and there was a very nice CM holding my pass. We always count them when we are finished now and keep a photo copy in the room. Gina
I keep a copy of the backs in my camera case and leave one with someone back home. By having the backs you can figure out what ticket number you lost and Disney can put a "stop" on the lost one and will issue a new one. (It is like a check stop payment so noone can use it which is why they will give you a new one)
Last year on the Haunted Mansion ride the machine ate my ticket. In a panic I found a CM who was kind enough to get it back out for me. Then she quickly put a bag over the machine so no one else used it. It kind of throws you when your valued ticket doesn't come back out!
I went to get FP's at Primevel Whirl back in May and found someone's Park Hopper ticket with charging privileges sitting there in the slot. I looked around and found a CM to give it to. He said it happens all the time.
My moms got eaten last time we went but we just waited until the CM came and got it out =) CM's are usually stationed there, but it just happened that they were short staffed that day and no one was so another CM called for someone.
Don't know if this applies to one day tickets but when I bought my PHP at a local Disney Store, I was given the usual receipt and a special one for the pass. It has all the needed ticket information on it so it the pass is lost, I can just use that to get a replacement (or so the CM told me). I did make a copy of that receipt to leave at home as an "emergency" back up plan.
Always count your fastpasses and tickets after getting the fastpasses! I left my dh's ap in the fastpass machine at Splash Mountain once. Luckily it was easily replaced. They had record of it being turned in by the CM.
But with ap's you can just have them replaced if you have your ID.....had to do this in May when we realized as we were driving through Jacksonville that we forgot to pack the passes! Thankfully I remembered how we got the other pass replaced easily and didn't panic and turn back. I just told dh "they'll replace them" all the while worrying that one of us would have to drive home and back! It was not a problem once the CM found us in the computer.
I really don't know about the other passes....but I guess we'll find out. We plan to get park hoppers next year....so I'll have to be sure to make a record of the serial numbers....and put it in several places, the house, the van, the diaper bag....LOL
Yes, they can eat your ticket. This did happen to me. I was at Buzz Light Year ride. But don't worry, There is a CM standing by. Just tell them and they will open up the machine and give it back to you. Beleive me, my mouth drop open when it took my AP ticket and would not give it back.
