If we go to the YC for our HM, we will only be able to afford a standard view...

What did you think of your standard view at the YC?
What actually did your room face? (parking, garden, etc.)
Was this resort 'worth it' being in a standard room?

THANKS for your opinions!

We loved our standard room at the YC. :) We don't typically spend a lot of time on the balcony anyway, so it didn't bother me to have no real view. Our room faced out toward the front of the resort... but all we could see were trees. I could hear the bus when I was out there, but with the sliding door closed I couldn't hear it at all. :)

I would definitely stay at the YC in a standard room again. The resort is beautiful, there are a lot of dining options, and it's so close to Epcot and MGM. :) Oh, and of course Stormalong Bay is awesome! :)

I think the YC is a GREAT choice for a HM! It's an awesome resort! We've had a standard view on 3 visits & never been disappointed. We always request the lake side with a garden view. Twice we've had a lovely view of the wedding gazebo & once we overlooked the walkway to the boat dock, so we could sit on our balcony & view Illuminations. Check out the YC/BC FAQ thread - there's a floor layout with specific room numbers. I use it to request a block of rooms in the area I'd like to stay in when I fax my request. We prefer YC over BC due to the balcony size. Also, I think the YC is less noisy than the BC. SAB can't be beat & it's great having the BW just over the bridge. Congrats on your upcoming marriage!:D

I had a view of the gazebo, in one of the internal courtyards on the Lake side of the resort. If I leaned over the balcony rail, I could actually see the water without having to pay for it. If you request a courtyard view, you'll improve your chances of getting a room away from the busses and parking lot.

Ironic thing is that I faxed in my request on 9/10/01. By the time I arrived on the morning of the 15th, all of WDW was so quiet and uncrowded I probably could easily have gotten any view I wanted.

We had a Standard View room at our stay to the Yacht Club last month. Our room this time was classified as Parking lot view, but most of what we could see was the trees, lawn and river that is in front of the hotel. The only resorts we pay for a premium view is the Contemporary, and of course Animal Kingdom Lodge.

We love the Y&B resorts, SAB can’t be beat and walking to your special entrance into EPCOT is great. I like the décor of the Yacht Club better, but The Beach is closer to the entrance to EPCOT. When you stay there you must get “The Kitchen Sink” at “Beaches & Crème” it’s an adventure in itself!

Yep, we've had a standard view a few times, and the view was fine. Do go to the Y&BC Forum within the resorts forum and look for the floor layouts. It will show you exactly which rooms are standard, waterview, etc.

What a great resort for a HM! Great location, and very romantic!!princess:

Three times. Had a view of lake/gazebo first time -- thought I had been upgraded. Front parking area second time -- not big deal, but we were not on our honeymoon. Upgraded to Epcot view third time -- my dh's birthday.

Make sure to send a very nice fax telling the room assigner how excited you are to be spending your honeymoon there and that you want it to be as special as possible and will appreciate any special touches or room upgrades they can provide. Don't be demanding, say thanks, etc. That's how we got our Epcot view.

Some of the resorts are no longer receiving faxes for room requests. Be sure to call CRO and add it to your reservation and then discuss options with the front desk when you check in.

We returned from the YC Dec. 24th. I asked for the Gazebo view as always with our standrad room and was told this wasn't a standard room view!
She did give us a nice quiet room. It overlooked the tennis courts and partial view of the quiet pool. I swear the resort couldn't have been very busy, there was no one around. We checked in on Sunday and checked out Christmas Eve. I think they could have given us that Gazebo view!
The only standrd rooms I don't care for are the ones in front of the busses.

and a standard room you will have" is what the lady at the front desk told us after we explained it was out first stay there and wanted the best view possible. We overlooked a gravel roof of a service entrance. But they did use two different colors of gravel and put it down in a diamond pattern. This was a slow week before Thanksgiving this past year. We were also at the end of a "endless" hallway........No magic there......

We had booked 3 standard views and had requested on our reservation garden view/lake side. We were happily upgraded to lake view and a wonderful view of Illuminations - all 3 rooms together! It was absolutely wonderful. The staff here really were wonderful and we all felt very special the whole time. I just about cried when we entered our room and saw the view!

BTW - we never faxed our requests. We just had them placed on our original reservation and hoped for the best - the best it was!
