Anyone ever had trouble at 11 months at Thanksgiving?

Just bought at SSR-first time buying DVC. Although we will travel at off times most of the time, next year we are considering going at Thanksgiving, with BIL/SIL and family, that's when they go (school-aged kids). Anyways, has anyone ever actually had trouble booking at their home resort 11 months out at Thanksgiving? We are thinking of going the weekend before Thanksgiving to SSR until Thursday, then on to VB on Thanksgiving and through the weekend? How how will it be for me to get a 1 bdrm at Vero for Thanksgiving and the following weekend at 7 months?

We bought at OKW in May 1996 and took our first trip home Thanksgiving week of that year. We were able to get a 2 BR unit without any problem. Since then, we have vacationed on all or part of Thanksgiving week four more times. Some years were booked at exactly 11 months and others sooner, but before the 7 month window. We always had success getting a 2 BR. We were never able to switch to BWV or VWL at the seven month window, however. With that in mind, you may want to make your SSR reservation for the whole vacation period, so if you can't switch to VB at seven motnhs, you can have the home resort to fall back on.

Not at the 11th month - I got the standard view studio plus one year for Thanksgiving at BWV - that was when you still get the studio plus and they would honor it when you checked in - I have heard that now it is only available for parties of 5....

I can't really comment on Vero....but I was surprised that we were able to get a studio at VWL for last Thanksgiving on less than 7 months notice. Actually, I've been pleasantly surprised at how easy its been to get short notice reservations, as long as I'm somewhat flexible. I just called yesterday to add a Saturday in early Dec at OKW....availability is limited, but they had the room I needed. Last year I also called at about this time and got 3 days at OKW in a 1 br for the same time of year.

I still always call as soon as possible if I have plans that I want to go exactly a certain way....but like I said, I've been pleasantly surprised at how easy its been to book on shorter notice. Its not something I ever really expected to do.

We have been staying at VWL starting the day after Thanksgiving right thru the following week since we purchased DVC in '01. We closed in early Feb that year and had to waitlist for the early December dates when making our reservations 10 months in advance. Since then we have booked at 11 months and haven't had any problems. We were even able to split trips and make reservations at BCV at the 7 month mark....................but that was most likely due to the fact that it wasn't sold out and now that it is I'm sure it will become difficult to get reservations at the 7 month mark for that timeframe.

If you make reservations at 11 months you shouldn't have any problem.

We booked our first trip to BCV at 7.5 months out for this Thanksgiving. No problem!
