Anyone ever had a thyroid with zero function?

I can sort of see why they told you this. You have the condition "hypothyroidsim", however, you've been overmedicated, your TSH is undetectable, so you are currently very, very HYPER. But this HYPER is medication induced and is not a condition you have.

As for the PCPs office, it is a rare PCP that REALLY, REALLY understands the thyroid.

An endocrinologist would probably not get as freaked out. Believe me, tons of thyroid cancer patients are routinely put at a TSH of 0 and no one is too freaked out by it. I'm not advocating it for you, just letting you know that it's not dire. It is a big deal; however, for your heart to pounding.

Back in 2008, I inexplicably got overmedicated (without my dose changing--maybe it was just some fluke with the batch of meds I was taking). I was having heart palps all day and all night. Went to the cardiologist and got it confirmed but told they were harmless. My doctor didn't think my TSH was low enough to cause it but it had dipped down to 0.09. I'm more comfy at around 0.3. Very small changes in TSH make a huge difference in things.

Ok, that makes sense. See - you explain it SO much better than the doctors and nurses I have dealt with about this!

I have been telling my PCP about my heart issues since I have been here but with all of the other issues going on he didn't really know what to do with it. Glad to know we have a reason why.

As for the batch of meds you mentioned - a Pharmacist friend of mine mentioned to me once about being careful about generics of thyroid medicines because some of the inert ingredients can vary so much and even the dosage amounts are sometimes off. He recommended to ALWAYS get the name brand but of course my insurance won't pay for it so I get the generic and hope for the best. Hmmm....

This is true. I always get a brand name. I started out on Synthroid but then did develop an allergy to one of the fillers. I now take Levoxyl because it does not have that particular filler in it. I've been taking it for many years. It is the same price per month (on my insurance) as generic=$10. You might check into using that brand. You will then be able to get the brand name and stick with it each month.

I sometimes worry about the flucuations of my "batch" only because I'm pretty much forced by my insurance to do mail order. I think the meds hold up fine October through April. When I have to order through the summer I worry about heat affecting them as they are very sensitive to that.

I lost part of my thyroid in 2002 when I had parathyroid surgery. For several months, my labs were all over the place, and my endo told me to wait it out.

After almost a year, things did settle down. My TSH routinely runs 50 to 80, myT3 and T4 very low, well below the low end of normal.

As odd as this sounds, I find exercise helps me the most. I find it helps with the fatigue and cold intolerance a lot. Since it also helps prevent bone loss, I get a bonus.

I do find that just skipping one morning round with my treadmill makes me lethargic all day until I go exercise.

My heart is fine, the hair loss was welcome as I had way too much to begin with.

I did not want to have to manage it with medication.

I don't think what works for me would work for everyone, but 8 years this way had gone very well.
