Anyone ever get nervous about WDW? i.e. security issues?

Just wondering how everyone feels about going to WDW and our current world affairs. The traveling and the accommodating of thousands of people in one area makes me a bit nervous about terrorist attacks and the like. What security precautions does Disney make? The checkpoint at the beginning of the park seems pretty lax.

I worried a bit right after 9/11, but I worried about everything then. I've become fatalistic these days...when it is my time I'll go, and I can't get too worked up about it anymore.

I live in the DC area, so I guess I've gotten used to potential threats.

I was at Disney during 9/11 and was not worried at all. Disney is too spread out. There are too many other places that more damage could be done (not wishing it on anyone). I have faith that I will be kept safe and if not then it might be my time. Disney has your best interest at heart. Without us there would be no Disney. I remember on the radio after 9/11 the DeeJays down here in South Florida would emphasize to not give up living by being afraid. Life is too short.

I have no qualms about going to Disney. I just kept an eye on my surroundings, whether it's at Disney or at the ball park or the mall. I'm certainly not going to change my plans out of fear of what could happen. The terrorists aren't going to terrorize me into changing how I live my life! So go to Disney, have a great time. Everything will be fine:hippie:

Although WDW tends to be an "icon" -- I really doubt in the scheme of things it is a potential target. As another poster mentioned it is too spread out.

Like "addicted to WDW" living in the DC area you have a tendency to feel more vulnerable in DC then at WDW. I feel absolutely safe at WDW.

Disney really is spread out and would be real hard to have maxmum impact in an attack.

I was in the DL area during 9-11 and went to the park on 9-13.

Living close and working around the DC area as well ( Heck just living in B-More City) has really made me aware of my surroundings ,so I don't really worry at WDW for that type of thing.

Could something happen ,yes ,but so could some nut job wanting to carjack me as I drive down any street here just as easy.

I was thinking about how safe I feel in my small town and our upcoming to WDW trip now that the talk of potential terror attacks is in the air again. Then, on the news, it was mentioned that Charlotte is a major banking city with several national bank headquarters. There are also several nuclear power plants in the area, one of which is about 50 miles from us. Then there is Ft. Bragg and Camp LeJeune, all of which could be possible terrorist targets. Suddenly WDW seemed a heck of a lot safer than my cozy living room.

I don't mean to sound critical or harsh. BUT this is exactly what terrorist want to accomplish. They may not attack us ever again but if they can "instill fear in Americans" they have accomplished what they want to. They want to instill terror in our lives.

Try to let it go and have a magical trip.

I feel very safe there, I just get worried about being run over by a stroller :lmao:

I agree with the Other Poster who said why are we reacting this way...it's exactly what the terrorists want.

I feel safe anywhere in the US.

I've also been in a horrid car accident and know that it was not my time to die that day. So, there is nothing I can do when it's "my time".

Enjoy WDW. It's the best place on Earth.

Do not let the terrorists win by worrying about your safety. You have a better chance of being struck by lightening.

Most of what Disney does for Security is not noticable to Guests and definitely not discussed publicly. The uniformed Security people are just the tip of the iceberg.

i grew up having the reagan administration frightening me every day with the threat of a nuclear attack and how all soviet people were evil. it had to take very special episodes of 'head of the class' to try to re-educate the american people as to the reality of things.

no, i'm not frightened of going to WDW. that's not what terrorism is about. terrorism is about being afraid to step outside your home.

I agree w/ the other poster's...I live in a smallllll town in NC, in a very rural area...(everyone on my "street" has 5 acres of land or better, and all 6 houses on my side of the street are my DH's aunt's, uncles or first cousins...talk about a comfort zone:rotfl2: ) at first I was feeling super cozy myself...but POPE AFB is 20 minutes away, Ft Bragg is 25-30 max, and there's a nuclear something or other about 40 minutes north of here...so anything could happen at any time.

Don't be afraid to live...when 9/11 happened I was a flight attendant for American Airlines, I watched the attacks from my sofa because I was on maternity leave. It took me a long time to get back to my normal routine and to go back to work. Live and enjoy your life as much as possible:flower3:

I grew up on an Army base in a foreign country before the Reagan administration where we dealt with very real threats on a frequent basis. Even as young children, we were taught due diligence. Be mindful of your surroundings. Be cautious, but not withdrawn. We were trained how to notice the littlest thing that was out of place and to calmly report. That way, when the bomb scares came in (and they did), the reaction was NOT terror, but calm and order.

I think the same applies to WDW or anywhere. Be aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious activity. Also know that no matter what, if someone enters your space with evil intent, there may be absolutely nothing you can do about it, whether it's WDW or your own local mall. You just have to continue to live your life as best you can, but with due diligence.

I have confidence in Disney and their security team. They definitely try to keep things quiet and make people feel comfortable and carefree rather than scared. I'm from just outside of NYC and around here most people have decided that we have to keep living our lives and going on vacation, using the subway, etc. or we let the terrorists win. My best friend lives in downtown Manhattan and it wasn't easy for me to start taking the train into WTC but eventually I did it because life goes on. So go have fun and know that Disney is doing everything possible to keep you safe!
