Anyone ever fantisize about this?

Thats cool! Well we are booked in a standard room and my only request really is that we have bunk beds...I have already called Disney to have them put that request on file and I was also planning on calling like 10 days out to add the request again, but I also just heard that they have recently updated their online check in to add the option of bunk beds so I will be selecting that option. I also just joined Touringplans.com website and they have a room request section which is AWESOME! I basically was able to look at all the views of each room type and see which rooms already have bunk beds and let touringplans know and they will send AKL a fax 5 days before our check in date with the exact room that we would like to be in. Now with AKL even if you book standard there is still a chance to get a partial Savannah view if you book the Kudu Trail section so thats what I put on my request form through touringplans. Now I know nothing is ever a guarantee but I feel a heck of a lot better that I am doing everything I can do be able to get those bunk beds, LOL

The only request I ever make is early check in since I drive down and usually get there around 2:30 and do split stays so am ready around 7:30 or 8 to move to my next resort. When I book I book the category (standard, garden, water, etc) and frankly I only book something other than standard if standard is not available at the time and if later before I go standard becomes available at a good enough savings, I'll switch to that. I've learned with a deluxe resort as long as I have a balcony to sit on, I really don't care what I'm looking at and in the moderate and value resorts, the view doesn't matter since they have the outside corridors and I don't open the window and I'm capable of walking so paying for preferred is just a waste of my money.

I was once upgraded from a standard room at BWI to a Cottage Suite (which is Club Level). It happened at check-in. I was completely floored - definitely didn't expect it! I never fantasize about it, though. I know upgrades like that are rare.

I've been upgraded several times over the years. Having stayed at all the deluxe resorts from my experience I have found the best chances for upgrades are at The Grand Floridian and Contemporary Resorts. I've been upgraded at the Grand 4 times and Contemporary twice (both to club level and never have I asked).

 I admit it - I fantasize that we're walking in, get to the desk and the CM gets a big smile on his face and says "have we got a surprise for you folks... Happy Graduation, Anniversary and Birthday!" then we're whisked away to our CL suite in the Contemporary....
I know it'll never, ever, in a million years happen to us - but as so many say: "a girl can dream, can't she?"

Just a gentle note to those who say, "just book the category you want". Not all of us have the liberty of doing that - and I'm not complaining, but it's a reality. So please consider cutting those of us who once in a while give in to the fantasy of a little Disney Magic giving us something we don't expect and being handed a surprise a little slack, and let us dream, I know I'd be grateful.
This is a bucket list trip for my family. The fact that we're staying in the contemporary at all is practically a miracle - there is no way that under other circumstances we could afford to "book the level we want". At times, even I have to remember to be sensitive to friends of mine who either a. could never afford WDW in the first place, or b. have to scrimp and save for years just to be able to go, and will stay off site.

Disney hugs all around to the dreamers and the realists :grouphug:

We got upgraded when we stayed at Disney's Hilton Head, so on this last trip to WDW we were all hoping for another bit of pixie dust. lol. So you are not crazy at all!

Not really we are at the Poly now. We just booked FD BB for 15 nights back at pop. We have stayed all levels and my kids prefer pop. My oldest said the pool games here are lame. LOL

I've fantasized about it so this year I booked it! Staying CL Poly first Deluxe and first CL stay!

Now i'm fantasizing about an upgrade to theme park view! pixiedust:

I don't think it's meant as a dig, I know in my case it was not. I was a single mom, we went to WDW every other year because it took me two years to save, going to movies and sneaking in our own candy, sharing happy meals if we ate out, PB&J at the park was usually our entertainment and on the years we didn't go to WDW, we would only take a long weekend somewhere we could drive to from our home and stayed in HI or something like it. I get that it's not always possible to book CL but you book what you will be happy at and if you don't get an upgrade it's still a great trip. If you don't think you will be happy with what you booked, trust me you won't be. Going with fingers crossed that there is some super secret way to get an upgrade just sets one up for an upset. There is nothing wrong with dreaming, heck I dream I win the lottery and can quit work but since I don't play the lottery I don't think that's going to happen. I can afford to book CL but it would mean pinching and frankly it's not worth it for me so I book standard and have had views of the swamp between YC and Dolphin and loved the heck out of it.

We were upgraded at beach club a few months ago and it was amazing. It made the trip for us...we've been going to Disney World for years and this was like the frosting on cake. Don't expect Cinderella to wake you up every day but the little touches can't be matched. For those people who say it was not worth it or I'd never pay for it (all of whom, if I've read correctly, got it for free) I'd say enjoy the experience and go in with no expectations and just let Disney take care of ya. That's why we all go anyways right?

Yes!!! Tired of the posts where people are dreaming/fantasy and people write "book what you want" or "plan and pay for it". We saved for 4 years for our first family trip in 2005, stayed at Pop. Had an amazing time! Son got picked to open HS on his 8th birthday (they gave us a free photo of us standing in front of the Mickey hat). Our situation changed after 2005 and we've gone almost every 2 years. But people skrimp and save! Its fun to dream! We've been fortunate to get TONS of Pixie Dust every trip, and we've celebrated all 4 of our birthdays and also my dd's graduation at wdw. We are about to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary there. Yes, I am dreaming of pixie dust! If we dont get any, we will still be together at wdw!!!

Yes! I have thought the same thing about our upcoming trip to BC. I would not spend the extra $ on CL but it would be an amazing surprise.
For those of you who have been upgraded, did you ask for an upgrade or was it just magically granted?
:tinker:

I am always happy to get what I book. But, sure, just imagining how it would feel to be magically upgraded is cool.
It's not about wishing my holiday was better, my holiday is going to be fab anyway, it's just abut knowing what it feels like to be upgraded, to be granted a surprise extra. It's never happened to me, and I have never had a bad holiday without it, but, the idea of it, is still fun.
Kind of like winning an unpaid for prize, you know you are unlikely to, and not doing so is not making your life worse, but, doing so is still cool.

You said it way better than I could.

That's great, cheaper for you!

We don't book club level because we don't see the value for us. If they upgraded us it would be nice, but I don't ever expected it. Now if we are talking Cinderella castle suite that is what dreams are made of...

We have been upgraded in Disney a couple of times.

Happened to us on our honeymoon many moons ago. We booked the BC standard view. Would;ve have been happy to be staring at a dumpster out our window. When we checked-in, the CM gave us our room assignment..room 5XXX. My eyes lit up. "Umm...5? That's the 5th floor. That's the Club level!" I gasped at her in shock. She winked at me and said "Yes it is. Have a magical honeymoon!"

We had a room with the most perfect view of Crescent Lake and the boardwalk. It was directly above the rear entrance of the BC. It was also an embarassingly tiny room. I mean TINY. But we enjoyed the view and the offerings at the lounge. We grabbed a quickie breakfast every morning. And enjoyed the fresh chocolate chip cookies, goldfish (which we now call "snacky fish" because when we walked in to the lounge with saucer-sized eyes I blurted out "LOOK! They have cookies and soda and...and...those...SNACKY FISH!") and had the CM's laughingly tell us to enjoy as much Diet Coke as we wanted when we "smuggled" several out in our pockets. I swear we were like the Clampetts...

It was nice to try because now we know there is NO WAY we'd ever spend the money to stay CL anywhere. Not worth it to us.

Sure - a girl can dream, right? I know it won't happen to me but I enjoy hearing other's stories about it.

When I was a kid, we did one trip a year and always stayed at the deluxe resorts. Now that I'm grown up with a family of my own...well our budget is more on the value end. lol I don't mind, I'm always excited about Disney and feel blessed to be able to go at all. But back in 2010, we got unexpectedly moved to a 2 bedroom villa at Saratoga Springs while checking in at All Star Sports. It's still one of our favorite "magic" moments, especially since we were on a trip with my in-laws. I mean, we were stoked, but their reaction was priceless! It made their week, and they still go on about it to this day. That definitely planted this little seed of hope always in the back of my mind whenever we go now...but I'm never disappointed when it doesn't happen. Nothing wrong with dreamin', especially at the World!
