Anyone ever done this?

Does Hess only carry beer? I was wondering if they have wine, rum or coolers. We would be going to the one near dtd. Is the gas station easy to find.:)

DH and I don't pay checked bag fees on our airline...last time we went to WDW we were paying OUTRAGEOUS prices for beer at the resort sundries shop. Anyone ever try checking a case of beer and having ME pick it up and deliver it to your room with your bags? It seems like the airlines are ok with it...it doesn't break FAA rules. Anyone else try it? We were ok grocery and snack-wise with what we packed last time so I would hate to have to pay for delivery if I could get the beer there for free!!
I have packed an entire suitcase of groceries to bring to WDW, including beverages. I've also packed a rolling zip-up cooler as luggage.

Luggage compartments are under pressure, so you don't have to worry about the cans exploding. As long as there is no fee to do this, why not?

I've bought groceries in Orlando, and certainly that's better than nothing. But I've found the Orlando grocery prices to be really high, roughly a third higher than what I normally pay. Plus, you never know how much you are going to use. So if you can bring cheap groceries from home, you should. You can even shop for your trip over three or four weeks, buying stuff when it is on special.

The Hess stations carry wine and beer. I have stayed at SSR and BWV and walked to the Hess Stations and got both beer and wine. They have a decent selection (6-7 types of beer and 4-5 wines). There prices are very reasonable are the same as what we would pay in the Phildelphia area. It is a long walk back to both resorts with the additional weight, especially the Hess Station by the Boardwalk, take a stoller or rolling luggage. Luggage can not be put on the Disney buses so you can't take the buses from the DTD stop - which is directly across the street from the Hess Station. It is difficult to cross the street for the Hess Station by the Boardwalk as there are no sidewalks on the Hess Station side. Unfortunately it is downhill to that Hess Station and uphill back to the resort. If you are returning to the Beach Club, you will need to descend a flight of stairs or go into the Boardwalk Resort to descend down a level to the boardwalk itself on your return trip. By the way, there is another Hess Station over by the Magic Kingdom but not within walking distance (or even safe) to access from a resort.

I brought a case of cans in a roller cooler last summer... we were staying in a studio for the first two nights, then changing resorts to a 2BR and didnt want to hassles of transferring 'groceries', we delayed the grocery delivery until we checked into the 2br. So, we packed the beer (taken out of the box, then putting a plastic bag in the rollercooler as a safety net incase of damage) a few snacks and we checked it at the airport and didnt see it again til it was delivered to our room. No issues, all ready to be refrigerated.

We do use wegoshop for our grocery/drinks needs, and are pleased with the service they provide.

Just last Thursday, after returning from Fantasmic, DH and I took our DVC canvas bag with us to the Pleasure Island bus stop at DTD. We walked to the Hess station and bought beer, a 12 pack of Coke Zero, and snacks. We packed these into the canvas bag and returned to the DTD bus stop.

Mission accomplished.
