Anyone ever bite into a mystery item at a restaurant?

Many years ago, DH and I were having pizza at a local place. Something tasted wierd- I flipped my piece over and there was steel wool in the crust!

The owner was one who always would come around and check on you- I let him know and he was MORTIFIED. Apparently there was a new dishwasher who didn't know not to use steel wool on the (mesh) pizza racks.

He comped our meal, gave us free cookies and joked my baby (I was pregnant at the time) would have free cookies for life. DS hasn't been in for a couple years, but was probably 14 last time he went in. Without saying a word, owner hands him a cookie and then takes our order. :)

GREAT service and I'm sad we're not in there more often due to a job change.

Time for a visit, your son needs a cookie. ;) :goodvibes

I was eating popcorn in a movie theater and felt something... weird... in the bucket. It turned out to be a wadded up paper towel or napkin. :crazy2:

I guess it could have been worse-- at least it wasn't a rat!

My daughter was having ravioli at a local diner and bit down on the top part of a nail(like a hammer and nail, not a finger nail) it was like 1/2 an inch long, so weird! She got her meal for free and a bag of free cookies.

We were at a local bar/grill, and I ordered a fruity cocktail of some type, and the waitress brought it with a dead fly floating on top of it. I almost threw up when I saw it. She took it off the bill, and offered me a new one....no thanks!

I could have lived a long time without seeing this thread. Yuck.

Something like this just happened to me. We were at a local restaurant and were given very thin bread (almost like a cracker) with some dipping sauces. One of the sauces was thicker and I dipped my bread into it. As I was eating I though I bit something hard and sharp. I fished around my mouth and pulled out a sharp screw type thing. It was about a quarter inch long. We told the owner and he acted as if I had put it in there. We weren't treated very nicely. Needless to say, we won't be going back!

A few years ago I was eating at some restaurant with my parents. My mom ordered a diet coke, took a sip, and crunched down on something hard. Turns out it was a piece of glass. The restaurant didn't do anything about it and didn't even offer an apology.

About 4 years ago my friend went to Sonic and ordered a milkshake. She took a sip and found a fingernail in her mouth.

Yugh, I could have lived without reading these, but I couldn't look away! :rotfl:

We found a big piece of plastic in a burrito once. It was almost like a fountain soda cap. It was from a drive thru though, and we didn't notice until we were too far away to turn around.

Now I have been on the other side, when I worked at McDonald's we accidentally served something with plastic in it! It was a smoothie, and someone had gone to stir the mix in with a plastic spoon, and apparently forgotten to take it out before they put it back and blended it :scared1:

The biggest problem was it had been a larger batch, about 5 smoothies had been sent out with it since we were behind. (Normally we did them individually) Only one person ever came back though, and that was about 2 hours later, so she was the only one we could help. We felt terrible when we realized!

There was an incident that happened in our area several years ago that made national news: A woman claimed she found a finger in a bowl of Wendy's chili. It turned out she knew a factory worker whose finger had been cut off in an accident. She bought the finger from him (no idea why he still had it), planted it in her chili, and tried to get a huge payoff. Luckily, the finger was traced to its previous owner and the woman was convicted of fraud. The sad part was that people stopped going to that particular Wendy's before the real story came out. Several workers were laid off because the place was hardly bringing in any money.

Back in the 70s, my sister was drinking a bottle of Diet Pepsi and saw something floating in it. My dad poured it out into a bowl, and found a piece of paper. Turns out it was cigarette paper, probably from a cigarette butt that got into the bottle. My dad called Pepsi to report it. A guy came out, brought a case of Pepsi (in cans) and apologized profusely. He took the cigarette paper and said he would look into how it happened.

At work, they order lunch quite a bit. One time there was a piece of green scrubby sponge in my co-worker's salad. Needless to say, they don't order from there any more.

We were, at he Peabody Hotel in Orlando..ordered a huge blueberry muffin with breakfast. I bit down into a piece of glass, that was sideways. Thankfully, I cut the monster in half. Otherwise, I would have cut myself badly. Management tried to blame me, but the idiots found a broken bowl in the kitchen..matched perfectly. I didn't want anything, other than the restaurant making sure, no more muffins (with glass) were served.

I went to a local restaurant many years ago and there was a pebble (yes a small little stone) in my green beans. They were canned green beans, so I have no idea how it could have gotten in there....the restaurant could have cared less. I won't eat there ever again.

!

Right? :lmao:

I don't remember having ever bit into anything - unless I've supressed it due to PTSS. ;)

I do remember, and it wasn't too long ago, pouring a bowl of Frosted Flakes and out comes an earring. Like a hoop style, but it was a traingle. And kinda tarnished, and beat up.

I was completely baffled. My initial reaction was, that it was somehow mine. I mean, how in the hell did this rather large, big metal earring get into my Frosted Flakes. But, it wasn't mine. Then I dumped the bowl, and the box, in the garbage. :crazy2:

We've had a few...

There was a screw in a meal we ordered at a local Mexican restaurant once. I can't remember the outcome, since I was like 6 or so, but I know we haven't gone back to that restaurant much since.

Got a salad to go and split it with my mother. I was very meticulous about getting salad dressing fairly evenly covered...and uncovered a dead roach when Mom was about finished with her half of the salad.

We bought some potatoes from a local farmer a couple of years ago. One of the potatoes had a large rock in it. The potato had grown around the rock, so we didn't find it until we split it open after cooking it. We told the farmer who we had bought it from, and they gave us a bunch of new potatoes (which we weren't expecting...we just thorught it was a fun story.)

I'm not bothered by the inorganic "treasures," but the organic really skeeve me out.

We were at a Carrabba's in IN once and I bit into a pottery shard in my salad (like what the bowls were made of). I was afraid I'd broken a tooth. We told the waitress, who told the manager. He only inquired if I was hurt. No comps, no freebies, no offers to cover a dentist appointment.

I'd also found part of a twistie-tie in a Chinese meal. Other than that, I've been lucky!

I got a huge chicken bone in a chicken salad sandwich once. The waiter was like um ok, now what. I know it can happen but at least don't look at me like you don't know what to do about it, I'm not eating this now!

My dd got served really bad chicken once, thankfully she stopped after one bite because it tasted funny. Considering how young she was, if she ate more she would have gotten really sick. They brought out another plate of different chicken that was funky too and then just comped it. It was a nice local place and it was unusual for them so I wasn't upset and have gone back.

Slightly OT, I got a piece of rubbery plastic in the middle of a loaf of bread once. They comped me with a few free loaf coupons after I mailed it back (they asked me to) turned out something broke off the machinery.
