Anyone ever bite into a mystery item at a restaurant?

I was having lunch with a friend of mine at a local Chinese place. She ordered some hot and sour soup and it came with a huge grub in it. Our meal was comped and lots of apologies.

Slimy yet satisfying?

Cockroaches underneath the cheese on a pizza.

Okay well I'm never eating pizza again. :faint:

Wait, nevermind. I read the rest of the thread. I don't think I'll be eating food PERIOD again. :rotfl:

I remember eating lunch at Friendly's with my mother as a child and she found a huge cocoon in her salad. :scared:

I was eating at a local Burger King years ago and found a piece of metal in my burger. Manager was very apologetic and immediately replaced my burger,

Went to McDonald's drive thru and get a large diet coke. Drinking it in the car, no problem, Get home and pick it up to throw it out and it felt heavy. Take of the lid and find the cap from the dispenser in the cup. Returned it to a grateful manager who comped me with a burger, fries and another soda. Seems that they lose them fairly often but no one had returned one before and the cost around $60 to replace at the time.

I've had more of these go into my cup than I care to think about. 90% of time it was place I was working and the cap thing hadn't been screwed on right and I'm gulity of putting machine togtrher that Am and thinking it was on but it wasn't.

Went to a local breakfast place years ago, I say years ago because I haven't been back since, I bit into a piece of rubber glove.... Ewwwww makes me wonder where the finger was! Lol

I was at Dave and Buster's with my DH a few years ago blissfully devouring my loaded mashed potatoes when I bit down on something that wasn't right. I pulled it out and it was twist tie (the kind that you wrap around bread packages (or a bag of potatoes!). The manager offered me a new side of potatoes and took our drinks off the bill. We promptly paid the bill and left never to return.

A couple of weeks ago DS and I were at our local Olive Garden. DS ordered a cherry coke (as he always does). We were enjoying our salad and DS was half way through drinking his cherry coke when he says "Hey Mom, what's this?" Here it was the top of the grenadine (sp) bottle that they used to make his coke "cherry". We told our server, she picked the glass up, shrugged and said "how did that get in there?" Now my thoughts were that at least DS should have gotten his drink for free, but nope, nothing was comped, just a shrug and a hmmmm. Needless to say, I doubt we go back anytime soon. I mean really, who could have missed that thing coming off in the glass????? It looked like the top they put on bottles of alcohol to pour them. :confused3

those tops pop off all the time, it's very easy to miss it. Happens when I get drinks at the bar I work at (I am a dance instructor there a few nights a week), I just laugh and give it back.

Oh man, how did I forget this?

Fourth grade. Lunchtime at school. I got fried chicken and you know how sometimes the chicken has like this little "concave" area under it where the bones are? Well - I noticed something darker colored than the caramel colored fried chicken. Turned it over - big, dead, wolf spider.

I didn't eat school lunch for a LONG time.

OK, I.would.have.died......screamed and then died.......I do not do spiders

A couple months ago, a woman I know finished her canned drink (monster I think) and there was a dead mouse in it!! I don't know if they called about it or not but her son was showing everyone the can with the mouse in it. :crazy2: I didn't look.

I've seen this type of story before and I always wonder, that must have been a tiny mouse to get in that can.....lol

i had a thin chicken bone in a pulled chicken sandwich at Jim & Nick's once. the waiter acted like it was completely normal. really? it's normal to have chicken bones in pulled chicken--especially a sandwich? i've never had that happen any other time. all i could think was that if one of my kids had gotten it, they could've cut their throat.

I make pulled chicken, there's always bones in it. the bones are tiny, it's easy to miss them.

Ya, someone cleaned the machine and didn't put them back on right. I worked at Pizza Hut for many years, one of my closing responsibilities was to clean the soda machine, that meant taking off the caps and washing them and putting them back on. I can't tell you how many times I'd come in and see a note from the day manager that I'd managed to not put one on tight enough and it had fallen into a customer cup. LOL Happened all the time. lol

Nothing too gross has happened to me, but a friend had rocks in her salad once, she got her meal comped that night and a coupon for a free meal in the future, so she and I went out and left our kids at home with her DH, she had 5 boys and at the time I had 1 girl.

I bit into a Chips Ahoy about 20 years ago when I was a teen, and bit into soething metal. A man from Nabisco came out to our house, apologized in person and brought us about two dozen boxes of assorted cookies!

Went to a mexican restaurant about 7 years ago and I was eating and got a piece of metal like from one of those mesh metal scrubbies made with strands of metal somehwhat like brillo only MUCH thicker. They promised me everthing under the sun including a free meal but I told them it made me sick to eat.

I once bit into one of those hard plastic pieces sometimes used to close bread products. It was in my salad. It did hurt my tooth at the time, but I was fine after. I didn't say anything to the restaurant. I just set it aside and finished my salad. This was at a little pub/restaurant place near my workplace...not a chain.

Recently, I bought a small pie from the bakery section of a local grocery store. I brought it home and set it on my counter. About two hours later, I cut it open and it was filled with little tiny ants. I immediately tossed it out. It took me a couple of days to get rid of the ants. Let me state that I had not seen a single ant in my kitchen prior to bringing home the pie. I have to assume that they have an ant problem at the store in the bakery area. It has been a bad year for ants in Florida. I've talked to many people who have had issues with them.

The next time we visited an Outback (this one was on the OBX), dad found a roach in his napkin when he unrolled his silverware. The waitress blew us off when we told her, so when I got home I went to their website and complained. Well, the manager called me and pretty much accused us of lying because "they have a contract with a pest control company who visits regularly". His attitude really ticked me off and we haven't eaten at an Outback since.

At the risk of sounding completely uninformed; hasn't it been proven that roaches could survive a nuclear blast (or something like that)? Is it so hard to believe that maybe that roach (and others) have a resistance for the bug spray?

And accusing you of lying about it? As though you would bring along a roach to a restaurant just to have something to complain to the staff about! :lmao:

I bit into a hard candy last year and chomped down (I'm a candy-cruncher) on a steel ball-bearing. It broke my molar into two. Never did find the tooth but I sure found the ball bearing.

Got THE worst sinus infection ever from it.

I was out of commission for three weeks. It was bad.

I sued the company.

They'll make sure it doesn't happen again. :)

The plastic was still on the cheese, half
melted, on my burger at a diner. They comp'd our drinks for that..

....I've heard of ROCK CANDY, but this is ridiculous!

In fifth grade, my friend found a long string of plastic in her mashed potatoes. I never eat school lunch for that reason. Haha! :P
