So has anyone ever been upgraded while staying with points? I was just curious if this ever happened to anyone? :confused3

DH and leaving in 7 days (yippie! :cheer2: ). We have booked our stay at BWV - but had to do some major room switches due to availability and our limited amount of points. We are staying in a studio for the first two nights, a 1-bedroom for the next 4 nights, and back to a studio for the final 3 nights.

DH was wondering if they would "upgrade" us and let us stay in the 1-bedroom for the remainder of our stay instead of us having to move back to the studio. I told I didn't think so...but would ask all of you! :earsboy:

Upgrades on pts VERY RARELY happen. Because DVC is a timeshare the resorts are set up to be booked and available on pts whenever possible. The only time upgrades on pts usually occurr have been when the room booked had to be taken out of service due to maintenance type problems and the resort was at capacity where they could not keep a member in that catagory. But again, it's quite rare.

It is rare enough to be almost non-existant. It would be more likely to get upgraded if it was a cash ressie than with a point ressie.

We were definitely upgraded once at BWV in terms of view. We rented points from a friend, and the view was supposed to be a standard studio. However, we definitely had a preferred view. It was great! We were facing the pool, on a high floor. We really enjoyed that studio...so much so that we bought in via resale a month later

We were upgraded at Boardwalk in our 1/03 trip, but it was because of an error that the room assigner made.
We were supposed to be in a 2br standard view for 3 nights. The front desk gave us keys to a 2br but the lock-off studio was actually being used (not fun at 11:30pm with small children in tow!). So, my dh called the front desk to ask them how they were going to fix this, and they upgraded us to the Grand Villa. That was phenomenal! (Most likely the last time I'll see the inside of that villa, too! lol)

Wow! That must have been great! So them messing up is not necessarily a bad thing! :flower:

We were upgraded from a studio to a 2 bedroom for our May '04 trip to Hilton Head during Mother's Day weekend. We had checked in late on a Friday (around 7 PM). The lady at the front desk said sometimes they overbook during the holiday's. Apparently, they didn't have anything but 2 bedrooms available at that point so we got lucky. Our stay was four nights and they let us stay in the 2 bedroom the whole time!

It is rare, esp if staying on points, and is essentially only going to happen for a specific reason. Either the unit is out of service or for compensation for a problem. When they were redoing the outside of BWV, many were upgraded from standard to preferred and some of those got a 1 BR instead of the studio reserved. But there have been at least 2 reports I know of, both at BCV, that went the other way to an extend. I'm a little fuzzy on the details but in both cases they got to BCV and were told they were overbooked. In one case, the owner was told since they were an OKW owners they were being rerouted to OKW instead. It was reported in such a way that gave them the impression they were less important than the other owners. I think both families complained and one ended up in an OKW GV and the other at BWI in a deluxe room with concierge. And I think both got at least part of their points back in addition.

I agree that it's rare...I also remember someone saying one time that they were "upgraded" to a 2br at the BC because their room at BCV was not avaiable...the only reason the story sticks with me is because they said the 2br at the BC was unbelieveable (as in really deluxe) compared the the BCV 2br.

We were also upgraded to a 2BR at HH last Oct. We had 2 nights in a 1 BR cash and 2 nights in a 1BR on points. Well when we got there they told us they were upgrading us to a 2br since occupency was low, and I got all panicked because I knew we were switching to a room on points in a couple days. But they let us stay in the 2BR all trip.

We were at the Contemporary Resort last week on points (and two cash nights). Our first cash night was a different code than the other 6 nights (a bit higher coded room). When I asked if we might be able to stay in the same room for the entire trip, the CM at the desk told me that they never up grade DVC point stays because it causes problems with the accounting. So we were in one room for the first night (we kind of expected that, though) and another for the last six (those all had the same code).

Add us to the list of mistake upgrades. It was a good/bad story. We booked a trip at OKW Grand Villa to take some of our family that was never to WDW. It would have been our first and only trip in a Grand Villa.

Less then 30 days prior to arrival, we got a phone call saying that the building we would be staying in was due for a huge renovation. They offered us 2 two bedrooms and of course could not guarantee that the rooms would be next door or even close together.

They were very sorry but we were CRUSHED. But they did make it up for it. We wound up having to only pay the points on the 1 two bedroom and they were right next to each other.

yes...........we got a bungalow at the MAuna Lani in Hawaii about 3 yrs ago.............it was great.

In may we were upgraded to a 1 bedroom from a studio BUT that was only because the room we were supposed to get was taken out of inventory for an unspecified to us anyhow reason.

Didn't happen to us (although we were there), but some friends of ours got upgraded to a 1BR from a studio at BWV in February of this year. It was a standard view 1BR and they had a preferred view studio booked.

Wow! That sounds lucky! Did Disney give them a reason for the upgrade?
