anyone ever been on a ride when it broke down???

How long have you got?!! Whenever we go to the world with my dad, Bob, 68, we DO NOT under any circumstances let him ride with us!! In 2001 we were stuck on top of Splash Mountain, in the rain, for nearly 30 minutes until the cm's decided it would not re-start, so we were led back down through the mountain... but get this, we were not offered fast passes to ride again or anything!!. (and we were told off by cm's for putting umbrellas up in the logs whilst waiting at the top!!)We hopped to MGM and, with dad, attempted R & RC... it broke down as we were loading and did not re-start. We tried again the following day without dad, had a great ride then returned with him to ride ("you gotta try this dad!") ... it broke as we left the pre-show. Later that week he managed to get Test Track to fail, so now we leave him to do his own thing!! Mike.

We visited EPCOT a few weeks after it opened in 1982, and several of the rides broke down for various lengths of time while we rode. The two that I remember being the main culprits (several stops over multiple times on the rides) were Spaceship Earth and World of Motion. Of course, now that Test Track has replaced World of Motion, we've been stuck on that ride twice as well.

Back in 1993 my husband and I got stuck on Horizons at the part where you "fly" through space. We were there about 10 minutes. I was getting a little sick looking at the flying stars. We finally got moving again.

March 2002 we got stuck on Splash Mountain during an e-ride night. I didn't have a watch, but I would guess it was at least 30 minutes or more before they got us out of there. They kept repeating, stay in the logs, we'll come get you. Many got out of the log and started walking. Finally someone came by and lead us out. We popped out through a side door 1/2 way up the mountain. Kinda cool! As we stepped out, I noticed (from the height we were at) all the floats for the parade in their storage area. I quickly snapped a picture. The CM had a fit. I said sorry, I didn't know you couldn't take a picture and offered to mail it to him. I thought he was going to conficate my camera! He didn't and as it turns out, the quality of the picture is such that the only person who would know what it was is probably me LOL. Really put a damper on our e-ride night though. Overall, it probably killed over and hour of time.

We have been on the following when they've stopped....
Spaceship Earth....3 times, BTM....1, Test Track...2, Ellen's Universe of Energy...1, PoC...2, TTA..1, IASW.....2, Great Movie Ride...1, Haunted Mansion...4, Splash Mt....1, monorail....1, There may be more but I can't recall them at the moment. And this is just for 3 trips!!!

I already posted this somewhere....but the same goes here...

I went on The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and we got stuck, I was on by myself (I mean no one I knew was on with me) and we were sitting there waiting for another drop and got nothing!!

We were starting to wonder when we were sitting there for about 5 mins, and the scary thing is someone started to sing "It's a Small World" We almost had to kill him!!!

They finally came and got us, they opened a side panel and we all had to climb out onto a ladder!!

We actually were pretty close to the bottom of the ride, so the walk down the ladder wasn't too far....

We were all asking if we could get the picture of us for free, but they said the best they could do for us was let us get right back on....uhhh no thanks!!

I also got stuck on the Haunted Mansion for about 10 mins, but that could have been letting people on or off with wheelchairs, but I was stuck right outside the door with the hand coming out, it started to freak me out after awhile...LOL
But then the ride started to move again, so I guess that one doesn't count since we didn't have to actually get off the ride and walk out.

DH and I got stuck in the cold room on TT. For some reason it wasn't very busy that day and we were in our own car so we sat with the middle seat open between us and there was nobody in the back seat. Unfortunately, we were stuck right under a gadget that sprays an icy mist. Luckily, I stayed completely dry. Unfortunately, our camcorder bag got soaked as did hubby's left arm, shoulder and the top of his head. At first it was funny (since it was him and not me!) but after 10 minutes of constant spraying it wasn't funny any longer. His jacket was soaked and his watch was destroyed. It was a cheap watch but still...... The CM at the end of the ride laughed when he saw my soaked hubby and offered to let us go again but DH wasn't risking it so we declined. I still look back and laugh but DH doesn't find it as amusing as I do! We have also been stuck on SE and HM and each time it was while we were going down a hill backwards. It was actually sort of relaxing! Finally, another time we were stopped in the HM in the attic where the bride is. We were there for close to 15 minutes. I did a HM no-no and took a picture of the bride and she came out completely black and spooky in the pic - almost like a ghost! SPOOKY! Guess that's what I get for not obeying the rules!

I've been stuck on the following:

Splash......several times, the longest being almost a half an hour

TT.....also several times. The longest time was about 20 min.....we got to ride again right away!:D

Spaceship Earth.......a couple of times

We were on Test Track last this year and it broke down. Thankfully we didn't break down in the heat test area. We just sat there for about 5-10 minutes and it restarted like nothing ever happened. My wife and I were on King Kong at Universal in 1992 when it broke down right as Kong was leaning in as if to eat us. I think we were there for about 15 minutes then moved. I think the only thing i don't want to break down on is a roller coaster thats upside down.

We were stuck on Tower of Terror once with a group of teens/young 20s who had decided to ride ToT as a way to overcome their fear of heights! We had just completed the pre-show in the car, it entered the elevator shaft, locked into place, the shaft went black, we heard the glass break and....nothing....for quite a while. After a couple minutes, we heard a voice ask over the loud speaker if we were okay. He told us they were aware we were stuck and were working on it. We continued to sit in the dark not knowing what would happen.

Meanwhile, the group was beginning to panic a bit. DH and I tried to calm them (with the help of others in the car) by making jokes about the situation. After about 5 minutes, they turned lights on in the shaft. After about 15 minutes, they came to get us. They hooked something on to the back of the car and pulled it out of the shaft. They had us unload, and then walked us back to an....elevator, of course...to go back down. As we walked back through the ride to the elevator, the CMs talked with us about the corridor (the holographic corridor), how the effects were done and pointed out the Mickey the little girl holds (and that the Mickey she holds didn't exist in the timeframe of the ride). Those that wanted to ride again (all but the group with the fear of heights) were brought back up to the top to catch the next car.

We've been stuck on many rides, but the ToT glitch was certainly one of our more exciting!

Last year while riding Test Track I was a solo rider in a car of Brazilian tourists. After going through the hot/cold room and doing the fast breaking sequence we stopped. The lights came up and we sat there for a few minutes. Naturally I don't speak Spanish and their intrepreter was busy trying to calm them down so it was interesting. Then two technicians came out and opened up the back hood and started tinkering on our car. They didn't say anything to us then slammed the hood - the lights returned to ride level and we took off. We were riding at night so the fast sequence seemed even faster. To this day I wonder if the tourists thought that was all a part of the ride.

I had finally talked my dad into going on splash Mountain when it broke down on us 4 different times. Once before the lift, twice one the lift (at the very bottom and in the middle) and then again when you get at the bottom and head over around that corner. We of course got stuck where the water was shooting out, so we got more soaked than we thought. My kids thought that was funny though. My dad on the other hand, decided he won't be going on Splash Mountain anymore:(

Two years ago my mom (64) and I got stuck on ToT. It was her first time on the ride. We were at the top where the ride stops and the doors open, then you fall. We got to the doors and nothing happened! We sat there for a while (in the dark). Finally someone pulled out a lighter and shed some light on the subject. No CM's said anything for several minutes, then they said they were coming to get us. We were stuck up there almost 10 minutes. They took us down some stairs, then another elevator. They asked if we wanted to try again. Everyone did! We sat in our exact same seats and had a great time.

Got stuck in Spaceship Earth back in March. My DD and I were stuck for about 15 min, but we were tilted backwards and it was kinda dark...so, yea, I'm not too proud to admit it...I took a little nap. Hey, we were vacationing with the family from He-youknowwhere...I needed a break!!!;)

I was in the last seat and DD was in front of me.
The ride stopped at the crest of the first hill.
The first car was sitting on the top of the hill.....and we were leaning back.
Lights came on after about 20 minutes and the CM came and helped us out of the car. We walked out with all the lights on.

We never made it back to ride during that trip.

DD keeps saying, "I want to go on SM."
I remind her, "You DID go on SM." :p
She replies, "AND FINISH IT!"

Poor kid.

We too got stuck on TOT. It was a pretty new ride and our first time riding it, so DH and I were going to ride it first without the kids. We had DS, 12, and DD, 8, go through the line with us but take the "chicken elevator" to wait for us. DD was already freaked out by the preshow (she hates lightning storms, so it really got to her), but she had her brother to wait with her, so we weren't worried.

Everything went fine through the first drop, then when we got back up to the top, there was a long pause before the next drop. We thought at first that's how it was supposed to be, then the lights came on and we were looking at a concrete wall. A recorded voice said, several times, something about the bellman coming to assist us soon, completely in character with the ride theming! Then finally a live voice said "I don't know what happened, but something tripped the safety mechanism and it won't let you drop. I'm going to lower you down manually."

We went down slowly, very slowly, watching the plain concrete walls pass, with the floor numbers written on them. Finally at the bottom we moved backward and turned and then the doors opened. I thought this technology was all very interesting, until we stepped out and saw our kids! There were a couple of CM with them, reassuring them that we were fine, but DD was in tears, and DS looked like he had been trying very hard not to break down too. DD told us she had been sure we were never coming back!

Needless to say, we did NOT get right back on. However, we did ride it as a family the next day, and the photo of that first family ride is priceless. We are in the back row, DS against the wall, then myself, DD, and then DH Texas Aggie. The photo shows me and DH both looking at DD, who doesn't appear too scared at all. But DS is huddled into the corner, hugging the wall, hanging on for dear life! Guess being a 12 year old boy doesn't automatically make you a daredevil!

One final note: before that first ride, we had talked to a CM on Sunset Boulevard who told us to put a quarter on one knee and watch it rise into the air when we dropped. We did that, but before we got off, we noticed the quarter lying on the floor under the grate. Now, we know that one little quarter falling off someone's knee onto the floor couldn't trip the safety mechanism, but we will never again try that experiment on TOT!

I've been stuck on Test Track right before you go into the room with the truck. I felt bad for the people stuck in the cold room or something. The sounds were all messed up after we stopped so everything was off. One time when I was on the people mover, as we were entering Space Mountain we noticed that the lights were on inside. When we rolled right throught the part inside the dome, we saw the ride with the lights on. It looked soo different in the light and thought we were lucky...lucky to see the ride and not be stuck on it!

You bet!
The first time was in 2000 on BTMRR outside by the little cave. We ended up having to walk out "under" the mountain. We were told "NO PICTURES" and if they caught us, they would take the film. It was cool to see, but I was surprised to see some trash under the muntain!
The second time was this year on Test Track. We were stuck in the "cold" room for about 10 minutes and they never turned off the cold spray, but I could see that the heat lights in the "hot" room were turned off pretty quickly. We did get passes for both things.

We have been stuck on this ride (which I LOVE!) 3 seperate times, on three seperate trips!

Two of the times were in the environment rooms--once in "corrosion" and once in heat (they turned off the heat, but we got a little "corroded" inthe other room!)

The third time a car three cars in front of us blew a tire onthe fast loop. We did the fast loop at a prtty non-fast speed, than waitied at the little hill where you go back inthe building for about 15 minutes while they cleared everything up. They let us ride again, but some folks did get off instead of going again!

Aside from under a minute stops in HM and buzz, thats about it, froma total of about 30 trips!

Space Ship Earth stops occasionally while they load a wheel chair onboard, but I have been on it once when the lights came on. We were near the room where you smell the smoke for about 20 minutes.

The worst one was on Test Track, Outside on a hot day on the highspeed track at about a 30degree angle. after about 15 minutes the ride started up again. They let us ride again.

One of my pet peeves is with Small World; they have 20 extra boats in the ride. It would not affect the number of riders going through the ride if they cut back ten or fifteen boats; there is always a 10 or 15 minute wait to get out of the ride from when you bump the boat in front of you.

Another ride malfunction that tops my list was on Spiderman at US. We stopped, the turned on the lights, fixed the problem but the movie/sound track was way off. We were going up when the movie said we should be going down. DW got so sick we had to stop and get her some Ice Cream...
