Anyone else's trip coming up very soon...

Orlando is probably going to be safer than other places for the next few months. After most shootings whether it's something like Paris/Brussels or like Orlando now. After such an incident, security goes up and everyone is on their guard.

And yes, relax. Whether this was a crime of hate or terrorism, these things always happen in public places. Schools, malls, bars, restaurants, stations, movie theaters have all been targeted in the last years. There is nothing you can do to prevent this and hiding at home in a corner will help no one either.
You can be scared, it is a scary thought, but don't let it rule your life.

We leave in 6 days for the world and it never even occurred to me to cancel. I am traveling with my daughter for her graduation and what message would that send to her if we cancelled. Yes, what happened is very sad and horrible but if you stop living your lives, they win. My daughter was upset about the murder of Christina Grimmie the night before at her concert in Orlando.

Leaving on Thursday and have zero concerns whatsoever. There are deranged lunatics walking around every town and city. This could have happened anywhere. Just random chance made it happen within proximity to WDW. I don't think it suddenly creates a known danger in Disney and more than there was on Saturday morning.

Guess what. This is the way of the world now. You can either hide under your bed or live. I hate that people act this way but I will not let it end my way of life. You can stay home if youre scared for your family. It is your choice after all.

disney has great security this was discussed on the dis right after the paris attacks probably the nov 17th show if you can find it. companies come to disney looking for advice on security there are undercover police all over the place. orange county police working there day off.we will never be 100% safe but disney is doing everything they can to protect you

There are for more dangerous places to go than WDW. It was a random act of violence, and terrorism rarely strikes the same city twice. That's not effective as they already have heightened security. They are more likely to strike somewhere far away next which makes Orlando (oddly enough) one of the safer places to be right now.

Staying at home is no safer, so you might as well go about your every day life and as always - be aware of your surroundings - that's the most important and effective things you can do. relax and have a good trip!

As someone who suffers from anxiety, I get it. I honestly try not to watch the news too much because it really gets me going. The news is all about putting the bad stories out there, causing fear and panic. I couldn't escape the news yesterday. It was heartbreaking. But, I kept looking at the footage of PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE. There are so many more good people in this world than bad. I know this.

Terrorists want us to stop living our happy, carefree lives. That is exactly what they are setting out to destroy by instilling fear in us to do those things. If we stop, they win. Don't let them win.

And I'm scared to no end. I'm 12 days away from going back to WDW. I already am not a fan of airports/flying, but my fear level went from a 1 on a scale of 1-10 to a 10. I travel by myself, which doesn't make things better or worse, but I'm plain old scared.

I do not have travel insurance on anything that I booked, and so I'm still going... I just feel very different going within 2 weeks of this shooting. Just so many questions... I felt safe when I was there in March, but I'm starting to fear closed spaces now (indoor lines, indoor rides, ect).

I hope I'm not alone in feeling this way. I know I'm not, and I know things like this could happen anywhere anytime. But this was the second shooting in Orlando recently (first was the singer). I know living in fear is not the answer and not living life is also not the answer.

Curious to know who is rescheduling their trip or cancelling, and who is still going?
We leave in 11 days to celebrate my DS's high school graduation. I understand the apprehension, but I refuse to let this put a damper on DS's trip! He was upset about all of this yesterday, but I assured him everything was going to fine and we will have fun!

Leaving in 23 days and it never occurred to me to cancel. I feel like we would be dishonoring the memory of those that lost their lives if we cancelled.

As many have said above: Do not let them win.

We went to Disney a week after 9/11. We were in Disney at Epcot when the Boston marathon bombs went off. Honestly, I think it's the best time to go because everyone is alert and security is tightened. We just seem to always have trips booked around these things, and it never occurred to me to cancel.

My son and I fly down in 29 days and my hubby will meet us there in a few more days. We have been down by ourselves several times and never have I been afraid! I know they have very tight security and I know they are looking out for there guest safety!

Going in 2 days. I will be honest...I am more nervous than I have ever been. Just think it is SO close to my happy place. The ugliness really CAN pop up anywhere.

Still going, though...

We are going in September and DH brought up 2 things-we will be there during Night of Joy(concerns about it being a Christian event) and we are flying home on 9/11. I'm not worried over either of those things. I feel like we will be very safe at WDW.

However I have to admit that I'm nervous over a trip I have to take next week for work to Philadelphia, but I have to go.

To not go means we have stopped living our lives freely.

People keep talking about not letting "them" win, but I don't know why. The hundreds of mass shootings and attacks that have taken place in America over the last 15 years have carried out by lone wolves or pairs of U.S. citizens or legal residents with no formal training from outside organizations, and by people of varying religions and colors.

This person was specifically targeting homosexuals. Instead of spewing his hate from a pulpit or from the floor of a state house, he did it with an AR-15. There is no reason to be any more concerned about an attack at Disney in the wake of this than there would be at any other time.

Bottom line, be alert always. These types of massacres can happen anywhere - schools, movie theaters, military bases, etc.

Go to Disney. Don't be afraid to travel. Be more concerned about what we have become accepting of as a "normal" occurrence in this country.

The behavior you will witness during Night of Joy is decidedly some of the most un-Christian behavior WDW has ever seen. :rotfl:

On the topic of the thread: I would never even consider cancelling a trip due to an act of terror. It's exactly what the terrorists would want, and exactly what the victims wouldn't.

We arrive July 2. We're a little worried with what's just happened combined with our biggest patriotic holiday but hope Disney ramps up security.
We arrive then, too. I am concerned, but going.

We leave Thursday morning.
I'm not worried even an iota.
Not about flying, not about going to Orlando, not about going to Disney.
I do not live in fear or looking over my shoulder. I can't control actions of others, only myself.
I don't think living in fear is any way to live.

We got married 9/22/01 and honeymooned the week after at WDW. Security was still heightened but we weren't scared of anything happening.

We have our August trip scheduled and have no plans to cancel. We won't live our lives paralyzed by fear. We will be vigilant, we will be aware of our surroundings, and we will live our lives.

Edited to add that Disney has a lot of security that you don't see. You're safer there than most other places.

We leave this Friday night (driving down).
I survived both WTC attacks ('93 and 9/11) so honestly, this has been my life for over twenty years now...not afraid in the least.
Hold you heads high and enjoy your vacations everyone!
