Anyone else worried about the new Pirates?

I was just reading how they've not only put scenes from the movie into the ride, but actually changed the story of the ride. That makes me very sad. Instead of the story being about pirates who sack an old Spanish village, it's now about pirates trying to beat Captain Jack to the treasure. The music has also been changed.

I for one will be very disappointed if they get rid of certain scenes like the opening with the waterfall, the skeleton on the pirate ship, the scene where the pirate is auctioning off women to the locals.

Anyone else feel that way?

I sure hope it hasn't changed much. I haven't been to WDW in 10 years now but PotC is my favorite ride there.

It's a classic. They better not have messed it up!

I'm sure i read that they have kept the scenes as was, just added to them, we're all just gonna have to wait and see, not long now and then I'm sure we'll see the improvements/damage all over the place.

BTW, jut saw Bon Jovi last weekend over here in the UK, and they were awesome, "have a nice day" at the shows :thumbsup2

From what I read on a report about the changes are all positive .

The are even reverting he Pirate / girls chase sceen that they changed to make it more politically correct.

Heres hope and I will report if it's open on the 1st or 2nd .

Everything i read said they were just adding movie characters and minor changes. I don't think there will be major changes.

That would be awesome. I used to love that.

As long as the don't mess with my dirty footed pirate, I'm cool. :teeth:

(I'm still pretty ticked about how they TOTALLY screwed up the Tiki Room, so I do have some concerns . . . )

I think what they're doing is what Walt would have said "let plus it"....

View the History's Chanel - 2 hour program on WDW, it comes on again 6/30/06 in the evening.

I'm not a fan of tinkering with the classic attractions and the idea they 'updated' Pirates to fit the movie theme horrifies me. I don't necessarily buy the idea they felt they had to because children of today wondered where Cpt. Jack Sparrow was. Do I now need to worry about Eddie Murphy jumping out at me in the Haunted Mansion? That would be truly frightening.

I reserve judgement on Pirates until I see it, but the whole idea of 'updating' the classics (which is really just adding merchandising) doesn't appeal to me at all. It's a real loss.

I hope they didn't change it too much. POTC is my favorite ride and I want it to stay as it is. If they add a few characters it's alright, but please don't change the scenes or I will be extremely dissapointed.

I was very upset when I heard they were messing with Pirates. I expressed this over a month ago and no one agreed with me.....it's nice to see now there are people who agree that there's something wrong with messing with a Walt Disney classic.

Wasn't that a wonderful show?! Hadn't seen it before and I thought I had seen all of the specials on WDW.

My only concern is that POTC won't open on July 1 since we'll be leaving before the 7th!

They're definitely keeping the waterfall...if they didn't, they would have to re-landscape the entire entrance. That's not going to happen. Changing the music... I dunno.. As much as I love the score to the movie, how could you replace Yo Ho? I'm a bit frightened, but hopefully it's not as bad as it sounds...

Here is a fairly detailed list of the 'improvements' to be made. (This is for Disneyland, but other than DL having a longer series of caves and 1 more waterfall...once the boats get to the pirate ship/fort scene its basically the same).

Most of the scenes will remain intact. The only scene that is being gutted completely is the very last scene, the treasure room. If I had to pick one scene to redo, that would be the one.

Here are some pictures I plundered from tellnotales.com...

I'm worried, but optimistic.

POTC is one of my favorites. I actually like the music too and hope they don't change it too much. :goodvibes

I am excited about the new POC. This is one of my favorite rides at WDW. As long as they don't change the ride but simply add to it, I will be fine. Can't wait to see the new POC in Oct.

I heard a rumor that they will be offering a few soft open shows beginning July 1st. We were able to catch the soft open for Mickey's Phil...(the 3D show) back in 2003.

Totally agree!!! I hope they didn't do too much "updating" either. I like the classic ride, I like the "politically INcorrectness" of it, I like it NOT being "commercial". Don't get me wrong, I too will "wait and see", but I am a Disney traditionalist -- "if it ain't broken"............... KWIM!!!!

I'm thrilled that it's being updated. I love the movie, so adding Captain Jack is a huge plus for me. I can't wait to ride it in September. It'll probably be one of the first things I head for in MK.

"Not being commercial"? Are you kidding me?! Disney IS commercial! They do commercial best. Capitalism and commercialism are synomonous with Disney.
