Anyone else worried about the new Pirates?

What did they do to the Tiki Room?!?!!!

I think the poster was referring to the original Tiki Room changes. The original was amazing, then they changed it to "under new management" and gilbert godfried (sp) was added...enough said :badpc:

I'll be there on the morning of the opening too, and we will be home from our trip on the 9th too...Guess we'll see who gets on the boards first to report! ...probably some lubber that takes their laptop and reports from a resort on the night of the 7th. Curses!

Or the night of July 1st.

There are many reports that PoC will be re-opening 7/01/06.

We'll be watching and waiting.

I guess I am in a very small minority. I didn't care for the movie and I really don't care for Johnny Dep at all. In fact I can't stand to even look at him. So, I am obviously not excited about it.

JMHO

On the other hand I know my 14 year old sister-in-law is majorly excited about it. She has him plastered all over her wall. When I told her they were adding JS to the ride she was beside herself. :rotfl:

Hehe, yeah I'd have to say you are in the minority on that one, but there's no problem with that! Arrrggggh! pirate:

I am very excited. Cant wait to see the new ride! I LOVE POTC but I am sure the new version will be just as good! There wasnt much of a storyline before anyways. I am also exicted to see new special effects and animatronics there. I am sure that a lot of it will still stay there, it isnt supposed to be a 'new' ride, just a PLUSSED attraction.

(I'm still pretty ticked about how they TOTALLY screwed up the Tiki Room, so I do have some concerns . . . )

ITA!!! Tiki Room used to be one of my favorites. Now it's okay but not one of my must see anymore

But I am looking forward to seeing POC so hopefully they won't have messed with it too much.

Why GG? ugh... I can't WAIT to see the new Tiki Room... :sad2:

When did the rumors start that it would open on the 1st? :confused3 I'll be at MK on that day, but I didn't know about it until just now? Where did you hear that? I had heard that perhaps JD would be there, so we are excited...since we are from KY! I hope he is there! He has made us all very proud here at home! He is a great CJS! :thumbsup2

If they messed it up too much, I have a feeling that the Disney company will be in for quite the unpleasent surprise when people stop riding it because they screwed with it too much. They did the same thing to the Enchanted Tiki Room which basically sucks now. I hate to see it happen to Pirates Of The Caribbean... it's a true Disney classic.

I have also heard that they are just adding to the original. Our Pirates opens this weekend in California so it will be awesome to see what people have to say about it! I CANNOT wait for the new movie to open! :thumbsup2 pirate: pirate: pirate:

I just dont think they could ruin it THAT much.
1: Gilbert Godfried is not in the Pirates movie...
so thats a huge chunk of it.

2: The new ride will not be making fun of the old one. I was seriously offended by those darn cartoon birds giving the notion that the tiki room was boring when the birds just sang. Tiki room was my favourite ride as a kid and I went back at age 14 and this is what had happened! :sad2:

But I am confident that the new additions will just compliment the old ride, after all, the movie included lots of bits from the ride so they arent disrespecting the oringal ideas, ie the Tiki room under new management...

I dont know what gave anyone the idea to mess with the tiki room, but I really do think this new Pirate stuff will be good. It wont be the same but Im sure it will be similar, since theyre just calling it a rehab/update and not an overhaul!

I dont know what gave anyone the idea to mess with the tiki room...

The Enchanted Tiki Room was the very first AudioAnimatronics attraction ever built.

Walt Disney himself had earlier designed and crafted a small mechanical dancing man puppet theater, but it was too complex to build full-scale.

So, Walt and his Imagineeers came up with the idea of building mechanical BIRDS as they are simpler to design and operate.
Mechanical birds had been built for many generations by European and Asian craftsmen with "clock-work" mechanisms, but the new AudioAnimatronic Disney design was truly "cutting-edge technology" at that time (early 1960's).

Disney's staff wrote a whole musical show around their new bird designs, and the Tiki Room presentation was born.

They set it all up in one of the Disney (movie) Studios and (after adding a lot of additional special effects that rounded-out simple bird-stars) they built the final showcase for the attraction at Disneyland, set everything up inside it and the show debuted in 1963 (wow!)
The Enchanted Tiki Room was a HUGE success with guests for many years.
And, naturally, when WDW's MK was built, another Tiki Room was included in the plans.

But, as with anything based on "cutting-edge technology"... the Tiki Room was soon upstaged by newer, more complex and amazing animatronic attractions.
The songs chosen for the show were becoming too out-dated ("Let's All Sing Like the Birdies Sing", even in 1963, was not exactly the "pop anthem of a new generation").

The simple ideas of "birds twittering" and audience "sing-along" songs became "quaint" and SLOW as audiences became more accustomed to bigger "thrills" at other newer attractions.

The Tiki Room inhabitants were playing to fewer and fewer folks in the seats below.
And many times I was witness to a "mass exodus" of folks just getting up mid-show and finding the exit.

So the Imagineers decided it might help matters to "update" the show by adding "name" characters (from recent films) and by making music choices that had an appeal to the audiences that were currently Disney's guests.

And I personally applaud this "new" version of the show.
The writers clearly had a love and respect for the original version (as there many references to it, and actual RECORDINGS from the original still included.)

I will also say that since the new "Under New Management" show began, I have seen far fewer guests get up and "walk out" during the show than I had been seeing for many years prior to the update.

There are some who don't like the new version of the show and want it restored to the original version.
And I do think that old show was like a "peek into the past" (with Walt and his crew), but I think the way it was headed... playing to fewer and fewer guests... it would simply have been REMOVED... and that would have been a far worse crime, IMHO.

If they take out the pirate sitting on the bridge with the hairy leg and muddy foot then I'm taking over! I won't shave my legs, I'll go play with the pigs for awhile and sit up on that bridge myself! hehe

oh my. once again i should never have given my opinion on this site. i said it was disrespectful because Iago-the most annoying bird ever....- is saying how the birds are so boring, etc... I also did mention I was a kid when I liked this so maybe to older people it's not so fun but the new version scares younger kids too. this was my opinion and you dont have to go on and on trying to prove yourself right about something. this is the one thing that makes me really sick of this site.

We'll be there the morning of July 7 too! Can't wait!
We even planned a special trip just for it and the movie. (well that's what I used to convince DH anyway!) ;)

I heard they're going to give away an AudioAnimatronic Capt. Jack to the first riders. pirate:

Hmmm..do they still have that no running once they drop the rope rule?? :rotfl:

That makes two of us #1 Pocahontas, at least theres two of us in the minority lol

FYI, today was the first appearance of Captain Jack Sparrow's Pirate Tutorial in MK near POTC. The performance seems decent, although the guy needs to work on his accent a bit. He will also be in the park tomorrow (24th).

What in the heck are you so UPSET about?
Is there some ATTACK or INSULT you think you found in my reply?

The way I interpreted it was that you were merely sharing some information. I must have missed the supposed 'attack' as well. :confused3
