We're to leave on Saturday. I'm wondering how the drive will be down - gas stations, etc.

We usually take I75 to Florida Turnpike, then Route 27 to Highway 192.

Anyone know if this is clear to drive thru?

Thanks!

We are wondering the exact same thing, leaving Friday - we also take the same route that you do, hopefully someone can give us an answer...

MIL & DH are leaving MA early Wed morn (3am) to drive down to FL - hoping to be there by Thurs night.
They usually take 95 but will take 75 if nec.

Maybe the people on the transportation will know. Did you ask over there? I'm curious also as I leave next Saturday and follow the exact same route---

I posted on the transportation board, but no response yet. I wonder if there is a number we can call to check roadways for Florida?

We aren't scheduled to arrive until 10/22, but the way things are going, we are thinking (at least I am) of driving instead of flying--and we live in Dallas. The flight issues that arise when a hurricane hits are awful---of course, my husband would say that driving from Texas is equally awful!!

You might try Fla. Highway Patrol for road information...let us know how the roads are, okay?

I've been wondering too!

We're leaving Oct.1 and heading down I81 and then I95.

Shan,
I wouldn't worry too much about it until around Thursday. I wouldn't try to call FHP either. Of course when we were trying to get back home after evacuating Ivan they were NO help. We evacuated and went to Jacksonville, FL. We were trying to get back home and had made our way to Tallahasee. I tried several numbers for FHP (several had answering machines saying they were closed because of Ivan  What, FHP, Closed) and the other emergency number they gave me was no help. In fact the guy I spoke to suggested we drive from Tallahassee up to Atlanta, and work out way back to south Alabama from there!!! I told him he was nuts! We came on home that day following I 10 west bound and worked our way around the mess in Pensacola. It was nuts. Anyway, my point, (ha) I wouldn't bother calling anyone until later in the week, and even then, I think I75 shouldn't be a problem.

I have been wondering that same the thing! I will be traveling on I-95 South to I-4 West.

If anyone has any info., please post.

Sounds like several of us are driving this week. This is our first time driving, usually fly but wanted to do a few other things too, will be dropping down from Atlanta on 75. Hoping after 11 or 12 nights at Port Orleans Riverside we can catch a beach somewhere someway for 3 or 4 nights on our way home. Gotta love these 2 week fall breaks the kids get these days~! We're leaving Saturday morning.

I'm not an expert, but I do know a lot about Florida travel.

An impotant note: If you are coming South on I-95, and going West on I-4, you will NOT want to go through Orlando at these times. 7:30am-9:00am, 11:00am-1:00pm, or 4:30pm-7:00pm. I know that doesn leave much, but its better than waiting an hour in an area that you should be out of in 20 minutes.

I-4 is not the best place, as many areas of it are under construction.

As for I-10 in Pensacola, I have no clue what is going on there.

I-75 isn't too bad a route either.

I have never traveled the Florida Turnpike, so I can't help you there.

You may want to try http://www.baynews9.com and click TRAFFIC and look up I-4, but I don't know how much help that will give you.

Thats all the help I could give.

Erin how are they getting around 1-10 in pensacola?

Triton: I think that you can take highway 90 around Pensacola. Hopefully by now they have the detour well marked. When we returned on Thursday, just after Ivan plowed through, even 90 was closed because of debris, we were on roads north of P'cola that I had never seen or heard of! (Chumukla Highway! ) Of course the fact that it was pitch dark, since no one had electricity didn't help. It took us 3 hours once we exited in Milton to get to Fairhope (normally 45 to 50 min. drive) . Very scary. DH and I finally got back on I 10, it was like a ghost town, and as many times as we had traveled that road in the past, you could not tell where you were. Anyway, I'll try to check on things and PM you.
