Anyone else using upcoming Disney trip as motivation to lose weight?

estherhead, yep, vacations mean more to those of us who do the scut work of life. I bet we are also much neater in our hotel rooms cause we know what goes into cleaning up after people. My Disney housekeepers fight over who gets us cause they have little to do. ;)

The only problem with vacations is all the work that goes into getting ready (not the agendas and such, that is fun!) and then catching up when we get back. I refuse to contemplate anything until we hit the Indiana line.

YOU got brand name cereal??? You lucky lady.

I hope you enjoy your vacation as much I plan to enjoy mine. Getting to meet my DIS pals is my favorite thing. Lots of laughs and making memories! :wizard:

I have a wedding rehearsal dinner 2nite and a wedding tomorrow so temptation will be everywhere this weekend GREAT!!!! I cant wait...trying to keep my wedding dress shopping in mind hopefully that will work

everyone have a great weekend

very bad week..............:headache:

mickeymyfavorite: :wizard: Here's a magic wish that your week will improve. Everyday is a BRAND-NEW day!!!!!!!!

I'm so impressed with the commitment to good health everyone has! What an encouraging, positive thread to be a part of!

I had my strange 3 pound weight gain overnight -- I understand Slightly Goofy what you mean when you say you feel like you're doing bare minimum eating and the scale doesn't show it. And LMO, in my brain I know what you say is true about weighing yourself once a week. I just can't break the habit, though:guilty: If I don't weigh myself everyday, I'm afraid I'll miss my lost pounds. Instead, because of some weird law in the universe, I'll only ever weigh myself on these odd 3-pound overnight gains!!!!!!!:scared1: It's all a mental thing...of course, some would say, everything's a mental thing with me...!!!!:lmao: :rotfl:

Suzimom, I weigh myself morning and night. I have to. Usually I lose about two pounds overnight but lately that has not been happening. That tells me that I am retaining water. Since I am eating sparingly but have been terribly thirsty due to all the yardwork I am doing in this heat I am sure that is what it is.

The thing about weighing more often, for me, is that if the scales are down it gives me incentive to keep on with whatever I am doing and if they are up they inspire me to try something different. I know more about myself in the past 3 years than I had ever learned in the previous decades.

Don't cha just hate the fact that those quick 3 pounds UP will take so much longer going back DOWN?? Gravity should kick in, heaven knows it works on every other body part.

How true!!! My DH had to laugh at me the other day (and I did, too -- because it really was rather silly). He knows I weigh myself every morning. Well, he walked in bedroom late morning and there I am on the scale -- didn't say anything. About 3:00 in the afternoon, same thing -- this time there was a little chuckle, and finally around 6:00 when he couldn't contain himself anymore as he saw me ONCE AGAIN on the scale, he just had to ask, "You just trying to find the right number for the day?" Well, DUH!! :rotfl:

I really don't normally do that, I was basically experimenting with my water/fat% on my scale. I don't think it's a terribly accurate measure, though. Anyway, we had a laugh about it.

I'm so impressed that you've lost 100#!!   Way to go!!:woohoo:

Suzimom, I have digital scales and often have to get on them a few times and take an average. I probably just need to change the batteries but who has time for that?

Yesterday I had to take a big truckload of stuff, some to the landfill and some to a yardwaste place (why can they not have both things in the same place????) so I had all of that to unload and then I got a big truckload of red mulch at a great price and managed to get it all unloaded and spread.

Believe me, with my breathing problems, this was not an easy task. I had to take frequent breaks and one time the pain was actually up in my jaw, something I try to avoid.

The good news is that the scales are down majoring from yesterday and I am currently looking at a nearly 4 pound loss for the week. If I can just not drink anything today and tomorrow, that is. Do you know what a gallon of water weighs??? :scared1:

If the weight holds it will be a new low for me. Still fat but not as morbid.

Do you know that in Japan they have toliets that weight and analyze everything to give you a daily report? I am not sure I want to know quite that much about myself. :lmao:

How did your scales behave today? If they do not do as you wish, just stomp them into submission. Mine are scared of me.

Linda -

You are such a WORKER!!! Seems like about everytime you post, you've been laboring hard in your yard! Wow - sometimes you make me tired just reading your posts! I rug-doctored the house today -- we have the staff with their families from my school coming over tomorrow evening for a get-together before the year starts. I've spent the past few days looking at my house from a visitor's perspective -- amazing how many cobwebs & dust bunnies you just don't see until you look at your house that way. Needless to say, I've been cleaning, cleaning, and cleaning some more. This is my reward right now -- I haven't had time to check back on the boards for a few days.

My scales are behaving pretty nicely lately. Thanks for asking. I will know who to send them to if they don't do what I want...:rotfl:

How did your 4 lb. loss go? Keep up the great work!!:thumbsup2

Suzimom, I do not work because I want to but I am forced to.

I am a 59 year old woman married for 35 years to a 73 year old man who was hard pressed to put in his 37.5 hrs a week let alone do anything, and I do mean anything else.

Never had enough money to hire much done and I like things to be neat and clean. German, ya know.

I try to think, when I am doing the work, that the money saved will mean an extra hour at DW. I love it there. I get to walk around and talk to people (not much of that allowed here), eat what I want without fear (or much of it) of gaining weight and someone else cleans up after ME!!!

I am afraid that my 4# loss dwindled to a mere 3.75# by the time I hit the TOPS scales. They are not as afraid of me as my small scales are. Actually that is a huge loss so I am scared I will not have one this week. I have two more pounds to go to reach my goal pre trip.

I have to disagree with you about something you said .

looking at my house from a visitor's perspective

I can promise you that you are far more critical of your home than your visitors will be. We are so familiar with out homes that we know the nooks and crannies that do not get as much attention. Usually cause we are busy doing something more important. :laundy: Next time you visit someone else's home please take note of just how much you pay attention to the corners and such. I think you will rethink your hard postition on yourself.

I hate doing the carpets. It plumb wears me out. Sounds as if you are a diyer also. Do you have your own machine? I do and love it. I tend to clean more often. I use a Shark to vacumn nearly every day. We both have breathing issues. The Shark is amazing and so easy to use. We also take our shoes off in the UR coming in from the garage and that helps a lot. I do not mind taking my shoes off in someone else's home at all. I have a Korean sil. Makes sense to me. I always did think that guy with the dirty shirt collar should have washed his neck instead of expecting his wife to get the collars cleaned.

I just finished hiring someone to reroof the garage roof. I am a hard worker but I am not crazy. :dance3:

Hope it rains here and everywhere else that needs it.

I think this thread was going somewhere & I kind of killed it...

How are people doing on their goals?

What successes do friends have to share? What frustrations are you encountering? Let's try to get this back up and running and more helpful to all!!!!

Hello all, we're back from Disney and I lost .4 lbs while there! I haven't been good since though and am still at the same spot. I'm getting back on track today as I still have a tiny bit to go to my pre-pregnancy weight.

It's worth the effort, I didn't mind my photos too much. Even the one DH & I had taken at Blizzard Beach! Losing weight to look cute in vacation photos IS worth the effort!

I'm partly to blame also about this thread getting lost! I was suppose to start writing on here how much I have been working out and posting good eating habits! but i got side-tracked!

The summer was a roller coaster ride as far as weight loss and good habits. One week I was eating great and working out! The next Im eating cheeseburgers and drinking too many beers! :scared1:

Despite all the ups and downs this past summer I only gained 5 pounds. Since Labor day I have been pretty consistent with working out and eating right. This past sunday was rough I went to the feast in little italy ate a couple of zeppoles and then we went to watch football at a bar and i had a couple of wings and some beers ...I'm trying not to beat myself up about it and move on!!! I think Im trying to correct my biggest problem when it comes to my weight loss. It is my all or nothing attitude. usually when i had a bad day on sunday I would have a bad day on mon, tues, wed etc. Im just trying to move on from being so perfect when it comes to dieting ...it doesnt work it just leads to bingeing and bad eating anyway. so im trying to change my thinking and say ok hey I had some bads things sunday but monday was right back to the gym and eating right!!!

My ulitmate goal is my trip to disney in May!!!!! I would love to be 120 pounds! so we shall see how it goes. Lets keep this thread going im glad you brought it back to life suzimom!

And congrats to esterhead and redstargazer on the weight loss!!!

I have been on a diet journey since the week before Memorial Day. I have lost 19 pounds and am currently stuck right now- the scale won't budge. This past sunday I spoke with the owner of the place that I exercise. She told me to step up my game by exercising harder and the weight will start to disappear once again. I have began walking alot, with the treadmill included to condition myself for disney- we all know how much walking we do there!! I would like to be at least down 10 more pounds by my trip on 11/29, I think that is doable...

I always suggest adding weights....muscle burns calories...I would suggest dvd workouts as the firm..or do strength training at the gym

I take classes 3x a week. On monday I do a upper body blast, which includes your arms, abs, and back muscles- lots of weight lifting. On friday I take a step class which also involves weight lifting as well. On sunday mornings I take a kardio kick class which involves your legs and arms.

I have bingo arms- jiggly, jiggly and trying hard to get rid of the fat and have diesel arms.

Are you writing down every single bite you are eating? Sometimes when we are super frustrated with our weight we end up eating too little, especially when we bump up the exercise. I'd figure out how many calories you are burning a day & then exactly how many calories you are eating every day. You may be surprised that you will lose weight faster bumping up the exercise & bumping up the food intake.

I'm Brenda. We are going on our second land/sea pkg Christmas of 08. Last time was Christmas 2000. I was in good shap, and walking those parks for 3 day was murder on my feet and back. Now I'm very overweight, and am dreading the parks. I'm off to a good start. I'm down 17 lbs. Still have a long way to go, but I want to be able to enjoy the parks with the grandchildren. It's going to be great to meet others who are working toward the same goal.

Hope you don't mind if I join in too! I am going to WDW for the first time the end of January with my dh and 3 boys. It is my ds's (4) Make a Wish trip. Among the many things I am doing to prepare for this trip (all fun stuff!!), I have set a goal to lose 44+ pounds. I started Sept. 1 and have lost 10# to date. I have cut out all snacks, except 1 healthy treat in the afternoon and stick to 3 meals a day. I have done several hard core diets (hospital all liquid etc.) but always gain the weight back within a year. I am hoping by doing this slower this time it will stay off as I learn good habits along the way. I also walk on a treadmill every evening- right now it's 35-40 minutes but planning to kick it up to 1hr over the next several weeks. I feel great. Wish I didn't have so much to come off so that that 10 pounds was really obvious but I know I'm on my way. Good luck to everyone!!
