Anyone else upset with new posting rules?

I think you are right. My objection is that 50 posts in six months, for the average person, is a tremendous number of posts. Also, many members, including myself, have been around for 10 years. I've only averaged 70 posts per year, but clearly I have some staying power and a history behind me, as do many others.

As I've said before, I don't object to their being a bar, I just think it has been set way, way too high.

I don't see how 50 posts every 6 months is so difficult. That's basically about 8 posts a month. Hardly a blistering number.

Obviously. Like I stated don't have time to hang and chit chat. Do have a life also. Oh well, found somewhere else to post.

In the "have a life" category...I have better things to do than be upset about message board posting rules.

The posts do not have to be just DVC related there are many other forums on the site.

Actually, I think it does. I tried to post on the rental board a few weeks ago and received an email that since I only had 20 or so posts on the dvc board, my post would not be allowed. Obviously, I have way more than 50 posts, but they just haven't been on the dvc area.

I can post to rental posts already there. Just can't start my own.

Though I am not a Rent/Trade board Moderator, I know the posts can be anywhere on the DIS, not just the DVC boards.

They do check them for content, though. One word posts, smilie posts, etc. do not count, nor do posts that are "complaining" about the new Rent/Trade Board rules...

I guess we must have alot to say given our totals!

OP -- Rules are put into place when there is a need. Obviously the disboards thought there was a need. JMHO

I don't think we're allowed to debate board rules. We don't know how many "issues" DIS had to handle behind the scenes when renting didn't go as planned. I suspect a lot happened behind the scenes. I certainly hope the reason wasn't to increase demand for a board sponsor.

That said I'm disappointed posters who want to rent points from a DVC owner can no longer start a thread. There may be some owners who'd rather respond to a few posters rather then have tons of posts and PMs to go through. I understand DIS having rules regarding either how many posts a member has to make and/or how long they have to be a member of DIS. Limiting threads to owners who are active members of DIS does tend to reduce the number of points available on DIS to rent.

edit to add--Dave's service is win win for the board owner. DIS gets some kind of compensation and the complaints from renting are virtually eliminated.

Looks like its time to start chatting then. I haven't rented points in the past, but would like to have that opportunity. I like have a tight nit group like many of you have stated. Take care.

That is interesting. I'm sure at least half my posts weren't just smilies and such, but I still received an email stating that my post wouldn't be on the boards because I had less than 50 posts. So from that information, it seems that the rule is that it MUST be within the DVC area and not in the cruise area, theme park area, etc.

I'm not complaining about the rules, just trying to clarify misinformation. I read it as I needed to have 50 posts within 6 months within the DVC area, but maybe it does mean 50 within 6 months, anywhere on the boards. I am not on the boards daily and maybe I haven't posted 50 times in 6 months. I don't know. Maybe one of the mods can clarify it, but here is what it said:

As the original intent of the Rent/Trade board was for it to be a place where active members of the DIS Community could come to rent points or reservations, or make transfers, new posting rules became effective February 1, 2011. In order to post a new thread, the DVC R/T Board requires a minimum of 50 non-Rent/Trade board posts distributed evenly over the past 6 months.

tzuhouse, you have 27 non-Rent/Trade posts made within the past 6 months. I'm sorry your thread cannot be validated at this time.

For more info, please see the sticky threads on the Rent/Trade Board.

Looking over your posts for the last 6 months, even if they counted all of them 56 buy my count(just quickly) minus any rent/trade or complaints about the new rules you not qualify anyway given that they are not evenly spread out. If you minus your usage the past week you are far below the 50.

For those that are wondering just click on your name in any thread and then click on find more posts. You can then find out how many you have been posting, when and where.

I would be happy to explain.

The PM sent to you was sent on March 24. The search system for the previous 6 months from that date would have found the following non-Rent/Trade posts for you:

1 budget board
7 Disney Collectors
2 Theme Parks
6 DVC Mousecellaneous
1 DVC Ops
7 Cruise
2 Cruise Meets
1 Universal Studios

This yields the total of 27 non-Rent/Trade board posts quoted. You may post on any non-Rent/Trade board. The ones that will not count are:

Smilie only posts, posts like "Thanks for The Info", "Great Idea" etc, and other posts that do not contribute to the subject of the threads. Posts to the Availability board will not count, because those posts are deleted by the system when they are tallied.

Also posts on the "test" board like "testing" or Posting to get to 10 (for PMing) and other posts specifically to boost post count will not count towards the requirement.

For those that are wondering just click on your name in any thread and then click on find more posts. You can then find out how many you have been posting, when and where.

Thank you for that information! I was always wondering how you could find out how many posts you had over time. It also makes it easier to find threads that have "disappeared" that you had posted on! Thanks again!

More and more posting web sites are requiring amounts of postings in order to post something for sale. The benefits for the web-site is the more people posting the higher the amount for the advertisement. The only draw back is the quality of the posts start to become one or two word answers, or poor quality answers. I've always found this site to be a great source of Disney information, I hope they can continue that.:scared1:

I am always losing thread since I am all over the boards.:goodvibes

"they" is us. This board was a valuable source of information when all the lurkers were lurking. So if they choose to come out of lurkdom and post tripe, that is on them, not this board. I personally would not want to rent from someone that posted tripe, but that is just my opinion. I also would not want to rent from someone who does not have time to "chit chat" because they have a life, but that is also my opinion.
If you are so out of pocket that you cant post 50 times in 6 months, or find the time from your busy schedule to contribute to a board you seek to profit from, then again, not my first pick to send money to.

Well, I did try to post rental points once not knowing the rules. Now I get it. I think it is ok. I think I feel better knowing that if I did rent points it would be to someone that is a regular!

I am very disappointed with the new rules. As an owner I don't rent out but I do often buy(rent) and transfer from others. With the small amount of posts on the rent/trade board now I don't even go there anymore to look:sad2:

Ok, i am reading all the posts here of the concerns. Someone here mentioned--I think I feel better knowing that if I did rent points it would be to someone that is a regular!

I just want to express here without anyone thinking i am attacking and pointing fingers at anyone but just my perspective about renting.

First of all, for those who are worrying to get a "trusted" DVC owner, and to think that simply posting 50 or more posts here doesn't make a trusting owner any more than then an owner who came on here as a newbie.

I am a DVC owner myself since 1997 and and because of sudden change that hit us that resulted a downfall in income personally, i started to rent out /trade my DVC so that i can keep my DVC as long as i can and be able to pass it on to my children and future grandchildren someday. I started this 4 years ago and i have had wonderful tenants and not a single complaints from any of them to me but instead got positive feedbacks. As an owner, I go out of my way to make SURE that that rentals gets their "magical" vacation and at anytime, i am always avail to any concerns or questions to the tenant.

I also thank the Disboards here as well, for letting us post the rental.

However, when i quickly (and i mean quickly!!) read about the new rule of Feb 1st, i didn't take it seriously because i assumed that it was for newbies-- not for prior posters who have been posting DVC rentals before. (i now have learned, never assume anything, but must read word for word, including the fine print!!;)) and i didn't realized the 50 post rule until i was trying to post another DVC offer a few weeks ago and i was denied posting.

As an owner, l also wanted to point out here, that i think it is important to know who the owner are and their past practices on rentals here on DVC board, and that it should be recorded. So this way, an interested tenant can have confidence that a trusted owner by DIS is posting on the boards.

Personally, If i were to rent from someone here, i will be MORE concern about past practices and positive feedbacks about an owner than worrying about whether or not, an owner has 50 points posted in the last 6 months.

I have always seen at least a full page of DVC offers in the past for a long while, but since the new rule, it is now only 4 or 5 open offers. It not only a disadvantage to the owners but also for the searching tenants as well, because it only showing limiting offers and i am sure there are many out there that wishes there are more offers from DVC owners, but are not able to post it because simply of the new rule.

I am willing to follow the rules and would have no problem to post 50 points in duration of 6 months, but sometimes, (yes, we do have a life!) life can turn unexpectly and DIS may not be the 1st priority in everyone's life for the time being and therefore, if we don't "EVENLY" post 50 posts, but do more posts one month, than another month, we will still be denied posting.

I am hoping perhaps; this can be reconsidered so that more offers will show on the boards-- for everyone!!

I agree that sometimes life throws you a curveball. I'm preggo now and once this little bundle comes out I'm sure my posting # will go down tremendously. And yes, I will suffer the "consequences" of not being involved on the boards for awhile. But then again I already know the rule.
Doesn't make it more appetizing.

I understand what you're saying BUT think about it this way. How can you "check" out the owner you are to rent from if you can't see a good amt of their previous posts before contacting them?
Not saying this is a foolproof method, but at least you can check out what they write etc. etc. before you decide to PM them.
No this is not good for the market but this is Disboard's way to take care of their members. Unfortunately there are of course negative effects of this rule, but overall I don't think this is a bad rule. It's not convenient for lurkers or seasonal members, but it is what it is.
