What green wall? We were there at Christmas and there was no wall. When did it go up and why?

We were there yesterday and yes I feel bad for anyone going within the next few weeks- months (?) I wonder how long they will be working on things? The castle is getting an overlay for May 2005 so I am guessing it will be having work done to it for a while.

I don't have any trips planned for a while, but these things often happen. For our last trip they closed Small World earlier than planned, so we didn't get to ride. A green wall in front of the castle wouldn't upset me much or cause me to reschedule. I haven't seen any pictures yet, but it doesn't sound like it is blocking the whole castle.

Well things like that have happened to me... my first trip to London, Buckingham palace was COMPLETELY covered in scaffolding and plastic.. and then in 1999 I went to Rome and the Vatican, I swear ~ was completely covered in plastic and scaffolding - looked just like buckingham palace :D

At the Beach Club when I was there.. the whole buiding had ugly areas of scaffolding... mostly around the pool area.. it was a eyesore but you know what?, none of these things affected my trip... I don't go just to see one thing... it is just a tiny part of it.

We were in Disney in December and it's a small world was closed off by a wall... it was a disappoiintment because that ride is a tradition.. but you don't give it a second thought there is so many other things to see and do.

Disappointing sure, but not the end of the world. (and when you compare it to problems in the world these days - it is really insignificant)

My understanding is that they are preparing for the new Cinderella Show. A couple of changes will include eliminating the step up and lowering the height of the tree. Disney suspects that the new show will be even more popular and they need to increase the view. Regarding the step, I believe that they have had issues with people tripping.

Don't take this the wrong way or anything, but when's your next trip to WDW? I kinda want to make sure I'm not there at the same time. ;)

Well I'm going next month, and I'm not really to upset by the wall...i guess I'd have to see a picture to see just how bad it is. That view from Splash Mountain is amazing and wouldn't want to see a big green wall in place of the castle. but it's not the end of the world even so. We're eating at CRT for the first time ever, so no green wall will stop us from having an amazing time!

Does someone have a link to a picture of this?? We're scheduled for February.

We were in MK on Monday and there was no green wall. When we returned on Tuesday, the green wall had appeared--so it must have gone up Monday night. If you walk up the ramps to the Castle and look back you can see inside the fenced in area. In that one night, it looks like all the raised planters with seats were removed. All you can see is dirt and some light posts. I, too, heard that this refurbishment is for the Cinderellabration show. The green walls are rather unsightly and definitely detract from the beauty of the Castle so I'm sure Disney will try to have them down as quickly as possible.

Sorry, I don't have a picture.

Why cant they do these things at night?

Well, they do work on these types of things at night. But you must understand that if a project will take 400 hours to complete and each night is only 8 hours long, there is no way that it can be 'started and stopped' at the end of every night. Visual barriers are put up to try to minimize the impact to guests. But if nothing ever get built the parks would be pretty old and tired over just a few years.

It doesn't block the view of the castle very badly. It is solid wood, green, about 8 feet hight, enclosing a circular area at the end of Main Street as it meets the front area of the castle before the moat. Distracting, but I wouldn't change a vacation just because of it.

Yeah, I know what you mean. On our first-ever trip to Disneyland last summer the castle was encased in a blue tarp. It didn't take away from the trip at all and now we will have a reason to return again so we can see the castle! :smooth:

Im glad we got our pictures in front of the castle on Monday! Its bad enough that my sons favorite ride Small World was closed, but he loves seeing the castle! Its all worth it in the long run though!

According to your signature, you're going in June. All refurbishment of the castle will be completed by May 5, 2005, in time for the big worldwide celebration. You might want to check on completion dates before you get so upset.

:earsboy:

On my honeymoon I didn't get a picture of us in front of the castle because it was a big birthday cake. Didn't ruin my trip but the picture wasn't as romantic as I had hoped.

Anyone know how long the green wall will be up? We are going in March and I planned an early character breakfast at Crystal Palace one reason being to take some great shots of the castle with no one around.

I understand your feelings. :D I'm not happy to see it there either. But, I certainly wouldn't change our trip because of it. I'm hoping it's not as bad in person as it looks in those photos! LOL Who knows, maybe it won't be there by the time we go?? I haven't seen anyone say how long it will be up...? We can hope it won't be, right?! :wizard:
