Anyone else underwhelmed by Frozen Ever After?

Were going in November, and this came up the other day. My husband was saying he was disappointed in how Norway has gotten the short end of the stick on representing their country in EPCOT. He noted that two rooms of the store at one point were all Frozen related. It's great that kids get it, but there's more to Norway than Arendelle. RIP Maelstrom.

I couldn't agree more. I was beyond upset while Norway was being decimated but now I'm just resigned I guess. It's such a shame though.

Wow guys. I'm not sure what to say. I hate when I hear from so many regarding various things Disney to not expect much so you won't be disappointed. I have not ridden this yet. I'm hoping to this March. I just don't know why people would waste resources of time or money to go to any place where they had to keep expectations down in order to not be disappointed. Just doesn't make sense.

Yes, I agree

It's in World Showcase, representing the nation of Norway. Yet FEA tells a make believe story that does not take place in Norway
This blog post makes the case that Frozen does take place in Norway. I don't know enough to evaluate the article, and I'm not sure I buy the reasoning, but I encourage folks to read it to get a different perspective.

I'm not sure what a lot of people WERE expecting? Since it was basically a re-skin of Maelstrom (which was a simple, short dark ride (in a boat)) .. I was expecting the same thing. Like the new Little Mermaid ride: Fun once through for the adults and fun for the LITTLE kids tons of times. The ride (like many at WDW) are for kids under 10.

BLASPHEMY!!!!!!

I turned 40 last week and WDW is my favorite place.

I think World Showcase could actually be livened up with "Disney-fying" it and adding more attractions to that long boring walk around the lake.

In the 80s .. the concept of "walking around the world" and seeing/tasting/shopping different cultures was pretty unique.

The world is a much smaller place now with travel being easier, local restaurants bring more exotic tastes to your hometown and the internet/TV able to "see" a country's culture much easier than outdated tourist videos can.

Take each country and have turn it into a Disney attraction:
France - Ratatouille
GB - Mary Poppins
China - Mulan
Japan - Big Hero 6

etc. etc.

Each of those movies "embrace" the culture that inspired them, so they still will serve that purpose, but have a fun attraction to go with it in a park that desperately needs attractions.

I think this sounds horrendous but more importantly, if Disney tried to put a character attraction in each country, it would probably take them about 50 years at the rate they add things.

o_O If they ever did away with Peter Pan, I just may quit Disney.

Oh I love Peter Pan - I meant it was a similar style dark ride, going from scene to scene. But to me, Peter Pan, Snow White's Scary Adventures, Pinnochio out at DL, those are classic dark rides featuring classic films. I don't have the same nostalgic attachment to Frozen the way I do those movies.

That's sort of how I feel. I sometimes feel like every time something at WDW is criticized, the first line of defense is 'well your expectations were too high.' For the price Disney charges, the commercials, the 'magic they promise at every turn, I don't think it's unreasonable for people to expect the best of the best.

just my opinion but since Toy Story I have found disney's new attractions to be underwhelming.

Are you chastising people for expressing opinions that don't match yours on a ride you haven't even been on yet?

Umm, no.... I have better things to do with my time. I don't care if people don't see things my way.
My post was in no means to be negative, just stating an observation ..... Unlike your post.

Agreed. We went on 2 non Disney vacations this summer and they were both fantastic, which I expected them to be. We made great memories and felt our money was well spent. I would like to go back, but can't help feel a little trepidation about doing so. My youngest is getting old enough to go and enjoy the parks, so we are definitely going, but I'm not sure what our best plan of action should be.

I'm thinking off site and then a drive down to the beach so even if Disney isn't great, our vacation can still be salvaged.

Our family has ridden Maelstrom every trip, and....gasp....watched the video afterward each time. There were always plenty of people viewing it along with us, so don't understand where the "no one would ever watch" comes from. That being said, loved Maelstrom for what it was; sadly disappointed in the change.

Well, every time we ride Maelstrom, once the doors opened up to the movie theater, it was like a mass escape of a state prison. People went straight through the theater to the exit. We did watch the movie.... once. I hated the fact that once the theater doors were closed, you were stuck waiting for the next showing.

This attraction makeover has hit a serious nerve with a lot of people. I'm sure the imagineers did the best they could with the budget that they were given.

... I don't think it's unreasonable for guests to expect Disney to produce imaginative, innovative rides and shows, although I'm struggling to remember the last time Disney really blew me away with something.

CarsLand in Disneyland Resort in California was the most recent experience that blew me away.

Norway stopped funding the pavilion at Epcot. If Norway cared at all about its representation, it could continue to fund it. Norway didn't, so Disney is more than free to change things up however it wants.

Because they have a gazillion other things that totally rock!

:D This had me laughing so hard. I have to admit this is mostly true. Even so, I'm boycotting Frozen. No reason to take a space from people who genuinely want to experience it. I'll admit that it gives kids a little something more to look forward to in World Showcase. But as a grown up stubborn person, I'll probably wait a few years to ride it.

My resistance to change is such that I close my eyes on Pooh and pretend I'm on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. :teleport:

I'm glad I made someone smile! :)

We went on FEA twice on our Epcot day last week. It was a last minute trip so there were no FP available for it. The posted wait times around 3-4pm were 120 and 105 minutes but both times we were in and out in 35 minutes. We loved Malestrom but really enjoyed FEA and would ride it again.

We (my DD16, DD15, and myself) rode FEA with FP last week. I loved it! The teens said that it was "cute" but would never stay in line for more than 30 mins for it. I would wait 45! lol Never got to ride Malestrom so I can't compare. Would get a FP for it again, for sure!

My mom and I thought it was really cute but we agreed that unless we had a Fastpass or the wait was less than 20 minutes, we wouldn't wait; I didn't see what all the hubbub was about.

I thought it was adorable and very well done. definitely not mind blowing but exactly as I expected it.

We rode it last week with a FP and thought it was cute, but definitely not worth the 2 hour wait that was posted at the time. Next trip, I'll use my FP for Soarin and probably skip FEA all together.
