Anyone else training for an Oct/Nov marathon and want to be training buddies?

I start official training for my first marathon tomorrow (eek!!!), and was wondering who else is beginning to gear up for fall races. I'm terrified of not getting enough (or good enough) training through the summer, and thought it might to start a thread for advice/encouragement for other people in the same training cycles.

I'm getting ready for Chicago on Oct. 9.

awesome!! and have fun and good luck!!

i'm going to move this to the Event's Subforum where i think you'll get better response ---

I'm training for a 30K in August, a half in September a full in October and then Goofy in January. You'll find a ton of support here on WISH!

I'm training for New York in Nov. I actually thought about Chicago to try something different, but decided to go for New York, since I have some unfinished business I need to take care of after my less-than-stellar marathon debut last year on the same course

Good luck with your training. I am also training for my first marathon in October - doing the Marine Corps Marathon on Oct 30. Chicago, NYC, and Disney are my other must do's. Best of luck and keep us updated on how you are progressing.

I almost did Marine Corps instead of Chicago - it looks like a great race, but Chicago is a much closer drive - about 5 hours.

Same for me but the other way. But I love Chicago so I hope to do the marathon there so I can run by the lake. What of training plan are you on?

I'm running MCM and Disney!

Awesome. Look for me at the MCM. I will be in a white shirt. Ha ha ha. That will be my first race with thousands of people. I am actually thinking about doing the Wine and Dine half since it will a good thirteen mile training run. Sounds good anyways.

I am doing the plan from Run Less, Run Faster. What are you using?

Honestly not using anything at the moment. Just trying to pile up miles. Probably needed something more structured though. Only ran 4 miles today but was glad to get that in as had other stuff to do. Have great runs!

Wine and Dine was my first half last year - it's a really fun course!

so where is everyone in mileage? right now i'm hoping to hit a bit above 30 miles this week. my "official" training window doesn't start until the fourth of july...but i'm debating the merits of getting in one 14 mile run before then. i haven't gone beyond 13.1 since last year!

I ran five Tues and four Thurs. Planning on six tomorrow and Sunday. Trying to get ramped back up. Ran a half in April and have been trying to get motivated since then. I am not good at knowing the plans but as long as you are ready what could doing the extra hurt. What is everyone's running plans for the weekend? Hope they great whatever they are.

I'm around 37 miles during the week, and yes, I know I'm really early for any races in the fall/winter, but I just can't stop sometimes.

Last week I ran 120 minutes for my long run (going around 12.2 miles), so this week I'm pulling back to around 100-105 minutes, and try to hit around 10.5 or so.

I'm trying to stay at or below 13 until a little further into the summer. I don't want to burn out before the Goofy in January. :yay:

I did a half last weekend, so this week's mileage was pretty low - 7 miles through the week, will do 3 tonight, and 12 tomorrow.

My mileage for the week came in at 30 miles even, and I did another 42 on the bike (which counts for some cross training, right?)

glad to see that everyone is in somewhat similar ranges...some of my friends are already 40+ miles/week deep and doing 14-16 miles long runs and I'm feeling like a slacker :)

Seems a bit early for a 16-mile long run. Our training group, which has people running both Chicago and MCM, is at 10 miles for our long run and 5-6 for our weekday runs. I don't think we hit 16 until late July or early August.

I think it's all relative to what your base is, what your goals are, etc. some people will run 80+ miles a week and not really be training for anything....I obviously love to run, but I don't think I will ever love running *that* much

My plan is a bit on the aggressive side (for me anyways..again that's all relative) so I'm hitting my first 15 middle of July, and my first 16 first week in Aug. Been running lots of 10s and 12s until my training window officially starts July 4th weekend. I'm on the sched for 13 then, but I might go the extra mile to get over the mental hurdle of going longer than 13.1...but we'll see.

I'm in a Galloway group training for MCM, and we did 10 last weekend. We're scheduled for 12 this weekend, and 14 on July 9. Those doing earlier races (Steamtown, Baltimore, Chicago) are doing 2 extra miles.

I took the winter off to recover from surgery, so my weekly mileage is still pretty low. I'm shooting for the "get to the starting line healthy" approach, so my weekly mileage is holding between 15-20. I'm trying to make the most of the mid-week runs without pushing too hard and hurting myself.
