Anyone else told no dues on 2019 RIV points, and then get a dues statement?

We purchased RIV (100 points, UY Sept) on Feb 6 2020. During the purcahse, we were told "no dues" on the 2019 UY points.
We closed on our purchase 2 weeks ago, and then got a dues statement today. The cost is less than the 8.31$/point as well

I thought dues were in January?

Am I missing something?

Dues are based on the calendar year, not UY. Therefore, even though you got 2019 points with your purchase, you did not get billed dues for 2019 since you didn’t own then.

However, we are now in 2020 and therefore, you owe 2020 MFs from the date of your purchase for the remainder of this year,

So, your dues for 2020 will be prorated from Feb 6th, to the end of the year...basically, 11 months.

riviera opened in Dec 2019
Our UY is Sept - we got UY2019 points with our purchase in Feb since we are in UY2019 correct?

when we purchase we were told no dues on 2019 points.

doesn’t UY2020 start in Sept for us?

Yes, your UY starts in September, but dues are based on calendar year and go from January to December,

So, 2020 dues start for everyone, regardless of UY, in January.

When they said you didn’t owe dues for 2019, it was accurate. You didn’t have to pay the 2 weeks worth of 2019 MFs that the rest of us paid for buying in 2019.

As I said, what you are being billed for are 2020 MFs. You will get a bill every January for MFs, which can be paid all at once, or you can set up monthly payments,

so this first bill which we got today is for 2020, and then our 2021 MF dues will be billed in Jan 2021?

Correct. Your dues bill today should be prorated for about 11 months since you bought Feb 6th.

The estimate of what those dues will be for 2021 will come out in November, be approved in December at the annual meeting, and then bills mailed.

They will be due by January 15th, unless you set up monthly payments.

So.
If I bought Direct Dec points in nov 2020,
Would I receive 2019 Dec points (hoping they would bank), 2020 Dec Points, and only have to pay for one month of dues?

i think the will stop giving 2019 point in August. Bank deadline is 4 months before and since it opened in December would assume that way

I thought that they banked the points for you direct if you purchased and you could purchase up to the use year and get last years point. I could be totally wrong though.

Do you current own already direct? If so, you cannot choose another use year at any resort. Once you’re direct you will always have the same use year regardless of when and where you buy direct

You’re correct. If you buy direct In November 2020 for a December Use year, you will get the December 2019 points and only have to pay the prorated dues for the December 2019 points. You’ll be past the banking deadline for the December 2019 points but all you have to do is call Member Services and they will bank them for you.

Essentially you will get two years of points for one month of dues.

I don’t believe this is true, when buying direct you can buy any UY you want. The Guides try to sell you the same UY because it is easier to manage your contracts but they can’t force you to have the same UY.

DVC does usually bank the points for you, even if your past the banking deadline, but with the current situation I wouldn't completely count on it. I would speak to your Guide first and not just assume that they are currently doing this.

Not true.

They stop giving 2019 points when they don't have any left in their inventory to give.

People have gotten points the month before a new UY begins, while others have been shut out several months before. It just depends.

It is a little fuzzy to me now that DVC can change UY on points, though. I don't know how they are doing that.

They will bank them for you past the deadline on a direct sale.

As far as I know they are not even selling contracts right now....

Yes, you would if buying RIV or AUL. Any of the other resorts that are sold out would depend if they had them in stock with the 2019 points,

You would then have to ask them to bank the points for sure, They wrote in the Home Resort Rules and Regulations to ensure this can happen.
