Anyone else think Glow Fest is terrible?

What the heck is Glow Fest about? We were there recently and did experience it, but why is this around? Is it there for people to kill time while they wait for World of Color to start?

For those of you not familiar with what it is, it's basically an outdoor rave Disney style complete with dancing, loud thumping music, florescent colors, and booze. I'm not that over the hill, I'm in my early 30's and can appreciate the music and party scene - never cared much for dancing or drinking. I think what's bothering me is the drinking and availability of alcohol, I don't know how strong the very expensive drinks are but did see a few DISers acting like DisDrunkards. It's a family dance party but I really don't think alcohol should be involved. The Disneyland park and customer service are in a different universe compared to other theme parks in the So. Cal area (Six Flags, Knott's Berry Farm, Sea World, and especially Universal Studios) so why lower their standards with California Adventure? Fine, if they want to have a Napa area with wine then keep the alcohol there, the margaritas and beer never really made much sense but I don't think Glow Fest should include alcohol, it's not appropriate when young kids are still around, the party attracts teens so this is not a good example, and it's just very tacky and low for Disney standards. The Vacation timeshare stands and Chase credit card booth are bad enough, soon they'll have poor CMs offering free bags with every credit card application as they do at Universal Studios.

Been talked about before, it's not an official disney thing (From what I read) it's from a offsite company or something, it's different, fun and entertaining for the older kids/adults who would want to hear some music and maybe just enjoy the night. :)

Wow - that sounds like something I totally would not like either - sorry you had to experience an unpleasantness. I was wondering what Glowfest was - and by your description it sounds awful!

i agree. it's fun and entertaining and not just for teens, its' for families too! no one has abused the alcohol yet that i have seen at glowfest and let me tell you if they think your id is fake they will not sell to you! i know this for a fact, i am 30 i look 25, the girl had to call the manager over to re-look at my id and give me a whole credit check, and at $10 a martini who would abuse that!!... i don't think it's really considered an rave, it's more like an outdoor dance party with really cool lights and neon stuff! it's fun to even dance with the go go dancers, they are super cool and get you to join in on the fun!! :)

this glowfest is WAY better then the tomorrowland terrace dance club! :) i jus think that anybody that has a sour opinion on glow fest is looking at the glass half full-maybe spend a little more time at glow fest next time or go more then once, you will see that it's a breath of fresh air to california adventure and i am soo glad that they have it! :yay:

ohh and guess what knott's has alcohol in the park also, i am sure magic mountain does also and universal, AND if you don't like the alcohol in the park i don't suggest that you go to the food and wine festival 2011 at california adventure either

I'm not much of a drinker and there's no way I would pay the prices the ask at GLOW but my DD10 and I went to it a few weeks back and she had a blast (and therefore so did I watching her.)

I didn't see any drunkeness, but it wasn't very late. DD enjoyed dancing and having her distorted image projected on the wall. (in 2 different places). She also enjoyed dancing in the streets-though she is getting to the age where she is getting self-concious. When we were there it was mostly kids doing the dancing, etc.

It's not for everyone, but it's not bad. Sorry OP didn't like it.

Here's a few pictures for those who haven't seen any yet.

When I heard glow feat served alcohol in the streets, I admit I didn't feel it fit into the Disney image. However, when I walked through glow fest, my mind was changed. The music and energy there is great! Everyone I saw looked like they were having a great time and, although I didn't stop (I was on a TOT mission) I really enjoyed passing through. I was there right after the first woc show, and did not see anyone that appeared to be abusing the alchohol.

And i'm sure they most likely have some sort of policy or something with how many drinks they give to a single person.

I feel the same way, no abusiveness with the drinks..

its 2 per purchase.. that’s all I know..

See, a policy. :D

2 per purchase per person,,s

so apx if you bought two martini's one for you and me, that is all you can do at THAT moment., but you could go back 10 min later and buy 2 more, ya get it?... and umm i like mine with a lime squeeze! thanks! ;)

Was there last week and it was mostly families with younger kids who were doing all the dancing, although there were some older tweens and teens, but not many. My teenagers thought it was fun to watch and listen but did not want to particpate. We hung around for about 20 minutes or so after riding ToT just to watch and listen to the music. Although I didn't see any abuse of the liquor; somehow the tent set up selling mixed drinks didn't appeal to me. I have no problem with a drink at dinner, at the pool or even in the hotel lounge in the evening. I have done that many times over and with my children. However IMHO the booths at the Glow Fest seemed to advertise the liquor and try to make it seem like part of the experience, which I think isn't the experience Disney wants to sell. Again, that is just me. As I stated I didn't see any crazy behavior, but I think the potential is there and just for that reason I don't think it fits in. Overall though it was fun and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

well no they have juice and stuff also at those "tents" i had the blueberry lemonade it ws good!! and non alcoholic!

also what does IMHO stand for?

IMHO I have the same problem with glow fest I have with other parks and with Dca. I dont think Alcohol needs to be involved in family fun. I just dont. With all the rides and other fun things to be had why do we need to drink to I just dont understand it. And from what I hear theres lots of beer at Glow fest. As for the rest of it its not my cup of tea I would avoid it like the bird flu if I were there. Personally I dont see it being around long, but you never know I guess :confused3 according to the Disneyland pod cast I listen to apparently on the Disney surveys it was getting better reviews then world of color.

Haven't been yet but just the idea seems a little less than family friendly to me. I've never minded at all that they have already had several locations that serve alcoholic drinks. They have been discreet thus far. But now it seems that they just can't seem to get enough different locations throughout the park. Don't forget that in the future they are also planning the beer garden back in the PP area.

Just wondering if anyone might know.... if you do not want to attend the Glow Fest while waiting for the WOC do you have any other options of things to do besides shopping? Will there still be any rides open?

And stay away from Epcot in Florida - "Drinking Your Way Around the World" is a common activity.........

I actually really like glowfest. My kids enjoyed it alot also. I am not a drinker at all. I went when it was rave day. there were just some people who were dancing with glowsticks..like that guy in White Chicks. It was pretty cool. I really feel like its a totally different place with the lights and the music. Something so different than what you see during the day time. They serve alcohol at other places in the park...what is the difference if they set up a booth in the middle of the street?

I understand that not everyone will like the lights and type of music they play, but i wouldn't let that ruin my day...just move on and go to Disneyland..there is no alcohol there.

We all really liked Glow Fest! We were thru the area three different nights to get to Tower of Terror and dallied there for 10-15 minutes each time. The energy was positive and upbeat. And it drew night time crowds - something DCA has struggled to do ever since it was built.
