Anyone else TERRIFIED to fly?

This is how I see it:

Everyday there are literally 1000's of aircraft in flight.
In each craft, there maybe 10s to 100s of people on-board.
If you factor-in the number of *years* between commerical airline crashes, I have a better chance winning this past Wednesdays $260 million Powerball Grand Prize WHILE being struck by lightening than my life being taken in an airplane crash!

As for driving....the drive down doesn't bother me. It's the LONG DRIVE HOME that bums me out!

I'll fly every chance I get! Not only do to the above...but I also want to spend as much time with 'da Mouse' as I can. Those extra 48 hrs mean alot to me!

I think your point is well taken. I really don't think the airline personnel would want to risk their own safety. Your post reminded me of a book a read a few years ago, called something like "The Unfriendly Skies." It was written by a pilot, and a lot of it was very scary for a white-knuckle flyer like me. But one thing I found interesting was the author's assertion that substance abuse is not much of a problem. He said that when a pilot has a problem, it is typically reported almost immediately by their co-workers because the other people do not want to be placed in jeopardy by serving on an aircraft with an impaired pilot. Makes sense to me (and makes me feel a little better about flying).
As Chris Elliott said in an old Saturday Night Live bit (playing a U.S. Air pilot around the time they had had a bad crash, "You know I'm not suicidal because if I was, I would have crashed by now. These planes are a LOT harder to keep airborne than they are to crash!" :eek:
