WE are planning on arriving at WDW on May 21st. Ohio has been hit hard from bad snow and cold weather. At this point if we miss anymore school we may have to change our arrival date. The governor claims we may get more days forgiven. But In am not holding my breathe. Anyone else having the same problem? The winter may change my summer plans! I am wondering how this May affect thousands of travelers with kids. Who is worrying with me.

Yes, DW works for the school and has to go one full week longer than the kids. We are probably moving our Summer vacation back.

Additionally, we were supposed to go to the beach over New Years, but cancelled due to highs in the 50's at the flippin' beach! So, we are in beach withdrawals and will likely end up there this Summer instead of some other destination.

Yes, but not a WDW trip. We have a family trip planned that we are going to have to push back because our schools have burned through all of their snaow days, plus 2 additional days, already.

The good news - no flights involved, so this really isn't anything but an annoyance.

I'm in Ohio too, and sick of winter. Our school is doing "blizzard bags"-work kids do at home and it makes up a day. I've also heard talk from my teacher friends that they may make up days by going on other scheduled days off (presidents day, Easter break). When i was a kid, we had a bad winter and did get extra calamity days.We took our kids out Sept 12 and are taking them out of school this Sept. Would the school mind them missing last few days (my kids don't seem to do much the last week anyway)?

In Texas we don't have any built in snow days to our school schedule. Due to an ice storm hitting us last Friday, the kids will not get President's Day off. If they close school again, they will add school days at the end of the year. But that won't effect us as I am already having the kids miss the last 2 days of school to go to Disney World. :)

We are using all our extra build In make up days already! We took the, out in Oct for 5 days. They approved 2 more for the last days of school. Our kids are not exam age yet. So here we are , and yes the plane tickets are bought. We are DVC members and I really don't want to try to get our room changed......I have a headache just thinking about it. Our schools does not offer blizzard bags, I wish they did

I'm so sick of the cold that I want to move our summer trip up to April. Does that count? ;)

I'm in Ohio, too!! I'm a teacher and my district has, so far, gone 2 days over our allotted calamity days. As of today, if we don't get any extra snow days added, I'm working until the day before we leave for Disney!!! Super worried because we still have February to get through, which could mean even more snow days!!! :headache: I'm hoping we get 4 more added. If not, I'm going to talk to my principal and either a. try to use some sick days to get paid or
b. just take the time off without pay. We've had this trip planned since last summer and can't possibly change the dates. Never in a million years would I have expected us to have been sitting here 7 calamity days later at the end of January!!!! As far as my kids go, I'm not worried about them missing any make-up days--we all know that all they're going to do if they make up those days is watch more movies and have more extra recess!!! :rolleyes1

We haven't yet exhausted our built-in extra time. But, even if we do, I always plan our summer vacations so that they never start until at least one week after the last day of school.

I am also in Ohio - my kids have had school a whopping 7 days this month.

We leave in 2 weeks and I am not changing anything. And if we had May plans, I wouldn't change them either. I can't vacation in June due to an audit here at work and July/August in FL? No thanks.

Also in Ohio and I'm freezing. We are going to book our flights for our July trip tonight. I'm looking forward to 100 degree weather!! I'm glad we didn't book a trip close to end of school.

As a native Ohioan I have just accepted that it is best not to schedule vacation until after the 2 week of summer vacation and assume that the first week will be used to make up all the fog/snow/ice/below zero days Ohio will throw at us. Although if it was my only time to go vacation and family time would totally win out!

In Virginia and luckily we can make up hours versus days and our school already goes over the standard by 30 min a day so only one day taken away and it was Presidents' Day.

We needed to change our Easter plans around now that they took most of our snow days from spring break. :sad1:

We moved our late May/early June trip to July when my kids had already used two snow days in December. I knew then it'd be likely the school year wouldn't be ending on schedule, even though we have gone several years without use of any snow days. Oh well. I'm sure the crowds will be a little higher than in June, but we'll manage. :goodvibes

We are still good to go for our May/June trip. If there is one more snow day in Chicago, my DD will miss the last day of school. Airfare and resort are booked, so it is what it is. Report card day is one hour, so I won't be emotionally devastated if she misses it (and neither will she).

I hope my DD's school does not add days. They usually just add minutes to each remaining school day. She has a very expensive swim camp that starts up on her last official day of school.

I just saw breaking news from a friend on FB that a bill was just passed adding an extra 4 calamity days for Ohio schools.

This was just posted so it's not entirely correct (yet):
‪#‎CORRECTION‬: A bill to give Ohio districts four additional calamity days for this school year just passed a committee vote. The state house is to vote on the issue next week. If passed, then the state senate education committee will vote on the bill. ‪#‎BREAKING‬: A bill to give Ohio districts four additional calamity days for this school year just passed a committee vote. I too am a teacher in Ohio. We have now used 7 days, so we have two to make-up (unless Kasich changes the law), but unfortunately I have a June trip planned for Saturday after school lets out (last day is Thursday).

I'll take days without pay, I care not! NOTHING is stopping me from getting on that plane and going to WDW for a week!

Silly me, only having taught 4 years, didn't even have a one snow day for two years straight (even though I work at a rural school)... it never occurred to me we would potentially extend the school year!

Anyone else channeling straight-up Elsa right now and being like "THE COLD NEVER BOTHERED ME ANYWAY" sashay... slam door... FIERCE!
