Anyone else sick of the snow....

We have had at least 30cm of snow. I work for the ambulance service so no snow days for us. Just come of nights which at one point they had to stack calls due to us taking longer to get to jobs.

I love the snow except when i'm working

We've had a good couple of feet and the schools have been shut all week. The trains aren't running either so DH has had to take a week's holiday. I work from home so I've been the only one not off! Our estate was dug out this afternoon so hopefully we'll get out tomorrow to stock up.

I hope they come up with a better solution for keeping the roads to the school open. It's OK having one odd week off, but if this is the start of a bad winter, they can't keep closing for large chunks!

we have loads and loads of snow and have had all week and i'm really fed up with it now. stuck in with kids most the time as can't push pushchair and he's not a hug fan of the sledge

Totally fed up with it here. Car not moved since Friday, snowed in down the drive.
Managed to get van out and park at top of street but neighbours complained its there, no idea why because they have parking for 4-5 cars and only have 2,
Made enough profit to just about cover rent and electric, nothing else, no wage this week

BBC have report 800-900 business could go under with the cold snap http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-11909952 I don't doubt that at all. Dreading the 20% VAT next month, how many more businesses will that kill?

We've had no post for 2 days - not a big problem but a little sad. It's DD's 17th birthday tomorrow and she only has one card.

If the winter stays as bad they might end up needing to!

I grew up in New England and we had 5 snow days built into the school year (though if we didn't use them we didn't get out earlier, bah) and any above that were added on in the summer. We used to moan if we went over the allocation and had too many snow days!

I wish the schools had been closed here, not enough snow to close but enough ice and White stuff to cause terrifying roads, icy hill of death in my close :-(, thankfully an inset day tomorrow so will be staying home, didn't get above -2 today and should be -3 tomorrow, just wish it could melt away :-(

Feeling that! Plus I work in a school- I hate having to get up early in case I have to make the hour walk- rather than drive. So far the snow hasn't been bad enough, but it might be next week apparently!

No school wants to close- it's a pain for teachers who have to work doubly hard to catch up on the missed curriculum, most of whom also have children themselves. It's about health and safety in schools being much more prominent than in any other work place. Staff don't often live nearby so if they physically can't make it in time for the school to open- that class is without its supervisor. Without the correct amount of staff in the school to adequately supervise the number of children, the school cannot open. Plus in this 'sue everyone' culture, a school has to be particularly careful as they are key targets for litigation. If a child gets hurt because they slip or fall on an icy playground for example, the school could get sued for creating a risky situation.

I certainly know that I am glad we weren't forced to close, but it's still a stress and a bother!

I dug the car out last night, 8 days it was snowed in, eventually got it out but it was a struggle. Hope we don't get anymore now.

No mail since Tuesday, we had about 8" here, its mostly gone from the pavements but very icy. and the main roads are OK but not the side ones. Luckily I can work from home on my laptop but I've got to be in for presentations tomoroow so Southeastern has got today to sort things out......

The main roads around here seem much better now but the minor roads are still really bad with snow and ice.

School re-opened today and as it's a no through road it hasn't been used and it's a nightmare. I walk to work that way and after dropping the girls off at breakfast club at 8.00am I went skidding on my backside - my lunch flying everywhere and a few choice words passing my lips!

After finally managing to get up and compose myself I noticed all the teachers trying to park their cars and in the end just leaving them and hobbling into school. Goodness knows what it will be like at 9.00 when the rest of the kids/cars arrive!!!

I love snow when it's fresh but when it turns to ice it's a nightmare!

Schools were open this morning, so I walked my two along in heavy falling snow. I then got a text at 1:30 saying the school was shutting and could parents come along asap - awful awful weather here in Livingston! The schools are closed agin tomorrow.

DH got on a replacement bus service to Edinburgh (no trains running). The bus took an hour to go the 5 miles to Broxburn so DH asked to be let off and spent the next two hours walking home!

I've had enough of the snow and I never thought I'd say that it is as bad as New England here, but this is just as bad!

Every year I save one week of my precious leave to use in early December so that

1. I can do Christmas shopping in secret (and in peace)
2. I can wrap gifts in secret (and in peace)
3. I can get the house sorted without being interrupted every 10 minutes
4. I can actually sit down one day and have my annual magazine/newspaper reading time - yes, it only happens once a year

Lastly, I chose this week because DD has a music concert on tomorrow morning and she recently moved schools so it is important to me to be there for her. We were issued invitations and everything.

So imagine my horror when I sat down after working hard all morning with a cup of tea at 1 pm, looked out the lounge window and saw my mother with my smiling DD waving at me. Schools are closed and there is no school open in the county tomorrow.

What always irritates me most is that there is only about a foot or so of snow lying about. I know it fell quickly but it's not actually that much. Cananda and countless other countries get a lot more than this and guess what? Business as usual.

So yes, Scottish mum, you have all my sympathies. I'm just glad my DD moved schools in September. Her other one was due for a rebuild and they did a decant to a different town. Result: They were closed for a week for the move, closed the whole of last week and won't open this week at all. I realised I should be counting my blessings when I heard another parent at the dancing school this evening wailing about three weeks of battling for emergency child care.

It's really bad in the central belt today. My brother has been on the M8 for hours, having attempted to leave work early this afternoon.

Well it's stopped snowing - but now it's -12 degrees so it's become a giant ice rink, which is even worse. My brother just text me to say he is home. His one hour drive took him from lunch time until 10.25 pm And he's one of the lucky ones who actually got home tonight!

I walked, last few hundred yards had to hold onto the wall, railings anything I could. I now realise why I had no customers today
Hope we can get the the Meatloaf concert on Saturday.
