Why are you wasting time changing a virus name? Get back to work!I’m an epidemiologist

The media can't change the name of a virus?Doesn't matter if the media and the CDC decide to rename it, everybody's going to continue calling it monkey pox.
Over past years, TG, many groups of people have been hurt by names they have been called by others. Generally responsible societal norms wind up correcting those misdeeds. Not always, there are those that simply don't care, but generally yes. It's a name, who cares?
I could see that, given the way "bird flu" and "swine flu" caused panic and overreactions involving both live animals and their meat. And lets not forget "mad cow disease". It would be a shame if somehow the name "monkeypox" inspired the slaughter of animals that have nothing to do with the spread of the disease among humans.
Yes! Anyone who reads anything outside of these United States and outside of Fox etc, would know that monkeys are being killed en masse in Brazil and other countries because they are mistakenly believed to be the source of propagation of this virus. It's a major animal cruelty and maintenance of an important ecosystem issue.
It first popped up in research monkeys in 1958 so like how is this racist?

Absolutely agree with the poor animals, but really the point is the name was fact based in that it was a monkey disease, there was no malice. The first human case didn't happen for over a decade after monkeys so it's a very strange jump to make. One could probably argue the jump to say the disease name is racist is the most offensive part of the reasoning because there is no reason to conclude naming anything in the 50's to do with humans at the time. To conclude the name is related to humans now is truly a jacked up conclusionYes, the name change not only covers the LGBT community, African regions, and POC, but also the killing of monkeys. In case anyone wants to understand the “why,” here’s a link:
WHO said the decision was made…which aims to “avoid causing offense to any cultural, social, national, regional, professional, or ethnic groups, and minimize any negative impact on trade, travel, tourism or animal welfare.”

BOOOOOOOOO!There's actually another virus that's a combination of two genera of viruses: Rapipoxvirus and Hiphopipoxvirus. Commonly referred to as Two-Pox Shakur.
The Two-Pox Shakur virus was a real game changer. It was discovered by Dr. Dre.BOOOOOOOOO!
You mean my pox joke didn’t go viral?BOOOOOOOOO!

There’s a political answer to this one that we can’t discuss here.I never quite understood how Corona slipped past all these monitors.
