Anyone else out there NOT like Peter Pan?

I don't mean the Disney movie (although I don't like it either). I mean the original Barrie book and the whole concept of Peter Pan in general. I remember reading the Barrie book and thinking Peter was a jerk and Tinkerbell was just a, well, *****. Wendy consistantly got the short end of the stick for having any semblence of maturity. All the characters were whiny, and just the whole concept of men never wanting to grow up irritates the heck outta me. Made me feel like all women were the bad guys (for accepting reality), and all men were the good guys (for denying it).

I'm a horrible cynic, I know, but saints deliver me from a man with a Peter Pan complex.

You're not alone. DH doesn't like Peter Pan and the whole gang too, although he does like the ride!

I read it as a young teenager and really liked it!

The way I saw it, as much fun as the Lost Boys had never growing up, they still longed for a mother to care for them, and tell them what to do. I think it showed the importance of mothers and wives in boys/mens lives. Of course I didn't think that at the time I read it, just now looking back on it!

I was shocked to find out that Peter would kill any lost boy that became to good at fighting and flying, so that he wouldn't have any competition as leader of the lost boys, that was a little Lord of the Flies for my taste!

yup, I never liked it (or the movie either). I was a serious, mature kid so I didn't understand why anyone woudln't want to grow up! Although I'm more of a child at heart now, I still don't like the story or movie.

now I almost regret not liking it because there is all this cute tinkerbell paraphernalia that i'm missing out on!!! haha.

It's so funny that you post this. I was just asking my fiance the other night about why there are so many freaking PP movies when the storyline isn't that interesting to me. I wondered if I was the only one who doesn't give a hoot.

Don't care for it either, don't even like the Disney movie - just doesn't interest me.

And I think Tinkerbelle is quite a brat, myself.

Me. I have never liked it, although I think Tinkerbell is really cute. Not crazy about Pinocchio either.
