especially around Pecos Bills and headed to adventureland around the Mcdonalds french fry cart. couldn't even sit down for fear of being bombed!!! There were little black birds flying all around INSIDE pecos Bill's on Friday
Soooo true.
Our first trip in Dec-beginning of Jan we really didn't notice a bird "problem". We saw a few at MK and saw some flying around at Epcot but they weren't a nuisance (atleast not to us and not that we witnessed with anyone else) and it was kinda neat watching them fly around our heads (not RIGHT above our heads though).
Then my last solo trip late Jan.... wowzers. Big difference in the birds. My two experiences:
Eating at Pecos Bill- the birds are all around the toppings bar grossing me out. I can't even begin to guess which toppings they haven't touched or stood in/etc. So I pass on that- and THAT'S the reason I bought the darn burger there!
Birds all around inside and I have to really guard my food for fear of them grabbing some. I watch out the window where people are getting their food stolen from their table while eating! (At this point I stop wondering why only ONE family is out there eating instead of inside)
Outside I sit on the bench next to the frency fry cart and do a little people watching for a MOMENT. That's all it lasted because there were SO many birds. On the ground, flying around, in the trees above. I knew staying there more than a moment was just asking to get pooped on and I WOULD NOT tolerate that nearly as much as kaabost's husband obviously does. I didn't pay to go to WDW to get pooped on by a bird. But while there watching -I saw SEVERAL people get french fries stolen right out of their hands or the boxes- even very young children. I watch this happening over and over and over- soon as they purchase their fries and turn around to walk away- birds attack them for the fries.
Right as I decide I've overstayed my welcome (after about 5 min) and realize to stay longer would be inviting disaster (aka poop on the head or clothes/etc) I notice another french fry customer who after he purchases his fries- starts passing them around to all the birds. His daughter (about 5yrs old) does the same. The continue on walking- giving all their fries away. Apparently they bought them ONLY to give to the birds?
Annoying. It was annoying to me because I realize that people like that are CONTRIBUTING to the problem of others getting their fries stolen against their wishes.
Second experience this time was at Epcot- at the Mexico cantina (can't remember the name- San something?) and while sitting outside eating my burrito- I notice so many birds around that it's making me uncomfortable. They are under the tables, ON some tables, bird poop everywhere... some people getting their food taken away while they eat so I start guarding my food even better. I drop a piece of tortilla chip on accident and by the time I can look down to see where it dropped -it was gone. How did that happen? So I look and there goes a bird (not a seagull, btw) walking away with the chip. DANG... I'm contributing to the problem.
Look around and there's a man sitting near me deliberately feeding pieces of chips to the birds-even tossing them all around him. Give him a look of disgust and decide my meal is over.
I realize that Disney can't TRULY keep all the birds away and even if they tried then some would throw a big stink about it- but they CAN post signs to not feed the birds and add a sentence about it in the park guides. They sure can. They can also have CMs remind guests not to feed the birds if they see it (but I wouldn't go so far as to say hire people to walk around doing that all day- that would probably raise the prices of tickets, gotta pay those CMs to do that).
I also think it's a bad idea to have food machines for fish since it really feeds the birds. I didn't see any of those on either of my trips though.
