Anyone else not wearing sunscreen?

I did not wear it in April and was so burned it was painful :( That was at the waterpark though. I normally would not wear it to the park.

We always wear it and apply it again over the course of the day. 2 years ago DH was diagnosed with skin cancer on his back, face and arms....he NEVER goes out in the sun because he is so fair but it got him anyways. Now we are always with our sunscreen, even me and I am a dark olive Italian chic that used to bake in the sun 24/7!

I am really bad about putting sunscreen on. I hate the way it feels. But I have been better about it.

We use a lot on our very fair red-head daughter. She burns so easily! :sunny: Poor thing.

My family uses sunblock when we're at WDW mainly because we don't want to risk a major sunburn ruining our vacation. May not be the best reason, but it works for us. :)

My DS10 and DS5 and I use sunscreen at home when we're going to be in the sun for any "considerable" amount of time - swimming, gardening, mowing, etc. However, my DH does NOT and he still get burned even with dark Italian skin. He also has a lot of moles that makes me paranoid, but he rarely uses sunscreen at home.

I also use a daily facial moisturizer that has spf in it. Have you seen those women that look 80 when they're 50 - that isn't for me!!!

I just love the sunscreens from Arbonne International (disclaimer - I am now an Arbonne consultant because I LOVE their products so much). Anyway, they aren't GREASY like so many others are. They seem to absorb into the skin more like a good moisturizer (not one that lays on the surface).

I also use Arbonne's self tanner - I hated even the thought of that before, but now I like taking care of my skin, but still having a nice natural looking tan.

I've also heard that an SPF higher than 30 isn't always a good thing. They have to add too many chemicals to get those incredibly high SPFs. My understanding is that the better option is to use 30 or lower and REAPPLY!!!

Anyway - great thread going here and it's nice that the flames aren't flying.

I think that when you know someone with skin cancer it makes you think differently.

Seeing what a guy at work has gone/is still going through makes me even more willing to wear the sunscreen and cover up - it might be a little more uncomfortable/inconvenient but I don't want to take the risk :)

You are SO right. This is a very important topic to me because I lost my Dad to melanoma. We had planned a huge Disney vacation for Oct. of 2001, but then we was diagnosed with melanoma. He suffered horribly and died the month before our trip. People always think skin cancer is no big deal, but I'm here to tell you it is very deadly and there are very few effective treatments. My Dad only lived 10 months after his diagnosis. I beg you all to be very careful. I have no intention of living my life inside, but I make sure we are all protected as best we can, especially my kids. One blistering burn before the age of 18 greatly increases your risk of developing melanoma.

Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now

I just bought a Lubriderm Lotion with SPF 15, for daily use. It is really light, absorbs well and smells ok. At Disney, I would probably wear this and something else. For both us and the kids this past May we wore the Coppertone Sport that is a spray, like an aeresol. It is easy to use and didn't leave us feeling sticky. It does have that coppertone smell, but I kind of like it. No one got burned this trip. I wouldn't really go without it at Disney.
