Anyone else not like horror movies/haunted houses?

I've seen a few horror movies, but usually avoid them. I mostly stick to the lighter Disney fare - Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, that sort of thing.

I haven't been in a haunted house attraction in years, but DH has a friend who works in one.

Hate them. When I was a teenager in the early 80’s I watched Texas Chainsaw Massacre etc but stopped by the time I was 18.

In 2017 my husband and I went to Universal and did the Walking Dead experience which scared me so much at 47yo I was screaming my head off (the man walking behind us thought I added to his experience Lol) - my husband and 14yo son are now addicted to Walking Dead, 19yo daughter loves watching scary movies but our 17yo son is like me, no go.

It's strange. I watched the first 3-4(?) seasons of TWD, but horror movies? Nope 🙅‍♂️.

Nope not a fan either. I have been to Halloween horror nights a few times when I was in my 20s and didn’t like it even then. I’m taking my daughter and a couple of her friends next week to HHN as they are all 16 and finally old enough to I feel without being totally traumatized. They are very excited, we will see how the feel at the end of the night. My husband and I will stay at city walk and go for dinner and a movie. I really want to see the Conclave movie and I hope they screen it on Thursday night as that the night they go to HHN, it officially opens on Friday.

There are only 2 horror movies that left such an impression on me and have pretty much steered me away from the genre. 1979 Salem's Lot and Prince of Darkness.

I say that as I just watched the 2024 Salem's Lot on Max released a couple of weeks ago; I actually watched it 3X since it was that good. It was sort of a way to face my childhood fear head-on.

Love both. Especially a fan of supernatural horrors like Insidious, and I go to Frightfest at Six Flags once a year for the haunted mazes.

Don't like either. It's weird because I like true crime, but not horror movies or haunted houses or anything like that. I don't like scary Halloween. Give me cute ghosts and pumpkins etc.

I walked out of the Ziegfeld playing Jurassic Park when it was first out. The theater had SurroundSound and I couldn’t take the slow but steady audio of an approaching Tyrannosaurus rex (or whatever they call it now) . Told the man, he said “Uh huh, see you later “ and remained glued to his chair 😂. Took an additional 10 odd years for me to watch it in full on a small screen.

I like some horror movies. I haven't been to a haunted house since I was kid and it was a kid centered one. Don't know that I would go to one on my own but might go to one with someone else but that is unlikely.

I used to love it!! Then I had a kid and my dad died -- anything dark is a HARD NO for me.

I love them! We went on a Salem, Lizzy Borden and Conjuring house trip two years ago. We ended up seeing The Cure at the same time. Going to the "real" Conjuring house was a bunch of fun!!

Do not like them. I saw the movie Amityville Horror in high school and did not sleep well for weeks. Carrie movie also freaked me out for a long time.

While I don't enjoy it as much as I did when I was a teen and early 20-something, I still like the horror movie genre. That being said, I have my dislikes. Excessive gore and jump scares aren't my thing. They're just cheap tricks. I do like the ones that are creepy, that have a story that evolves that really gets into your mind, ones that involve plausible impossibilities, and I don't mind scary looking imagery and main figures. Some of the best are stories rooted in religious lore, unexplained mysteries, urban legends, etc.

I HATE haunted houses. At some point, when I was really young, we went to a mall that had a haunted house inside around Halloween. It looked cool and was supposedly safe for all ages. There was just one part that I could see from the outside that really creeped me out. Still, I remember tracking this one figure and thinking we'd avoid it if we timed it just right. It was a disaster. I screamed and cried the entire way through. After we moved, I remember the Haunted Castle at Great Adventure catching fire and killing eight kids. It made me think about the one I went to and how awful it would have been to be trapped in there with a fire. That fear was just compounded when the Haunted Mansion in Long Branch, NJ burned (no deaths). The creepy commercials for that place were enough to keep me away even when it was fully operational. When I lived in FL, my friends used to try and get me to go to Halloween Horror Nights...HARD NO! My older one tried a haunted house with some friends several years ago and was a crying mess. So, she must get it from me.
