Anyone else not like horror movies/haunted houses?

I hate horror movies. I like the “family” friendly ones like beetlejuice but that’s not really a horror movie. My DH and my older kids love them and they have nights every now and then where they stay up late and watch one together. I don’t like haunted houses either. I’m very jumpy and easy to scare (DH and kids are constantly unintentionally scaring me and making me jump by just standing there or walking near me unannounced lol) plus I had a bad experience as a teenager when an actor with a chainsaw at a haunted house picked me up and threw me over his shoulder and ran backstage. Terrified me. They could never get away with doing that nowadays lol

I don't really like horror movies, which is to say the gory, slasher type thing. I like old-style horror, like the classic Universal Monsters or thriller type movies though. I don't mind haunted houses, though generally I am more into cool special effects and set design than I am the jump-scares. I am definitely more of a Haunted Mansion type person!

I HATE haunted houses. At some point, when I was really young, we went to a mall that had a haunted house inside around Halloween. It looked cool and was supposedly safe for all ages. There was just one part that I could see from the outside that really creeped me out. Still, I remember tracking this one figure and thinking we'd avoid it if we timed it just right. It was a disaster. I screamed and cried the entire way through. After we moved, I remember the Haunted Castle at Great Adventure catching fire and killing eight kids. It made me think about the one I went to and how awful it would have been to be trapped in there with a fire. That fear was just compounded when the Haunted Mansion in Long Branch, NJ burned (no deaths). The creepy commercials for that place were enough to keep me away even when it was fully operational. When I lived in FL, my friends used to try and get me to go to Halloween Horror Nights...HARD NO! My older one tried a haunted house with some friends several years ago and was a crying mess. So, she must get it from me.

That reminds me of a haunted house I went to in a nearby town about 12 years or so ago with some coworkers. It was run by a volunteer fire department. A couple of years after we went, the state fire marshal shut down the haunted house due to numerous safety violations. I found an article where the fire marshal stated: "I now have a fire department, who is there for the public's safety, who is putting people's lives in danger." It has never opened back up to my knowledge.

To answer the original question, I am really not a fan of horror movies or haunted houses.

I dislike horror movies, especially ones with lots of gore. I might just be really sensitive but that sort of stuff stays in my brain and makes me miserable. Haunted houses are also not my favorite thing.

Life is scary enough.

I have never been a fan of the jump scare style horror movies.

But I have been attending most of the Regal Mystery Movies. In the beginning Regal did not let you know if the movie might be Horror, Comedy, Drama, etc. After lots of complaints about the Horror movies being sprung on people, Regal now lets you know if is going to be a Horror movie.

In the end I have seen several Horror movies as a result, most I have actually enjoyed because they were not jump scare style movies.
