I do not like pot lucks at all. Whenever we go to one I make my mom make her macaroni and cheese and that's all I eat. Just not knowing who made it and what their kitchen looks like and stuff, it's all very creepy to me. Anyone else share this weird "fear" with me?

I do, but I usually know who I'm eating with.

I did have one sister in law that I "invited" her to come to my house and cook together, just because I knew what her kitchen looked like. I had more bowls, etc, anyway so she didn't mind at all.

I LOVE pot lucks. That said, I generally know exactly who I am eating with and how they cook and how clean their houses are etc. I wouldnt' feel very comfortable eating dishes cooked by folks I didnt' know at all.....

I am the same way when it comes to them! I am very careful about what I eat! You just never know today! :goodvibes But I do like Pot Lucks, just have to be careful.

I am starting to dread pot lucks, not because of the cleanlness of who cooked it, but because my DD has food allergies and I need to know what is in everything before we can eat it. It is such a pain to hunt things down when there is no food wrapper around. Even if I know what brand it is, I am mostly ok, but it is so much work to bug people and ask "who made this? Is ther milk in it?" The one time I don't ask, then it is hidden in there somehow. Most of the time I just don't eat. It is so tempting to be around all this food I want to eat, but know I can't. At home I just don't have it around.

I don't like them just because I never know what to take.

Now that I think about it, I never thought about who made the food and what their kitchens look like. Now that is another reason I won't do pot lucks.

I avoid larger ones, like at school or church events. I have food allergies & it is just too much trouble to try to figure out if a dish is safe. Feel kind of funny going around asking "did you cook this & what did you put in it?" Pot Luck Nazis are no fun.

Yum... pot lucks...

(to answer your question, the only ones we attend are church or family and I know everyone at both so I'm not worried)

We have "food day" at my job all the time...after taking a piece of cake that was made at a co-worker's house and finding tons and tons of cat hair just in 1 bite, I now do not partake in food day!

No, I try to steer clear of other people's food whenever possible.

I don't like potlucks. I always worry about food safety, cleanliness etc...

When I go to something like a shower and I bring a dessert, I always put the recipe card beside it, so that people with allergies can read it and know if they can eat it or not. (sometimes the ladies will steal the card to copy the recipe though!!!-you see all these women writing the recipe on a napkin! :rotfl: )

I hate nuts. Hate them. They make me nauseous. I am not allergic though. So I am always checking out the desserts for nuts. I would hate to bite into a yummy looking brownie and hit a nut-yuck!!!

I just dislike them, I can't imagine being allergic to nuts and biting into one and then having to worry about having a reaction.

Ehh, I don't mind pot lucks, as long as there's lots of pasta, and my mom brings some dish that I like. We had pot luck dinners every year for Latin Honor Society in high school. I'm a carboholic, and there were always loads of pasta dishes so I was fine. Yeah, it's kind of gross, but it's no worse than eating the school food. You can't see where that's cooked either.

I will not eat someone elses food. But I do work with a lot of guys and their idea of pot luck is something the supermarket cooked up -like fried chicken. Now that I will eat.

Wow, I used to love the pot lucks where I taught. :) My fellow teachers brought such yummy things. :goodvibes You guys are grossing me out. ;)

I like pot lucks..but if I cannot identify it, I don't eat it.

I tend to think that they are fun and that people do not necessarily make dishes from whatever junk is left in their kitchen.

When in doubt, I ask..and if the function is too large and the creator cannot be id'd....I skip.
